He is awesome! Don’t let the fact that he is a male midwife make you not consider him as a provider. He is very personable, puts you at ease, makes you feel very comfortable and is definitely fun! John has delivered 2 out of the three kids we have. We switched to John after we had a bad experience with a different practice when we had our first baby. His is very comforting. He will sit and talk with you rather than wait until the last second to arrive. He will asnwer any questions and keep you updated through the entire delivery. His bed side manners are incredible. You can tell he loves his job.

John took over my care when I transferred from Palo Alto medical foundation. At the time I was already about 28 weeks pregnant, so I only had the pleasure of seeing John for a couple of months. John is amazing! I actually looked forward to my appointments with him. He was warm, funny, and showed a genuine interest in me and my baby. I ended up delivering on a day that John was not delivering, but he was the one who discharged me and helped reassure me about going home with a baby for the first time! He’s also been amazingly supportive during follow up appointments. I highly recommend John of you are looking for a great practitioner during your pregnancy and beyond.

John epitomizes the best aspects of a caregiver. He is knowledgeable and very capable in the technical aspect of his job, but I think what sets him apart is his bedside manner. He keeps you well informed and educated about your medical procedures and options, but does so in a manner that isn’t belittling or confusing. I first started to see John in 2012 right around the time my husband and I wanted to start a family. It took us a while and John was very supportive and informative along the way. When I became pregnant at the end of 2013 John continued to be a strong supporter, especially when I learned that I had a high risk pregnancy. Given the higher complications of the pregnancy, I ended up seeing his colleague Dr. Izumi Cabrera in the final months of my pregnancy (another individual on the team who is also very competent and someone I would also recommend.) After giving birth, John would stop by just to say hi and see how we were doing, even though he was no longer the primary individual on the case.
John has a strong medical background. He is caringand always made me feel comfortable during annual exams– which, if we ladies are honest, can be awkward and uncomfortable in the wrong hands.
This is the first Unilocal review I have ever given and I am happy that it is one about an individual that truly deserves the credit he is due.

I had a medical emergency in early January of this year. When I first arrived to the clinic, all the doctors were completely booked, but John said he would see me. Since that visit I have had two other emergencies and yet again, John has saved the day. I honestly have never had such a wonderful doctor/​patient relationship. He is really knowledgeable and will get you the help you need right away.
I am really appreciative of his services and the services of the other wonderful doctors I have had the pleasure of seeing at Sutter Health. I most certainly don’t see myself changing doctors anytime soon.

As good as it gets — yes! I just started seeing him, and I feel so lucky to have found a CNM that’s so wonderful. Thank you John!

John Fassett is the bee’s knees! Lucky for me John was the on-​call when I went to Sutter in an emergency situation. Without giving too much detail, I was experiencing early pregnancy complications and was in a state of despair. John was just what I needed. Calm, caring, and understanding; he listened to me fully before giving me the answers I desperately needed. He took his time explaining, didn’t cut corners, and didn’t leave the room until I felt confident. Thank you John!

John is the absolute best! There aren’t enough words to describe how amazing he is at what he does. After extensively searching for an OB that I felt comfortable with, I stumbled upon John on Unilocal.I had a high risk pregnancy and was pretty anxious the majority of the time. I knew that I’d need someone professional, with a sense of humor that could tolerate all of my crazy questions. I live in the East Bay, so the commute to his office wasn’t the most convenient, but it was 100% worth it! From the moment I met with John I knew he was the perfect fit.
John put me at ease every time I stepped foot in the exam room. He made himself available throughout my entire pregnancy, called me after hours to check-​up on me and kept me informed with all my lab results. He even adjusted his vacation to deliver my baby via c-​section! Although I’m thrilled to have a healthy baby boy, I kinda miss my regular visits to the office.
Aside from John, the rest of the office staff is also stellar! The ladies who work the front desk were always upbeat, pleasant and accommodating.

I was blown away by John’s reviews so I was very excited to meet him when I first learned I was pregnant.
Unfortunately I had a very negative experience with him during my meet and greet. When he came into the room over 20 minutes late, he jumped into wanting to do a vaginal ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy before he had even introduced himself.
I told him that I was there to do a meet and greet and he said — ‘oh, I thought we were confirming the pregnancy’. Then he put on heavy pressure to do the ultrasound which made me very uncomfortable. When I said I want to learn more about the process and him specifically — he response was an annoyed ‘Ok — what do you want to know…’.
When explained that I was hoping to have a natural birth, he was immediately put-​off and said ‘that may happen, but after years of experience, you should really consider getting pain medication — I seen enough births to know.‘
I am now with Dr. Laurie Green who is GREAT!

John rocks my socks off! No, like I really had to take my socks off! *Kidding* but really… John is great. Great, I say!
Visiting the OBGYN is not a trip anyone looks forward to, but with John, I was put at ease and he listened to my concerns without judgement. Regarding my concerns, his words to me were, «It is time to deal with this»! That’s what you need, ladies. Someone who gets IT done. Not because it’s a job, but because he cares about your health, too.
He’s funny and smart. Gentle and kind. Take care of your body and GO TO JOHN!

In addition to all the great things other reviewers have said (John is warm, funny, caring, amazing), I thought I’d add my experience of his delivery of my two daughters in 2010 and 2013.
I was seeing another OB who was beating me up about my weight gain in my first pregnancy, when someone suggested I see John Fassett. John was understanding and after examining my legs said, «I think a lot of your weight is water» — and I found out afterward that he was right! My first delivery did not go as planned because the baby did not descend. I labored throughout the night, and John was constantly on the phone with the nurse at the hospital checking in on me. Due to my insistence and because the baby was never in distress, he kept allowing me to push. Long story short, after 9 hours of pushing he had the difficult conversation with me and told me I had to have a c-​section. He knew I was terribly disappointed and he was incredibly caring in the surgery and afterward.
Anyway, 3 years later I was pregnant again. John and I talked about the option for a VBAC. After everything, I decided that was not the right option for me and since he’s a midwife, I didn’t really know how John would react. But as soon as I decided that, John was on board 100% with my decision and was so, so supportive. Again, the prenatal care I received from John was spectacular.
On the day of my c-​section, John was on vacation and actually drove down from Napa to be at my delivery. I told him he didn’t have to but he did it anyway — wow, that is caring and dedication! The experience of the c-​section was great. Yes, great. Really. He and Dr. Kim told me everything about what was going on, and the c-​section scar is tiny and very neat. Afterward, my recovery was super fast and I had very little pain. In fact, I was off the narcotic pain medication within a few days because I felt so good and was exercising soon afterward! I also have varicose veins and John’s office has been very helpful in helping me find a great vascular surgeon, Dr Aquino. John is really the best and I’d highly recommend him and Dr. Kim to my pregnant friends!

John was my midwife 7 years ago when I had my daughter and I wish my Brooklyn-​born son had been delivered with John, too! I cannot say enough positive things about John. My mom was a midwife so I was quite particular in choosing my OB/​GYN care when I was pregnant.

Funny, good listener and sensitive to my personal issue! Never a dull moment with John! YOU ROCK!!!

John delivered my first child and he was so nice and calming. He even made me laugh when I was at 10 centimeters… I will always remember that experience.

I know this review is over a year past due (baby born in 2012) but I have to say that I had a wonderful experience being pregnant thanks to John! He was so great throughout my whole pregnancy and helped me keep my cool (first baby). He was very sensitive to my own personal issues that could have potentially impacted the pregnancy and if there was ever any concern he would have my little girl checked out by ultrasound at the hospital. After having a rough end to my pregnancy I ultimately had to be induced. I was so scared since my odds of a c-​section just went up. John talked with me about it and gave their stats for a c-​section after induction and it really helped ease my mind (he has a great bedside manner). About 30 hours after being induced I had my precious little girl (not by c-​section!) and could not have been happier. Having right professional help you through such an important time in your life is so important and I am so lucky I found John!!!

By far the best OBGYN I’ve ever been to. I just moved to SF from Pittsburgh, PA and picked John based off of his reviews. THEY ARE ALL RIGHT ON!!! :) He is super friendly, makes you feel at ease, and will answer all of your questions. John is an AMAZING person and I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

if i could give him ten stars i would. he delivered two of my boys and will be delivering my 3^rd in about hmm 7 months. john has wonderful bed side manner, and very attentive to your needs. He is not one of those doctors that think they know everything and you know nothing. he will listen to all of your concerns and make you feel validated.

I’ve since had my second baby with John — and he was part of the c-​section along with Dr. Kim. I think I have my facts wrong about him doing c-​sections; I think he can do them in conjunction with one of the MDs? Anyway, baby #2 was as an enjoyable experience with John as baby #1. Believe it or not– I’d actually consider baby #3 just because John makes the entire pregnancy and delivery process so incredible. And because getting pregnant again would give me the chance to see John on a regular basis again!
Seriously — this man has 13 reviews on Unilocal so far, all off them 5 stars. That is AMAZING. He is a true gift, and we are so grateful to have him be part of our lives. I’d give him 10 stars if I could. I heart John!
