Had lunch here today with my coworker. We got here around 12:40PM, and it wasn’t super packed. Got a seat right away. The server brought over some menus, and waters. I ordered the Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Special($ 8.50) with California rolls(+1.50/3 pieces). That chicken is good! It’s seriously nothing special, but the sauce is just nom noms. lol. I feel like its just teriyaki sauce mixed with sirarchi. lol. whatever, it was bomb… I ate the whollleee thing. Aside from the chicken, it also came with rice, soup, salad, and a slice of orange. I was stuffed!!! lol. Plenty of food!!! Yums! My coworker said her grilled mackerel was good… she finished the whole thing too… lol I think other items are a bit pricier than most. It’s definitely not fine dining japanese food either. It’s more of a «I’m craving for a bento box» kind of place. Quick service, Ok prices, large portions, SPICYYYYYCHICKEN! I will be back!

Got the Lion King, Cali roll and a ramen as take out from here. Great service, very affordable prices and the sushi is definitely superior to some of the other options in the area. Not sure why it’s only a 2.5 stars. Don’t be deceived, this place is underrated! Will be back.

Eh. Overpriced and the sushi is not fresh at all. Rolls literally fall apart when you pick them up with your chopsticks. Waitstaff is like a deer in the headlights and look overwhelmed with the volume that that place gets. The food is of inferior quality and I much rather go down the street and around the corner to Sushi Umi.

Veggie udon with raw broccoli and carrots in it & water for broth?! And for over $ 7! Just say no! Tokyo Express’ udon is way better than here!

2.5 stars. I’d go back, but it’s like a West Hartford, CT-level Japanese place. Overpriced for sure. My Lion King roll was reheated. And it cost frikkin $ 10.50 for a reheated, small roll cut into 6 pieces. The teriyaki sauce was cloyingly sweet. Wasn’t bad, though. Just meh.

Definitely had better sashimi than this place. 2 Stars are for the quick and friendly service. A little over priced but they can over charge because its around Financial District. I would rather go to the sushi place in the Ferry Bldg. Nice view too.

I was early for a meeting in the Financial District and wanted to grab a bite to eat, so I hopped on my handy dandy Unilocal app and found Kamakura! They offer a decent sized menu with loads of relatively inexpensive meal options(avg $ 8 — $ 10). I went for the 9pc California Roll with Miso soup, which surprisingly was only $ 6.25. Quite the steal! Everything was delicious and completely hit the spot. I was tempted to partake in their happy hour offerings, which begin at 3:30, but my tummy was full and I don’t know how much my comrades would have appreciated me coming in smelling of sake! From my experience I’d say it’s a solid Japanese option in the area. Good prices and good service. Also nice to have a legit restaurant in the midst of all the casual take out places nearby.

The sushi chef is very friendly and allows you to substitute but it is still way overpriced sushi. Their kitchen food is pretty bland and boring and their wait staff is always rushing you to to order, eat your food, bring the check and get you out. Consider the high competiton in fidi, I’m surprised they still exist…

This place think they can get away with serving soggy-ass rolls with imitation crab, dry frozen looking tonkatsu and their fishy tasting sashimi! The tables, menus and the floor are sticky! Their menus and signs are misspelled in Japanese! WTF?!

i love bento box! the employees are sweet the minimum purchase with your card is $ 10 the lady was sweet enough to let me go my first time(as i was thinking what else to order). they have pre-made sushi if you are interested to go or even to dine in. When you order they are fast and accurate with orders.(obviously ive been to places that mess up my picky orders ha ha) anyways, if you are in the area during lunch i would get there a little bit earlier, or after the noonish rush.

Well priced for FiDi, but not very tasty. Their«special» spicy chicken was really disappointing. Not spicy and hardly any taste. I had to dunk each piece in soy sauce to add any flavor. On the other hand, the chicken was pretty good quality so I would go back to try their teriyaki chicken which I’m sure is better flavored than what I ate. The gyoza I would definitely recommend, although I wish the sauce for them was better/less salty. The sushi sampler came out in a big boat which was really fun and unexpected. i would take people here just for the boat and some gyoza.

Avoid this place at all cost. 1). There was a long tangled strand of hair in my already soggy unagi don. 2). The sashimi was washed out looking — totally not fresh. 3). Glass of water(not like I’ll ever drink tap water) had dust around the rim. 4). It was literally dirty and day old rice 5). They charge $ 1.50 for tea. I’d rather starve than ever step foot in here again.

I would never go here again. It’s pretty much an atrocity to Japanese food. I came in for lunch with a coworker, and ordered the Beef Sukiyaki(comes with the standard miso soup, salad and white rice) and green tea. My coworker got the California Roll, which also came with miso. I don’t really know what I was expecting, but I was disappointed with my food. The beef was dry and it didn’t look or taste like a lot of culinary expertise was put into it. It was like grilled meat with soy sauce marinade. The sides were pretty standard. HOWEVER, my coworker was raving about how she got 12 pieces of sushi for $ 6… I had to hold back a couple of eyerolls because quantity does NOT beat out quality. OH, and my green tea came in a bottle… huh. The restaurant is really big and has a lot of seating, and has some large tables for families/large groups. The place was clean and service was friendly, but the food took a while to come out.

Their udon, bentos and gyoza are great. Avoid the ramen! It’s super salty. We drank water all afternoon to offset the sodium bloat. Friendly and fast service. Decent deal for FiDi lunch option.

This place is busy during lunch times. Friendly service and interesting combination of Japanese food and American twist. Broccoli crowns and cabbage in a udon soup is new to me but the flavor is decent

Yowzas. There’s a lot of haters on here. I am not a hater, I am not a lover. I am a supporter, however. This place does what any good Japanese eat-in/eat-out place does: decent, fresh, potentially healthy(depends on what you order), attractive looking food at affordable prices. And I got service with a smile, especially after I said«arrigato» after I ordered w/the friendly cashier. For $ 11, I walked out with 9 pieces of fresh sashimi, brown rice and miso soup. Was it Blowfish or Sushi Groove? No. Was it healthy and tasty? Yes.

I judge japanese restaurants two ways — one is by the freshness of their sashimi and sushi. The other is by the way they cook their teriyaki. The best places will actually marinate the meat in the sauce, leaving it tender and juicy. The bad places just grill the meat and pour sauce on top so the meat is dry and doesn’t even absorb the sauce. But THIS place does it right. Their tuna sashimi is fresh and not too thickly sliced, and their teriyaki is done right. I also like that they serve beer — I’ve gotten my «pre-happy hour» on there a few times! It’s a nice little lunch getaway — although it gets a bit crowded just like any other lunchtime spot downtown, you can usually find a table. And the servers don’t rush you. Yamakura, you’re A-OK with me :)

(See pic that looks better than it really was, unfortunately) It’s a cute spacious with a loft upstairs sushi joint that also serves bento boxes at a reasonable price. The Kamakura sushi combo I had was a lot of food for 11 bucks: 7 nigiri, 3 cucumber and 4 kappa maki, so much food. Quality was so so, however. Complimentary miso soup and hot tea were great! Service was nice but sushi was made to order so it took about 10 to 15 mins.
