We met Matt through a co-​worker who had gotten an amazing deal in the city the year before. We talked with him on the phone and he was friendly and informative and REALISTIC right off the bat.
Once we moved to the city to our apartment and started looking for our home Matt really took the time to get to know my wife and me and what we were looking for. He learned our personalities well and filtered out what we didn’t need to see. He also took the time to show us what our budget could get us… everything from the fixer-​uppers to the brand-​spankin new places. He has been in the game for long enough to know what to look for and that was great.
Once we found our dream place, Matt worked hard to make sure he was doing everything he could to get us the best deal. If you are his client, he will treat your home-​buying process like he was buying the place himself. He was available whenever we needed him and always had a smile on his face, no matter how many times we bugged him. He has plenty of contacts for getting information for financing too which was great, especially in a market like SF.

We found Matt to be such a tenacious and honest real estate guide for us with a consistently great attitude and sense of humor. We had a rather complicated (to put it mildly) closing that took a lot of bulldog-​ing and finesse on Matts part. He never dropped the ball over the course of several months working with the seller and their agent and got the deal done for us. I figured Matt would be helpful in my search because he was there for some of the most talented and picky designers I know. I had been browsing online for about a year or so before moving to the city. I had made one offer on a place and was outbid. This is pre moving to SF and honestly pre serious looking. Moving to SF was more a dream then a reality.
I knew what I wanted but needed someone who could understand that and was connected in SF.
On first meeting Matt he seemed overly competent in a city full of mediocre agents. He understood the market and even helped me find a temporary place… Honestly, what agents do you know that find a friend willing to rent you their place for a year while you look for a more permanent place. Matt always felt like a friend helping me through all of this and looking back i know he went above and beyond but during the time he never made me feel like that. It was just him helping without being asked.
So in my awesome rental that Matt helped me secure, I spent the next 11 months looking for a place. Now people say SF is crazy and people are always getting overbid. This was not my case. I knew what i wanted, and Matt understood that. Matt offered fair assessments of the few places I did want to look at. If I considered bidding on one, he gave me the information i needed to make an informed bid. He offered me advice on what I might want to compromise on, but he understood I was not a first time home buyer, and I knew what I wanted. He respected that. And in the one lapse of judgement where i did get in a sticky situation. Matt was there to help me get out of it.
So was Matt on top of the latest listings in this city? Definitively, yes. To the point of urban explorations of the latest unfinished development project. This guy will go the extra mile.
Fast forward to the end of my hunt. Matt, MADE me look at a project. I told him I disliked the architects previous projects as they felt cold. Again, he nudged me to check it out… He knew I would like it and no one had been to this project yet. He walked me through the door and I did. Thank you Matt for all your help, sticking with me, and honestly just making my first year in SF worth while. Thank you for being a part of my adventure.

We were referred to Magic Matt from not one but TWO of my close friends who bought their homes with him. My wife had owned before in Virginia and I was a first time home buyer. So needless to say, they both had to put up with my cold feet and indecisiveness. Matt worked his magic and got us an appointment to see our new home (even though others had waited in line for hours when the sales office first opened). He was always very responsive via text, phone or even Gchat! If I found a place I wanted to see on Redfin, he would be on top of it and we’d be walking through it that same day. What I loved most about Matt was that he was clearly looking out for our best interests because when we loved a place he put a sanity cap on how much we should offer. His knowledge of the market and inside track on many projects and homes got us access that we otherwise would not have had. He’s not only a realtor, he’s also a therapist. He was a trooper for putting up with all of my freak outs and calming my nerves and was a much needed voice of reason and rationale that is very necessary for a first-​time buyer especially in a crazy market like this. Without Matt, we literally would not be living in our new home. Because he knew exactly what we were looking for after spending some time with us, he showed us a place that we otherwise would not have considered (because of an odd floorplan). And our friends have all reaffirmed our big decision and love our new home as much as we do!

Matt found me a wonderful home that I could afford and that had nearly everything on my wish list. Wow! I don’t have enough superlatives to express how our experience with Matt has been. Finding a good real estate agent is not easy or obvious — I had worked with two, unsuccessfully, before a friend recommended Matt. He made it abundantly visible in his actions and words that our happiness was paramount — that we were not another potential sale, but we were partners and what we valued and wanted was paramount — not just in a home but in life. And when we realized that our happiness was best preserved by putting off our plans to buy in SF, Matt couldn’t be more understanding and excited to work with us again when our plans changed.

Oh my, where to even begin! Matt is a fantastic real estate agent, pure and simple. Six months ago we decided to start looking into buying a home, and Matt was recommended to us by our friends who he had just helped purchase a home. From the first meeting with Matt, a few things were clear: he is a great listener, he is very charming and great to be around, he is as savvy about the SF real estate market as they come, and perhaps most importantly — he is unwaveringly honest in his opinion without being overbearing.
It is a tough market out there, and probably more than anything having an agent who is going to listen, think, and then be straight with you are the most important elements of a good working relationship. In the end it’s the buyer who has to make the tough calls (as it should be — Matt never pressured us into anything) but he always made sure we thoroughly understood our options.
If you’ve never gone through the process of buying a home, you learn along the way what separates a good agent from an excellent one. We really lucked out with Matt — so while we didn’t have to experience the pain of a difficult agent, we never took the things that make Matt great for granted. Matt strikes a wise balance between being conservative while still being aggressive enough to make sure you submit the best offer possible. He has even been known to hand-​deliver offers when it comes to a place you really have your heart set on.
Matt was also extremely gracious about his time. We NEVER felt like we were bothering him or that he was rushing us. He made us feel important even though he had many other clients at the same time. He would come over late to go over contracts with us, meet us at open houses we were interested in, even go out to sushi to talk strategy. He really cares about his clients and is extremely hardworking.
At the end of the day, though, you’re agent can only go so far in shaping your homebuying process — another lesson we learned is you will have a 10-​fold better experience as a buyer if you go in with some realistic ideas of your budget, how you’re going to finance the home, what kind of home you’re looking for, etc. And be flexible — it can be so discouraging in SF right now, but it’s just the market — so I suggest to be prepared and be realistic.
I think if you follow those rules and ask Matt to be your agent, you’ll have a great experience.
