This location closed 3 years ago, so sue me for writing a review just now. They had a few really good cakes. The Weekend Cake(double-layer chocolate with mocha cream and shaved white & dark chocolates sprinkled on the frosting) was a favorite at my old office, followed by the Carrot Cake(too sweet for me), and a few other Mousse cake specials. Before they became a chain — I remember when I was little, my aunt used to take me to the original store location in the Marina(now a Starbucks), next to the Marina Safeway, to get a piece of cake or pie(the original place had pies, I liked the apple crumb pie) and some ice cream. In my opinion, they lost the charm and some food quality was affected, when they became a chain.

Just get cakes and nothing else! They have a special technique for creating their icing because it looks thick and sturdy but melts right in your mouth. The cake itself is very moist and semi-sweet, so your taste buds won’t be overwhelmed. Hands down, the carrot cake is the best there! Okay maybe it’s biased because it’s my favorite cake; or maybe it’s good that it’s my favorite because I would know what I’m talking about! ;) Would I pay $ 4-$ 5 for a piece of cake everyday… No. But I would splurge once a month for it, even if I have to look for pennies under my sofa. The things I do for sweets!

Just Desserts once had a cranberry pecan pie offered only during the holiday season. This was the only product everyone we knew loved and wanted more of. Year after year, this popular dessert at our Thanksgiving and Christmas parties disappeared into oblivion until one year, they stopped making it. Oh the ruin you’ve caused us!

I just got a B-Day cake for a co-worker here too! The cake was pricy, but once you take that first bite and begin to melt, you relize it was worth every penny.

I’ll give them high marks for their pie crusts(which make the pies much better than they would be) and their carrot cake. Everything else is a bit forgettable.
