I’m working in SF for a few weeks just up the street from Meshi Sushi. Walking around the neighborhood looking at restaurants in the area for lunch I came across Meshi Sushi and went in to give it a try. The décor is interesting and inviting. I was greeted by Jessica who is very nice and friendly. They play good music. I ordered the lunch Bento box with teriyaki salmon, a roll and tempura veggies. The box also came with Meso soup, white rice and dipping sauces. Very good filling meal. Yesterday was my 3rd lunch there. Going back again today. Many interesting items on the menu. I order different items each meal except the teriyaki salmon which is sooo good I have it every time. My new favorite Japanese restaurant in the City.

Good place, good food, good deal and good service! Lots of variety and sashimi was very fresh. A comfy and spacious place to catch up dinner with friends, we love it!

Great Japanese Chef at the sushi bar! good quality and cheap price, the rolls were delicious too, satisfied my craving. Food came late when it gets busy, but still acceptable waiting time. My Favourite food here was uni sushi, best of all. Overall great inhouse experience and service.

Do all of you a solid, sit at the bar, talk to Tomo-san. He knows what’s good and let’s you know which fish just came in and is freshest. I tend to go for the hamachi and Walu(butterfish) sashimi. The Walu, especially, melts in you mouth. Also, I on occasion I tried the house marinated Ikura and Saba which is pretty good. I came here for lunch once, it was pretty hot and I ordered some sashimi and a cold soba, pretty good deal for lunch.

So disappointed at this place. I got the beef udon for lunch and it was probably the worst I have ever had. The beef udon consisted of frozen sliced beef, cabbage, corn and small mushroom slices in an extremely salty soy based broth. The server had to give me hot water to delude my broth because it was so overly salty. It costed around $ 9 which is fairly cheap, but I honestly would pay more for a better bowl of udon. Service was good, but I really won’t be coming back because the food was so bad and cheap.

It was a great pleasure to have a dinner here. Me and my friends ordered couple of rolls, cold sake and some special sashimi. Salmon snow roll was amazing. And also, this special sashimi made my day. The Japanese chef made this which is perfect. The price is way more reasonable than the other restaurants. The environment was good and also the service. Great pleasure!!!

I had the vegetable ramen and didn’t like broth but the noddles were good. The service was not good at all. They couldn’t provide us with straws and soy sauce. When we asked for pepper it was also empty. Didn’t have much expectations but at least it made me and my friends full.

Damn my bento box was straight sh! t. Three items for $ 12.95 is a good deal… but not when the food is horrible. The three items I ordered were shrimp tempura, tonkatsu, and short ribs. I’ll start with the tempura. Three shrimps… all stuck as one tempura piece. WTF. I’ve never seen any restaurant do this before. It’s just disrespectful! Even after I ripped the shrimps into individual pieces, there was too much batter on it. On top of that, the batter was nasty too. The tonkatsu was 40% meat, 30% fat, and 30% panko. Horrible. The short rib was way too salty, and every bite was a mushy combination of fat and meat. I couldn’t finish it. I also ordered the Lion King roll, and that was just ok. One piece had something hard in it, but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I honestly can’t figure out why this place is getting such great ratings. It’s just another crappy Chinese-owned Japanese restaurant, and you can tell by the quality of the food.

HOL’UP. A(lunch) bento box for $ 8.95?! Deal of the century right here. The bento box comes with your choice of 3 main dishes, miso soup, and rice. Basically hella food. Anyway, this place has an interesting choice of décor, but the chairs are super comfy so I won’t judge too much haha. The service is polite, although I think the kitchen takes awhile during lunch service. Their music playlist is soo, umm., eclectic? Haha. I came in once and Mariah Carey’s «all I want for Christmas» came on, followed by Coldplay’s «the scientist,» then Nelly’s «hot in hurrr» LMAO the playlist is just all over the place that I’m convinced it’s one of the worker’s iPods from 2005. Aside from that, a great deal on lunch in the sunset for sure!

This is my 4th time coming in 2 weeks. Happy to have this place in the neighborhood! The staff is very polite– service is prompt and the menu has a good selection. I love my bento boxes and they have a nice variety of options at a fair price. Veggie tempura has sweet potato, eggplant, onion ring, broccoli, shitake mushroom cap and Japanese squash. yummy and crisp. Miso is good and served when you sit. The fish is fresh(I love sashimi) and the grilled oysters are yummy. Also– 5 stars for cleanliness. If I could make any suggestions it would be to maybe change the music and turn the volume down a bit– an easy fix and not worth knocking a star off. I will venture out and try some new items next visit

Who wants to listen to pop music and hip hop in a sushi restaurant? Maybe someone, but not me. The sushi was so-so. Most of the selections on the menu had ingredients like mayonnaise and imitation crab. Not a lot of traditional choices. The herring nigiri was exceptional. The miso soup and cucumber salad are very good. Service was good. Only one Japanese beer to choose from.

Wow. There are plenty of options in the area for Japanese food. This place is hands down the best deal. The lunch bento box is above average quality at this price point. But what sets it apart is quantity: three items, plus soup and salad. If it were half the amount of food, it would warrant a high rating. At this level, it is not clear how they make money. Service is fine. Décor is on par with the neighborhood — not a date night place to impress someone, but not embarrassing either. Highly recommended.

The imitation crab on most of their sushi is too salty. They should reconsider their recipe for that. Their sushi’s just ok, maybe because i couldn’t taste the fish and other stuff in it. The tempura is ok though.

Was looking forward to trying this place after reading a few reviews but came away disappointed to say the least. Had the New York Combo lunch, special«G» which was pretty much the same price as a bento lunch down at Ebisu but this was far inferior and I won’t be back here. The Ebi was either bad or, well, it had to be bad because I literally had to spit it out. Hope I don’t get sick from it. The Maguro had that frozen too long flavor. The fresh crab on the Cali roll gave me hope but too much mayo or something. Even the sticky rice in the nigiri was just off. Bummer. Place looks great inside which is a shame that the good should be so poor.

Welcome to the ‘hood, Meshi! You’re going to fit in well :) With so many delicious dining options(including sushi) in the Inner Sunset, it can be risky to stray off the beaten path, but we braved the storm and were rewarded for our decision. You will be too! 1) The staff is so, so friendly! They offered to take our coats, noted out names and used them during service and brought us a few bottles of sake on the house. 2) The staff is very knowledgeable! The owner is the sushi chef and he’s been in the business for a long time. As we understood it, this is his second location. He had great recommendations based on our likes and turned us on to some fish that we’ll be sure to order whenever it’s offered. 3) The fish is delicious! We enjoyed every single thing we tried. I appreciate the fact that they don’t go overboard with the sauces. I want to taste the fish, people! 4) The menu is varied and creative. They have a little bit of everything without having too much(I hate reading through 55 different roles). I strongly encourage that you go in and give them a try. Tell Peter we sent you ;)

Food is so so. Place seemed new. Chinese owned Japanese restaurant. We ordered the 32 piece sashimi plate and it was not impressive $ 42. What caused the two star rating was when we ordered a recommended dish of pan fried sea bass by our waitress, the kitchen gave us some other kind of fish thinking we could not tell the difference. When we complained, the waitress said the kitchen ran out of sea bass… What… that’s cheating, sea bass is expensive. Then she said the owner would discount this item. He’ll no!, that’s pushing us to buy something we didn’t order, like sell fake stuff, right? We finally refused to pay for the mystery fish. We definitely will not go back.

Meshi Sushi has its soft-opening tonight! I started out with their miso soup which was perfect to warm me up on 45 degree F’s evening in SF. The owner welcome us with a fresh crunchy lettuce salad on the house. The white tuna sashimi melted in my mouth! I personally love the Grace Roll which was wrapped with asparagus, spicy tuna & butter fish. Be sure to try the seared Unagi & shrimp roll; it’s drizzled with delicious sauce created by the chef. I will come back to try other rolls in the menu.
