I came here for a conference after-party, and there’s a pretty cool vibe here. There was a stage for a live band, though the music was way too freaking loud at that event. Great sound setup, at any rate. There was also a presentation projecting onto one of the walls. Definitely scoping out this place for one of the future special events that I plan. Love that Mezzanine is spacious and lives up to its name with the upstairs mezzanine level!

Right from the start I got really good service. I called ahead to arrange seating for the DMX concert(general admission is normally standing only). The manager emailed me back, and had a table with high chairs arranged before we arrived. They only make these arrangements under special circumstances but if you’re in need it’s a marvelous accommodation., especially for a dance club. The atmosphere is casual but extremely clean and trendy. The DJ is off hook and the bartenders are friendly. Be prepared to leave your id & cc if you want to run a tab. The cups are small & the prices are on the upper end. There’s an upstairs for VIP& bottle service. I’d definitely come back if someone else on my must see list performs here. Oh, it’s only two blocks from Powell St bart on the 5th Ave/Nordstrom side. There’s no hot food, but there are snacks at the coat check, averaging $ 2 for chips or candy bars.

I’ve been here twice. Once to see Pomo last year and just last friday to see Kaytranada. I’ll just talk about last Friday in this review. Doors opened at 9pm, first opener(River Tiber) went on at around 10:30pm followed by Lou Phelps at around 11:30pm. Finally, Kaytranada went on at about 12:30am and went until nearly 2am. The first thing that I would recommend is not to come until 10pm unless you need a lot of pregaming time because otherwise you will be standing for a LONGTIME. There are no chairs on the first floor, just standing room. If you head upstairs there is a nice balcony with tons of nice booths… except the booths are reserved for people who pay to sit in them and staff will not let you sit on them even when the booth’s party is not there yet. Basically there is no where to sit unless you pay for it so just expect that. Bartenders are friendly, ambience is pretty nice although the layout of the place is a little weird with a big column almost right in front of the stage(you’ll be safer on the right side of the floor if you’re facing the stage). The music mixing/engineering station is located in the back of the venue taking part of the dance floor which is kind of weird but the venue is somewhat small so there probably isn’t a better place to put it. It’s fine for smaller events but be aware that if you are seeing a big name and it sells out it will be very crowded. I kinda wish that they brought out the acts earlier so you don’t have to be out so late but maybe i’m just getting old haha. In my defense I have to drive all the way back to Walnut Creek afterwards: P

I love this venue, they always book good acts and the décor is very chill. Bartender service is top notch and the bathroom is huge and is usually pretty clean.

Came here to enjoy some Prince music with friends. As usual Prince music attracts a vast array of characters who just wanna dance. So pretty fun atmosphere. Really wish there was seating. The only seating area are booths for bottle service starting at $ 500…really??? The line for bathrooms was amazing quick each time we went given that the venue was at capacity. Drinks are ok. Sound system sounds way better downstairs than upstairs. Screens are all over the place so you can see what’s happening on stage from pretty much any vantage point. Doors opened promptly and the line moved pretty quick. Not a bad experience but sure would have liked to sit down.

I saw Young Fathers here. It was a good show. The venue could use some better alcohol choices. The bartender was on his phone all night.

This is the location of one of the greatest memories of my life. So I was here to watch TOKiMonsta perform, and boy we were lucky enough to get front row parking. We pre-gamed hard core on a bottle of gin in the car, and came in feeling loopy AF. The bouncers let us in, and everything slowly spiraled out of control. Long story short, one of my best friends ended up blacking out, kicked out for pushing someone, flipped upside down and thrown at a trash can for attempting to get back in, and the bouncers were nice enough to let us back in(except for him of course LMAO). Pleasant experience for good ‘ol Mezzanine!

It seems people expect a lot for a little coming to Mezzanine. The tickets are extremely reasonable for the experience. It’s a casual venue with little seating except for bottle service tables. They offer a coat check. The door girls are friendly, and the bartenders are are highly efficient in making good drinks and getting the line moving. The sound system is AWESOME too! The bass goes BOOM here! I like the crowd here also. I would attribute the caliber of people to the quality bands/musicians who play here. There were two more music performances in addition to the headliner Quantic. Xenia Rubios and La Gente were excellent additions. I’m a fan now too! I didn’t expect that Quantic wasn’t going on until almost 12:30. So expect to stay late if you want to see your headliner. I like the casual smaller atmosphere here. It’s a more intimate experience to see the performers. The stage is in the farther corner, but they have a view on a big screen on the big wall too although not the clearest video. It all looks the same after a few drinks! Yes, the pillar… That darned 18″ diameter pillar obstructing a tiny percentage of the view to the stage is really no big deal if you just move. The drinks are even reasonably priced here. $ 9 for well drinks and $ 3 for a bottle of water is damn good deal for a club/live music venue in the city. There are a sufficient amount of stalls, there wasn’t a ridiculous line in the ladies room. People are chill here. It’s not the typical pretentious club ambiance. I’d most definitely return to see some more talented musicians!

All around terrible venue. Large pole blocking view of stage. Bartender charged my friend $ 5 for ear plugs when they are free at coat check. Bands start super late, usually around midnight. I came here to see Alan Braxe and he didn’t go on till 1am. I was waiting in line at coatcheck after a weekday show when the show ended(12:45am) a bouncer came by and grabbed my beer. He said shows over go home. Uh dude, I’m in line at coatcheck for a reason. And why are you grabbing peoples drinks, we are still inside and it’s not even 1am. Just have a trash can by the door on the way out. Multiple bouncers kept yelling at people in line to go home when they are just waiting for the slow coat check. This place sucks, but they don’t care. They know you will come if you want to see an artist that’s performing there.

Cozy small venue | Bathrooms are good | Those fog machines though… I went to see Seven Lions here on a Thursday night. I kinda like the location, it’s a little tucked away so it’s not too crazy. Right across the street is a hotel. Park at the large parking garage Fifth and Mission. It’s only a couple blocks away. Bathrooms are not bad at all! That’s something I always look for at venues because I hate having to wait in long lines. There were 3 bars when I went. Two downstairs and one in the VIP upstairs. Looks really nice. It’s a cozy small place, but I can’t believe how packed it can get! I hate the fog machines. It kinda smells :(We stood up at the front so we were blasted with it, haha. Overall, I had a good time and was really close to the artist.

What a terrible venue for live music. Jess Glynne was great but the venue itself is appalling. The lights don’t seem to illuminate the stage, so the performers perform mostly in the dark. The upstairs area could offer a good view of the stage but the large bouncer decided to stand at the top of the stairs leaning over the balcony so he blocked most people’s view. If you think bottle service might get you a better view, think again because it will actually be worse. Might be OK as a club but as a live music menu I will not go back.

You feel like you are going to a concert in a warehouse; there are large pillars in the middle of the room(though it does give you something to lean against if you get tired). Parking and sound system were meh. It wasn’t a bad venue, but it wasn’t a good one either. I would come here if there was a band I really wanted to see, but not for a band I’m just wanting to check out.

Came here 12/18/2015 for Baauer & Djemba Djemba Security guys were constantly walking around the dance floor, but I’m no trouble-maker so I had no problem. ;P They were pretty strict about asking glovers to put away gloves. There was plenty of floor space, but the set up is kind of weird. The lights and the dj stage is off in the corner and there’s a projector that is perpendicular to the stage and that’s where the visuals are at. There’s a balcony with one stairwell access that leads you to a very small-sized bottle service area. Whoever was in charge of lighting that night went a little too crazy!!! The strobe lights went off too much and all other accent lights were just flying everywhere in the room.

You come here for the music! And the live music can only be the best that it can be with a good sound system, and I would say that Mezzanine has a pretty good one. They host a lot of great shows by great artists. I’ve seen Gramatik and Kiasmos here — both on Wednesdays! Go hard while you’re young ;), and I might swing by here on NYE for Chet Faker with Dam-Funk and Marcus Marr. Both times tickets were in the $ 20 – 25 range, and $ 30 at the door. $ 9 for mixed drinks(well/house alcohol) and $ 6 for a beer — a bit on the pricey side, I think. I like that they have a bar both at the back near the entrance, and also at the front by the stage. And it obviously wouldn’t be called Mezzanine without a mezzanine level! There’s an outside smoking area in the very back as well with some seating — nice to get some… air! No ins-and-outs!

Had a great time here on Friday. Only downside was ALL of the people working the door, the person asking if you’re on the list, the two guards checking ID’s, the ticket giver and the ticket taker. You’d think they’d all be happy to have you there spending $ 20 to get in and $ 30 for a few beers. Instead of «welcome in», I got, «where’s your ID» and«tell me about who you’re paying for when I see your cash.» Being a cunt goes a long way when your dealing with assholes, but being an asshole to your customers is not a clever business strategy. I’m sure I’ll come again when my friends want the burner party, but ill remember it’s just as easy to spend my dough anywhere else and skip the douche staff through the check in process.

Awesome venue. A bit on the small side, but holds an intimate connection between the artist and audience. Bouncers and folks checking you in are nice, some even crack jokes while you’re waiting. Drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders aren’t rude. The women’s bathroom isn’t too horrendous, which is always nice lol Buuut, parking and the venue location is pretty sketchy. my boyfriend and I have seen some crrrazy stuff going down within a 2 block radius of this place. I live out of town in the burbs, so you could imagine my reaction lol Used to come here a lot to catch roots/island reggae shows. In fact, this is the place where I met my boyfriend. As much as Mezzanine holds a special place in my heart, we haven’t come back in some time to see a show. The crowd’s become too rowdy and ridiculously packed and the ticket prices have shot up. It was a different scene back when J Boog, The Green, and Katchafire were still up and coming artists(in the mainland anyways). Back then(and it wasn’t even that long ago), you had plenty elbow room. Now you and whoever you go there with are packed in that thing like sardines, leaving with traces of sweat and spilled drinks from folks around you lol And I ssssswear, the last few times we went we always got stuck behind the TALLEST person or the smelliest person there. Never fails lol But that’s not the venue’s fault. It just so happens that the success of some of my favorite artists I love to get down to, have flourished. Anyways, thanks for all the memories Mezzanine(;

I was lucky enough to be one of the couple hundred people here for the sold out Lido and Brasstracks show here on Saturday. It’s definitely been awhile since I’ve been to a show in a smaller venue, so it definitely was a nice change of scenery. Parking is pretty much what you would expect, as it is in DTSF. From reading other Unilocal reviews, I knew there were affordable parking lots nearby but we got lucky and found free street parking maybe a block or two away from the venue. The line moved quickly when we arrived at ~10pm, which is nice since it’s SF and it does get chilly outside. We quickly made a beeline to the bathroom, which actually was fairly clean and well stocked for a concert venue restroom. It was a relief knowing that both times I went the restroom it was still clean and not a hot mess like some other places I’ve been to. I believe the drinks were standard pricing, my friends got a Corona($ 6) and a Redbull Vodka($ 12). Thought it was awesome that even if the venue wasn’t that large there were 3 bars available: one near the entrance, one near the stage, and also one upstairs. Sound + lighting were great as well, although I did have some trouble hearing out of my right ear well into the next day still. Might be my fault for being so close to the front though: X Efficient line management, clean restrooms, awesome light + sound, and a front row spot for Lido and Brasstracks makes this place A-OK in my book!

I went to see Ott last night, who was fantastic, as were all the opening artists, but the venue sucks. Usually when I see Psychedelic artists, people are there to hear the music and dance, but this place is an over crowded meat market. Most people seemed uninterested in who was performing and only wanted to have virtual sex on the floor. It was not the crowd I was expecting. I’m willing to bet less than a 1⁄3 of the audience had any idea who Ott was, they were just out at the«club» to get laid. Ott’s first words when he got on stage was«wow I feel like I’m going to get pregnant just being here.» I tried dancing and enjoying the music, but the place was so crowded I couldn’t move. If I found a small space to dance, people would push me out of the way and grind on each other making me feel like a dirty old pervert if I continued dancing. There is nowhere to sit, unless you drop $ 250 for seats with no view, or $ 500 to see the stage. I saw two people literally carried out because they were to mucked up on God only knows what. It’s a shame that a horrible venue like this could turn such amazing music into a bad night out.

Great line ups. Nice space, two levels so if you’re feeling claustrophobic you can go upstairs Shows start super late which especially sucks on a weeknight if you’re not from SF as the shows can go till 2am, huge bummer as I often have to leave early. They stopped having a minimum on card, which is nice!

This is my least favorite concert venue in the Bay Area. It’s located in an incredibly seedy area of SOMA, below Mission in an alley b/t 5th and 6th. Parking is dicey. Do not leave anything in your car or else it may be broken into. This location makes the Warfield seem like Pacific Heights. Unlike the neighborhood, however, the venue is decent enough inside. The room is kind of oddly shaped and there’s a large pillar in the middle of the room that blocks some sight lines. I did not notice that the staff was more surly than any other nightclub in the City, and the bartender was pleasant enough. BEWARETHATTHEHEADLINERMAYSTARTATMIDNIGHT. Although the tickets state that doors open at 9PM, headliners apparently do not start until midnight. This has been my experience with shows at this venue. Thus, if you arrive at 9PM, you will effectively be held hostage for 3 hours. I suspect this is a ploy to generate bar sales. I understand that clubs make money from the bar and not ticket sales, but this approach is extreme. Because the show starts so late, you can largely forget about public transportation(BART stops running at midnight).

Very disappointed after years of supporting this venue! We bought tickets for Peaches some time ago with an 8PM start time. Normally this would mean doors at 7, DJ at 8, opener at 9, show at 10. So public transport is an option. Got a notification a few days ago moving the time to 9PM, so no problem? Well, yes, problem. Now 9PM means doors and after two hours of a lackluster(at best — I’m being kind with«lackluster») DJ, no sign of the opener. We asked — «opener soon, Peaches at 12:05». So no chance of seeing the show as public transport stops around 12:30. No offer of a refund, no sympathy from the staff. We’ve supported Mezzanine for more than 10 years and Peaches for almost as long. This level of complete disregard for fans is astonishing. Not inclined to look to Mezzanine for shows or support Peaches in the future. Don’t bother unless you live in the City and don’t mind being treated badly. Artists beware! If you are booked here, this type of cavalier attitude is just going to irritate your fans and lose supporter.

No ins and outs. No seating unless you pay for bottle service. $ 4 bottle of water if you get thirsty for something other than overpriced booze or can’t drink. I’m recovering from brain surgery and wanted to see a concert. Being disabled, and needing to sit for a few minutes I was offered a seat in the back alley/smoking area. Yeah, smoke isn’t good for anybody much less a person who recently had their skull sawed into. I would have gladly paid for a seat, and there were many available that they could have given me… But my bottles of water didn’t qualify me for seating reserved strictly for heavy alcohol consumption by groups of wealthy tech people.

An authentic small concert venue. Tucked away in Mint Plaza, not too far from skid row-6th Street is Mezzanine. You can enter from 6th Street, but I suggest walking in from Mission Street to avoid some of the funkiness. From Mission Street you will walk by the Old Mint(one of two in SF) built in the 1850s. There’s a tiny parking lot nearby but fills up quickly. I recommend parking a block away in the Mission Parking lot at 5th Street. It was $ 2.50 and hour for the evening, well lighted and closes at 2:30AM. Besides beautiful historical architecture there is great music to be heard. Mezzanine hosts some of the best up and coming artists from all genres of music. They have an amazing sound system and what I can guess is some good sound board guys to make it all work. Light shows and visuals are moody and trippy. The DJs make me happy with their selection every time. They don’t mess around and know their stuff. The actual mezzanine part looks like the only place where you can sit. VIP booths are located up there too. The view is decent but most people end up standing against the railing so there’s no way you can sit down and be a lazy butt and watch the show. The staff here is super mellow. No tude here! They get bonus points for being clean and not having that«club smell» of Pine Sol and dankness. Even their big women’s bathroom is clean and has a constant attendant monitoring it! Lastly, you can sign up for email updates to find out who’s touring. There are so many good shows coming up! Sadly, it looks like I’m gonna miss Peache’s Rub Tour!

The biggest complaint with Mezzanine is the crowd of people it attracts. Whereas other clubs have a sense of cohesion and direction in the atmosphere, Mezzanine feels as though little bits of many scenes were taken and taped together. This filters down into the audience, which often feels disconnected and directionless. There are the frat kids clutching 24 ounce PBRs, the night club scene dressed looking to be seen, and the token hippie you can find solely by scent who is just trying to be friends with everyone. It also feels as though there are constant traffic channels of everyone moving to somewhere else in the club. It may be a symptom of the existential angst in our current generation and the general discontent with one’s current surroundings that results in this need to move to where the scene may be better. In any case, sometimes it is better to grab onto the end of the train than always be moving out of its way. On the drink scene we have large PBRs at $ 9 a piece and mixed drinks served in plastic cups. The plastic cups invariably end up on the floor and cover most of the venue by the end of the night, providing a nice cushion to dance on. On the positive side, they do bring in some great talent, the sound is good, and people generally have a good time in their own way. Interactions with the bouncers and staff have always been friendly. While it wouldn’t be a first choice of clubs if there was something else going on that night, it will be a place I end up coming back to.

Came in to see J Boog on a Wednesday night, great time out relaxed vibe and the crowd was live. Downfall is its a small spot with limited seating, well there was no seating except for VIP that’s located upstairs. It’s real intimate and they hold many concerts here with a great website to search for your favorite performers. It’s by union square so you can grab a quick bite before enjoying great music. I will definitely come back but I’ll pay extra for the VIP seating.

As far as a venue goes, it’s more functional than stylish. I guess that describes about half the EDM clubs in San Francisco. Either way, you’re not here because the venue is awesome, you’re here because someone you wanted to see rolled through here. Well, Mezzanine draws enough big names to be relevant(hello Knife Party!), but also draws other artists that you might not know about(mmm Kill Paris)…it’s a nice mix. Sound system is underrated, although I’m not about to rave about it. I do like the crowd though, it’s definitely not full of dumbass idiots that are just there for the sole purpose of doing drugs… they actually are there FOR the music. But damn… that POLEINTHEMIDDLEOFTHEDANCEFLOOR. Can someone please get rid of it?

I don’t understand why this place isn’t rated higher?! Seriously!!! The bouncers are homies for sure. They don’t hold up the line like other places and they’re super nice! First off, tickets to shows here are generally start off SUPERCHEAP(I’ve only paid $ 20 at most). I’ve come here twice — once for Kygo in October 2014 and Klingande March 2015. Both experiences were amazing! It’s a small-medium sized venue, but I feel like wherever you stand, you’ll have a great view of the performer. I found out about this place from APE Concert email updates! This venue always has amazing artists coming in. Both times were great experiences! There are 2 main bars — one upstairs to the right of the venue and one upstairs to the left of when you enter the venue. The set up is pretty legit. The upstairs is a good place to socialize if you’re tryna have some conversations with your friends. ALSO, the security at Mezzanine are cool! At the Klingande show I went to, Klingande allowed some of the audience to come up on stage and usually that’s almost never allowed/they would stop before you can do that! Sooo chill! =] Apparently this place is open all week long??? They made a second show for Klingande(onna Tuesday) and the first was on a Sunday. TOTALLY worth going to even though most people have work the next day! Finally, shout out to Rosie the bartender. I’ve just had the best Toyko Ice Tea of my life for $ 12. The best I’ve evaaaa had.

Does losing your phone validate that you had a great night? I think so! I lost my phone here at the night of Knife Party… on a Wednesday. Yes. What was I thinking going on a Wednesday? I don’t know either. Living life on the edge. Staff was friendly, lines were efficient. Boom 5 minutes you are in. Mind you that his venue is extremely small, no wonder it sold out quick. It was nothing like theatre view but more a concert/club scenery where theres a big(in this case small) dance floor and you can roam wherever. Sound system was great, loud enough to bust my eardrums. Drinks were at a reasonable price. Around $ 10 – 11 per shot or depending on what you are drinking. The location of is a bit off since it is an alley and the highest point of concave down street(I hope that makes sense.) Parking can be difficult since it is really close to the Powell Bart Station(i.e. downtown SF).
