They did not close. They just *re-invented* themselves! they call themselves Mission Chinese Food, and in fine print you’ll see their old name: OI Hrmmmp!!!

I didn’t understand the menu but I ordered some things for the name and I had a really nice surprise! There is a cool atmosphere. I had to share the table with a strange couple who wanted to talk and it was fun. To go to the toilett you have to cross the kitchen, just in case, don’t look around! It was a great night with a delicious spanish wine.

So like everyone else– had to try this place especially after it was on the layover. Very unique chinese food– lots of weird but tasty options. Went during the lunch hour on a Thursday. Overall quick service, you are there for the food not the atmosphere. We had the sea urchin(my first and last time), the cod rice, kung pao pastrami, pork belly, and the beef soup. Everything was very good– fairly reasonable prices. We also discovered they deliver all over the city which is a great plus.

chicken wings– — spicy, delish beef cheek w/veges — mild, delish spicy tofu dish — pretty much on the spot flavorwise, must get rice with it or else its too salty/spicy chicken fried rice — YUM can eat it alone all day everyday ill def be going back

This is definitely for the hipsters. Loud hip hop and dark lighting, but it was 90’s hip hop so no diggity, no doubt. The wait wasn’t terrible, about 30+ min. The food was a really interesting southeast asian fusion. I liked it because it was surprising. I came with a group and ordered a lot of dishes. The best dish was definitely the veal shank($ 16). The lamb came in second. Both were worth coming for. Everything else was good, but nothing I’d go out of my way for. The pork belly and cold buckwheat noodles were good, so were the mussels. Salted fried rice wasn’t bad. The bittermelon and some wild veggie dish were forgettable. Either way, be ready for some spice. I’d come again with a group, but probably won’t make regular trips. Service was good. Be ready to smell like the place after you leave, but it’s a pretty good smell. The menu said they donated .75 per plate ordered to the food bank, so that’s another plus.

I go to China two or three times a year for business, and discovered Lung Shan this summer at a friend’s house when he ordered takeout. To make it simple: This is the closest I’ve come to getting actual Chinese food in the USA. Not the salty, greasy stuff that passes for«Chinese» food all over the country; I mean the kind of lip-smacking, cumin-crusted lamb you’d find in a Uyghur place in a Chaoyang hutong, and Szechuan-peppered pork shoulder that will leave your mouth feeling like it got roofied. Oh, and these dudes are NOT afraid of the chili pepper, in its various incarnations. There are no «American spicy or Chinese spicy» options here. Bring your nutsack, this place brings some serious Asian fire. My advice: stay away. The lines are bad enough as it is.

I’ve been curious about this place for a long time because if I pass here during the weekends, there’s always a line outside. I always believe that if you see the line, this place can’t be bad. Despite my curiosity, I’ve always gone somewhere else whenever we want to grab a bite. Monday, again, my bf and I wanted to grab something to eat and again we chose to go to Yamo(one of our favorite places half block away from Lung Shan,) however, Yamo was packed. We turned around and saw Lung Shan. What could be a better day to try this place? This is not a fancy place but since we were there for the food, I didn’t think the appearance is all that important. When we walked in, the place looked pretty busy. We weren’t sure if we needed to be seated or we could simple seat ourselves in any available table and all the waiters who passed us didn’t even bother to greet us or at least acknowledge our coming. It didn’t bother me that much because a lot of Chinese restaurants are like this. So as we were about to pick a table and seat ourselves, a lady came and took us to our table. After we sat down, I started to smell something disgusting. It is the smell of dirty moldy cleaning rags and my disgust was brought to a higher level when I saw an old lady clean one table with one dirty rag and used the same rag to clean other 4 tables. The air flow in the restaurant wasn’t good enough to let the dirty rag smell go away. To me, that kinda set the tone for the food but my curiosity was so strong that I was willing to ignore the bad smell. When I looked around, people seemed to be happy about their food. But you definitely don’t want that smell in your own place. They also served water in jars that just didn’t look clean to me, so I didn’t drink my glass of water at all. I used the water to wet my napkin so I can wipe the smelly table again on my own. They have quite a bit lamb dishes which I don’t eat. They also have dishes with combination I have never seen before, like broccoli beef with oyster and bacon with bitter melon. I was willing to try 2 dishes out of 24 of their dishes. Then my bf decided that we each order one item of each page, so I order Hainan chicken and he ordered thrice cooked bacon. Of course it took them a while to take our order. The food came pretty quick(in about 5 minutes.) The Hainan chicken was disappointing because it tasted like over night rice. I’m pretty sure it could be the vinegar but the real Hainan chicken doesn’t call for vinegar. The thrice cooked bacon was good but not outstanding. I can easily get the same type of food elsewhere. Since the food is not as GREAT as they look, the dirty rag smell started to bother me along with their cheezy decoration. I couldn’t wait to run out of that place. If you want decent Chinese food without dirty rag smell lingering in the restaurant, please don’t come to this place. I’ve had Chinese food all my life in different restaurants and countries. This is place is not worth of your waiting in line. If you do go, please bring your disinfecting wipes!

Great experience here. Went to Mission Chinese food, the Chinese food restaurant inside the Chinese food restaurant. Friend read about it in an article in the NY Times. The food was delicious. They use organic and local ingredients so it’s not your typical Chinese food restaurant. Restaurant was at capacity the whole time and had a decent wait outside for a Thursday night. We were seated with at a shared table common to certain Chinese restaurants. Had three dishes, 1. ‘Mouth Watering” Chicken — This dish was composed of chicken breast and seared chicken hearts. This dish had a light and fresh taste to it. A good amount of spice that made me sweat a little bit. 2. Thrice Cooked Bacon — Bacon sauteed with rice cakes, tofu, and bitter melon. They mellowed the bitterness of the bitter melon. Dunno if it’s because of the way it’s cooked or where its from but it’s the first time that I’ve liked the taste! The this thing had peppers in it that added to the spiciness. 3. Slow-Chooked Char Sui Pork Belly — Decadent. Crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside. Very heavy dish and enjoyed every bite of this one.

My pubes went gray before we even got menus. Fish dumplings tasted like fish-filled kitten mittens. Everything had cilantro. Too much of it, I dare say. Music was Kanye, but all muffled. It was like we were next door to club. Fairly certain I got food poisoning from the lukewarm meat dish. Blah blah blah nobody reads this anyway.

The day before today’s article in the Style Section, I popped into a greasy spoon I’d heard about in the Mission in SF, Luan Shan. «Whimsical Chinese» if you call fatty and oily lamb and broth whimsical? BTW don’t venture to the bathrooms. Hype and spin sometimes works backwards:( Kim

This is not your grandmother’s Chinese food, unless of course, your Grandma is Chinese, maybe Jewish, who migrated to America through Mexico. Then maybe she works here. In that case, this is your Grandma’s Chinese food, and I want to hang out with her because she makes some DAMNGOODCHINESEFOOD! I had the Kung Pao Corned Beef, and the Buckwheat Cold Noodles. The KPCB was excellent, albeit, REALLY spicy. I’m not a big spicy guy, but I handled it with one beer(and white rice). The beef had great flavor, and I loved the way they sliced the potatoes, making them almost like onions, yet without the flavor of an onion. Instead the potato adds texture, and the spices are somewhat absorbed by them. The peanuts are a good Kung Pao touch, and the peppers are certainly peppery. It’s a winner. **Btw, that’s the most intricate way I’ve ever described a food item** The Cold Noodles have a small kick to them, and they’re delicious as well. I went for 2 of the 6 – 7 stranger things on a menu that you normally would not get in a Chinese restaurant, and I’m happy I did. So unique. Other people were getting the BBQ, which comes with White Bread and other standard BBQ sides. It’s strange that they’re serving it, but it looked really damn good. I had some buyer’s remorse, but where else am I getting Kung Pao CORNEDBEEF?!? If you’re expecting the Beef and Broccoli, which I was told by the table next to me «is great», why even go there? They charge a beer corkage fee of $ 1 on small bottles, and $ 2 on big bottles. I suggest if you’re going to get the Spicy foods bring a 6 pack of India Pale Ale. Normally I don’t love IPAs, but I’ve learned recently that IPAs do a better job of cutting through spicy foods than any other beers out there. 4.5 stars.

Despite it being a rainy day on a Saturday night, my girlfriends and I went here. One of my girls mentioned this place and since I like to try new things… this was exciting. OHMYGAWD, it was! We ordered the Westlake Porridge and dude… so so good. Especially me, a person with a cold. Oh, adding a little black pepper helps a whole dang lot. I loves me some porridge here. However, the eel that seemed to be wrapped like spring rolls are so so so good. However, celery didn’t really give me my bang for my buck. But, worth a try. We had beef brisket BBQ. Damn, it was tender and yummy. I wanted to try lamb but maybe another time(yeah, I’m totally coming back here!!!) Also, had the egg custard thing. It is really for people with an acquired taste. I did not like the sweet aftertaste. I don’t eat rice with chocolate… or do I? Well, some people might like it. But overall, we stayed there for a long time… eating. I felt a little sorry for people who were waiting to be seated outside the rain but ohhhh well! I want some porridge now!

Pork Belly, Beef Cheeks and Cumin Lamb!!! HOLY F-ING ASSRAPEHOLE! The blending of seasonings from one dish to the next was like hearing all of your favorite genres of music humping each other in a bowl of vaseline and KY. I don’t know what that means but I think you get the point. This is the Missions little glory hole-in the wall. I definitely will be back!!!

*One star for the quick and friendly delivery. *No stars for the most tasteless sweet and sour pork we’ve EVER eaten. Even the white rice was bland… I know! *Menu in trash… only reason we ordered from this s**t hole is because our regular place was closed.

*** update 2÷26÷11 *** I have learned that Lung Shan becomes Mission Street Food(or offers that menu) on certain nights(Thursday /Saturday). That may be the confusion in reviews. Here is the article from last year with this info — *** previous review*** I’m amazed that this place is getting such low scores on Unilocal.Reading through the reviews I realize it’s from people ordering off the wrong menu. Sure, they have their standard take-out menu. But they also have a 2nd menu and that is where the yummy is. We had beef cheeks there were melty yummy goodness. The pork belly had crispy skin which went well with the fattiness of it. The other things we had were the seaweed salad over noodles which was a good palette cleanser for us, the chicken wings were so crispy with lots of flavor, the vegan mushroom soup was great and I don’t ever eat vegan food. We fed 6 people for $ 26 each and that’s including tip with plenty of leftovers to take home. The space was tight but it was a fun family style meal and I will definitely revisit when I’m in SF again.

I like to pilfer take-out and delivery menus from other people’s doors and car windshields. Is that bad? One of the menus I snuck into my apartment was from Lung Shan, and so one Saturday after work, I called them for delivery because I was just plain lazy and didn’t feel like going out. They have a pretty large menu and, people who like Panda Express, take note: they have all of your white-washed favorites like Broccoli Beef. The delivery is $ 10 minimum, which is okay for one person(dude one place had a $ 50 minimum!), but Chinese food is really cheap. I ended up with the garlic chicken and a shrimp won ton soup. The garlic chicken was a solid 4 stars. Celery, carrots, watercress, baby corn and chicken were sauteed in a savory(and a tad bit sweet) garlic sauce and served with white rice. The portion was big enough where I could eat half of it and save the rest for dinner so as not to feel like a glutton, but I ate the whole thing. In one sitting. In less than 10 minutes. The shrimp won ton soup was less than spectacular, and it garnered maybe like 2 stars. Bland soup, bland shrimp, bland smallish wontons. Overall not very filling or tasty. It was nice and hot though, and cheap. Delivery was fast, nice and the person who answered the phone was always nice as well. Total was $ 13 for my order, and with tip it came out to $ 16. I think I’ve learned that Chinese takeout is better when you have more than one person, because while a $ 10 minimum is decent for a single, you can easily meet that with a dish each for two people, which really knocks down the price per person. Maybe a next time, but only if everything else is closed.

I really don’t like to give unfavorable reviews, but Lung Shan left me no choice. I ordered online from , so please note that this review is only for the food – not the restaurant itself. The food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time, and the delivery person was quite nice. That’s about all the positive feedback I can give. My expectations for Chinese delivery are not at all high, and I still threw out everything but the soup after a few bites. Beef with greens and pan-fried noodles had a few pieces of gummy, tasteless beef and wilted bok-choy. Snow white chicken was way too garlicky(and I do love my garlic!), and the vegetables were limp and overcooked. The roast pork appetizer came swimming in a thick, overwhelmingly sweet sauce. The hot and sour soup(free with $ 15 purchase) was passable, though not even a tiny bit hot, and lacking the ground or shredded pork that most restaurants tend to include. I’ve enjoyed the food from 3 – 4 of the other Chinese restaurants on Eat24Hours, and will order from one of them next time.

Review based on delivery order. Got the family dinner special«B» and it took an hour for the food to arrive. Everything was decent but a bit too greasy. I think I liked the Moo Sho Chicken best, but really nothing to rave about here.

Called ahead 40 minutes on my way into the city. This was on the way to a friend’s pot luck, so I decided to order a bunch of spring rolls for the event. The woman, as described in other reviews, does indeed sit and watch a TV in the back of the(empty, at the time) restaurant. The spring rolls were fresh, crispy, and tasty. Contrary to some other reviews, the woman at the counter had no problem understanding me nor did I have any problems understanding her. $ 20 for 4 orders of spring rolls may have been a bit expensive, but it was worth it for the occasion.
