I love Market Street Gallery. I’ve been to several shows there, most recently Skate this Art, where I got an amazing deal on a painted deck. They are always welcoming, and their shows are well curated. A great, locally-owned gallery.

The current exhibition is a silent auction of art skate decks. It’s pretty interesting the see the variety of work. The level of technique varies but most decks range from a minimum bid of $ 50, to a maximum bid of $ 200. If you love art skate decks you should check it out. The space is quite spacious and they have additional room in the back. The owner is friendly and cool. Watch out for the cat if you have allergies. Keep an eye out for sketchy loiterers in the area.

Newsflash: Market Street can be sketchy. However, due in large part to said sketchyness, & the fact that the masses will thus tend to avoid certain areas along Market(like the space between 5th&8th), some gems along Market can slip under the radar. The Market Street Gallery is one of such places. I was there earlier tonight for the reception of ReArt — an exibit featuring art made from recycled material. The space was a little bit small, but the atmosphere was awesome. I wouldn’t say I’m an art aficionado/expert, but if I ever do put together a photo show(this has been the plan for a very long time), I’ll strongly consider trying to kick it off at Market Street Gallery.
