This place rocks. They are great people and serve the best Mexican food in the Marina. Everyone in San Francisco has their favorites down in the Mission — but La Canasta can totally hang with that crowd. The food is legit. I’ve been going to this place since the mid-1990’s. I’m so glad that it’s still here!

I am a big fan of Mexican food and Chipotle. Yes, La Canatas burrito is kind of small for the price you pay for and compare to the fast food chain, but I would still give this place a good rating. The pollo burrito is great. The owner is the sweetest man ever, he enjoys chatting with his customers and even become good friends with his return customers. It is my first time at this place and he offers me a bag of tortilla chips. It just so good to have such a heart warming mom and pop store that serves delicious quality food in a commercialized neighborhood and did I mention the burrito is great!

This place is a little Mexican gem on the corner of Buchanan, one I’ve never even heard of despite working in the area for a while. You can say that the term«gem» usually does not refer to a place that I don’t even rate 4 stars, but in reality, there are not many places to grab a decent burrito on Union Street if you work in the area and can’t go far. I was VERY surprised by how friendly the staff is, especially the man who handles the cash register who I assume is most likely the owner. The reason I was surprised about the service is because the place actually uses grills rather than steam pots that keep the food warm. I think it’s pretty great, because every single person who orders is getting fresh meat straight off the grill, rather than food that’s been sitting there for a while. Also, despite numerous people waiting for their order at a time, the owner never feels pressured or rushed and always converses with the people there. The food itself was NOT bad at all. I would say that it was average. My definition of average is probably different than others as someone who has ate at many, many burrito places in the past. I’ve definitely had amazing burrito’s far above average in the Mission, so if I’m not doing a comparison and being less picky, I would definitely bump this review to a 4 star, as the place itself is pretty good and worth a try. Highly recommend this place is you are craving Mexican on a work day and are in the area.

Advantage in that one of the few Mexican places on the street although there are a couple of good places over on Chestnut. Food a little uninspired, toned down to the point of no flavor. But if your craving a burrito, this is the only gig around. Mas sabor por favor !

Most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in a long time and the service was great. The man behind the counter was extremely friendly and the food was all cooked fresh on the grill right in front of you. I would definitely go back.

I never do Unilocal reviews unless I have a great experience. This place has been around for over 20 years and there is a reason why. It is good traditional Mexican food at a great price. I always get the pollo burrito. Places like this don’t exist in cow hollow and need to be supported especially as neighborhoods and rent prices keep going up. Alberto is the sweetest man and if you go there often he always gives you food on the house. He really enjoys talking with his customers and I am so glad I found this place! Definitely a hidden gem in a over commercialized district of the city.

Was craving Mexican food and wanted to try something different in the neighborhood so I stumbled on La Canasta. I’m so glad I did! The burritos were great and this a small family owned shop. If you’re looking for a late night bite off of Union or are just in the mood for Mexican like I was — check out La Canasta!

I am so happy to have found this place on my lunch break today. This place is a gem. It doesn’t break the bank and the food is amazing. I’m a huge fan of Mexican food, so this PSA is legit LOL. The food, prices & customer service is all AWESOME. I’m beyond pleased. Check them out !

A decent and cheap taqueria in the marina. Nothing too special about it. One of the only Mexican places in the marina that delivers, which is probably how you’ll discover it on an afternoon following a day with too many fireball whiskeys. The guacamole is a little sketchy, pretty sure there’s a 55 gallon drum of it in the back that arrived a few years ago. Los Hermanos is a recommended alternative if you can manage to get outside without falling over.

Outstanding! While waiting for the bus, I got hungry. So I popped in and got a vegetarian taco. My belly is so happy now. And the man at the counter is possibly the nicest man in SF.

This place is kinf a hole in the wall sort of across rom The Brick Yard. Good for a quick chile relleno burrito. I think its owned and run by a husband and wife. Portions are large and quality is good.

Quality control has gone down some, they are over-worked and short staffed. I understand running a restaurant for over 25 years with only one day off a week and no time tor a vacation would weigh anyone down!. Loyal customers will not continue to be if they feel the wonderful owners don’t care nearly as much as they used to, It’s not too late, they just need a new outlook and plan. Hope someone can assist them or maybe help save the place. ITISNOTTOOLATE.

I’ve eaten here for years. Ingredients are very fresh. They cook the steak and chicken while you wait. The carne asada is the best. The places(like this one) that throw the tortilla on the stove to heat it instead of in a steamer are hand made, that’s a little pro-tip for you. Run by nice family.

The best Mexican food north of market st. This place is great specially since I live in the Marina and there are no other Mexican food restaurants in the area that compare to this one. The service is very friendly and Don Alberto(owner) is a great guy. I usually come twice a week and the burritos are my favorite specially the steak burro. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican Food. And before I forget, the also carry the delicious bottled sodas from Mexico like Coke, Sangria, Orange(fanta) and Strawberry… Try it. you wont regret it…

Open M — Sat till 9 p.m. Positives: 1. FRIENDLY and COURTEOUS service 2. Fair prices 3. Good tacos Negatives: 1. Awful burrito(chili colorado) 2. Good luck finding parking 3. Not very quick(which would be okay if the burriots were good) since it’s not a fast food place like taco bell

We went here because the place around the corner serving 12 dollar sandwiches looked like they took themselves a little too seriously.(Loosen up: it’s all the same in the end.) I’m glad we did because you appreciate food when you watch the person make it ten feet away. The food was good, and fresh, and we liked how they had«mild,» «hot,» and a third temperature which sounded like the second but came with a smile that indicated someone likes to watch hipsters go to the hospital. I enjoyed the food and moreover liked giving them my money a lot more than the other places in the area that looked like they needed money like a lobster needs earmuffs. The bad reviews for this place are so disgraceful it’s funny — some guy and his wife are making you food out of a place too small to do shoe repair, and all the complaints are that their delivery takes too long. Have you actually seen the place? Come on, man. If gas is that expensive walk there, or skateboard, or segue or invent some other new mode of transportation that no one can use anywhere with a climate. Lemme see… let’s retrofit Pogo Balls with jet-ski motors. Lazy gits. Pros: Reasonably priced Quick, well-prepared food Locally owned. Like I think I saw into the living room from the register. Cons: No indoor seating Should apparenly hire a new delivery badger.

Take out or delivery ONLY. Very nice people, but the food is mediocre. Tacos get very soggy almost immediately and cannot be picked up, so you will likely need to eat them with a fork. The enchilada had green sauce which I honestly could not force myself to eat, though the filling was okay. Tamales are extremely dry, and come with a small(think tiny dipping sauce) container of black beans instead of salsa, and was not worth eating. Shrimp burritos are okay, but definitely far from the best in town — part of this may be because they seem to microwave the shrimp instead of freshly cook it. Also, their spicy salsa is less hot than most medium jars of salsa, and kind of a let down. I don’t think I’ll be going back.
