The sliders were epic and caused an involuntary reaction of total joy. Nice selection of beer. Really enjoyed my lunch.

We’ll never go back! I’ve been here several times and the menu had a great selection, and the food was very good. This time the menu looked like bar food only but thought we’d still eat here…, and it was terrible. they even made terrible vodka martinis… when we mentioned the quality of the food and menu selections, the waiter even said yes it’s changed for the worst…

We came back before the 8 pm show and left after looking at the new menu. The place was a ghost town. That was our first clue. A classic mistake of removing popular items shrinking the selections and raising the prices. Can you believe they wanted to charge $ 15 for a glass of Chardonnay? The waiter said there was a new chef. So I took it to meant the owner wanted to save some $ on the chef.

Good food expensive beer — the most unfriendly bar tenders of any bar I have been to. They all gather at the end of the bar and ignore the patrons.

Good variety of food across the street from the Hilton Union Square. Loved the deviled egg appetizer. My friend had the fried chicken meal and said it was great. Some quirky items on the menu like a Fritos our appetizer. If you’re at the hotel, this is definitely a good place to stop in for dinner or drinks and appetizers.

Note: this review is not for the service. The service was just fine. Management or ownership must have changed. I’m pretty disappointed that the Southwest chicken salad was basically pre-made chicken nuggets, romaine, cherry tomatoes, and stale croutons with barely any dressing. They should have called it «chicken nuggets on lettuce». It was priced at $ 17. My crab cake Benedict was also $ 17 but at least this had fresh crab. The brunch plate was the just Benedict no sides. It was presented on a large rectangular plate with plenty of room for potatoes or any edible type of garnish of some sort… but alas… just two english muffins, crab cakes, and sauce. Never coming back. I’d rather go to John’s Grill.

Tried to order some coffee to go and they were very rude and hung up on me. I’m staying at the Serrano hotel and there is an advertisement in the room to order to go, but the guy that answered the phone barely spoke English and I couldn’t understand him. Edit: the general manager called me the next day to get more info and make things right. I have bumped my rating to 3 stars for this.

Came here for a business dinner. It was incredibly noisy. The menu was very limited. I had an upset stomach and it was hard to find items that were not fried, spicy or too heavy. The Frito pie was good and novel. My colleague ordered the cauliflower steak. It looked good but I felt it wasn’t worth the money. I had baked chicken wings which truly is an appetiser to share and I ordered the Cole slaw. It was awful. The spice didn’t work and it was dry. I couldn’t eat it. The wings were good. I wish I had felt better. I would have ordered the rabbit stew.

I am surprised and disappointed by the change in menu and it sort of ruined my experience tonight, but mostly because I wasn’t prepared for what the new menu had to offer. San Francisco seriously lacks casual American food and this place used to be just that. The two items that I could have imagined ordering were unavailable which was shocking for so early on a Monday night, but the server and chef both explained why this was the case and seemed genuinely apologetic. While this one experience was less than ideal I have had so many other experiences here that I have loved and am not ready to give up on it quite yet.

I have been at the Hilton across the street for 2 weeks and just decided to go to Jasper’s since it was close to my hotel and they have really good Moscow mules!!! That is my new favorite drink as long as it is in the copper mug!!! i stopped in two nights in a row. First night I had the duck fat fried tator tots. I have seen duck fat fried french fries on Triple D and wanted to see what the fuss was about. They were good. I had the burger and asked for it to be cooked medium and it was a little over done for me. The second night I had the chicken wings as you can see i am eating very healthy while in San Francisco. LOL I guess because of the PB&J sandwiches all week for lunch. The place has a nice vibe to it. I like sitting at the bar better than a table my server was great don’t get me wrong but it was a little more interesting sitting at the bar the bar tender was really good. I can’t remember her name but she was very friendly and helpful!!! I would go back… Check it out.

I’m not sure when it happened but Jasper’s menu has drastically changed since last I came here. My wife and I used to come regularly as a pre-theatre meal or a meal between shows. Somehow in our recent absence, Jasper’s went from delicious home cooked comfort food to a gastropub that’s overthinking, overcooking, and forgetting that simplicity can really bring something special to a menu. In an especially painful switch, Jasper’s changed from the most delicious freshly home made pretzels with beer cheese I’ve ever had to obviously frozen bar pretzels with obviously canned nacho cheese«sauce». I sent them back. Not a good start. I was really looking forward to either the Short Rib or the«J» Burger and truffle fries but the Short Rib is gone and«J» Burger has been replaced with«The Burger», a mix of brisket and chuck with a smoky flavor. The volume of jalapeños was offputting and too spicy for my tastes. The burger, ordered medium, came out well-done and tough. The old bay fries were so overseasoned that even my wife who loves salty fries couldn’t eat them. I had to ask the waiter Damon to replace them with unseasoned fries which were far more palatable and delicious. Michael, one of the managers, came by and checked on us twice. I let him know about our pretzel issue in our first encounter. He didn’t offer to take it back or replace it. Later, I let him know about my disappointment with the old bay fries and burger. Again, while he seemed apologetic, he did not have anything reassuring to say about our feedback. He didn’t offer a discount on a future visit or anything that would make me want to come back and give them another chance on another night. Menu and chef changes are obviously going to happen over time, but I’m not sure I’ll be back while this iteration remains.

Angus brisket burger, smoked Gouda, BBQ pork belly, pickled jalapeño, crispy onion. That’s all you need to know. Oh and they have Brother Thelonios on tap. Don’t tell your significant other unless they like this and your unhealthy lifestyle.

You gotta love SF: a gastropub in a hotel bar. I came here quite grungy, to be honest, at the end of a brief jog. The atmosphere is pretty casual(or at least it was on St Patty’s day) and I didn’t feel too weird grabbing a seat at the bar while in running shorts. The famous things here are the scotch egg(which wasn’t for me actually… too much fried stuff), the duck fat tater tots(which WERE for me… super rich, just perfectly executed), and the bone marrow(which was a wonderful generous portion.) I’d definitely come back.

(2.5)? I visited Jasper’s on NYE and on a few other occasions. Overall the selection of drinks isn’t huge(which is fine if the available drinks are amazing) and the service ranged from ok to super inattentive. Not a bad bar by any means but it’s more of a place to grab a quick drink on Geary, rather than a destination. I may update this review with comments on the food if I visit the place again.

Quick drop in on a Sunday, 5p for drinks. Quiet bar during that time, so had good service at the bar. Nice beer specials; not as big of a selection as Mikkeller, but good enough of a mix of interesting beers to try! Would go back to try their nibbles during happy hour!

The first time I came to Jasper’s, I was with 2 friends and we had terrible service. We had to ask for my drink 3 times before I finally got it, while my friends already had theirs. I stopped in here this past Saturday afternoon for a drink and a quick bite to eat. I sat at the bar and had better service this time around. They have happy hour on the weekends, which is nice. I had the mango wheat beer on draft that I really enjoyed. I also got their Frito pie, which hit the spot. Since my experience this time around was better, I would give Jasper’s another try.

Neat place, came here before a show at the Marine’s Memorial Theater I will say the menu was slightly adventurous for my taste — so I stuck with the burger, which was fantastic. Cooked perfectly, the onion rings were maybe my favorite part of the burger — How can a place have onion rings that amazing and not sell them on the menu! Just a burger topping? That’s how you know this place stresses quality! When the fried onion they throw on top of one sandwich is better than 90% of onion rings for sale out there haha Keep up the good work, I am sure I’ll be back sometime

The only reason this place is worthy of 5 stars is because of the bartender Roberto. He gave us excellent customer service and was very attentive to when we needed to order more food or drinks. If he had not been our bartender this place would have gotten 3 stars. I would only return on days when Roberto works — Mondays, Wednesdays, and I think Sundays. He makes reaallly good drinks(and I’m picky with my drinks). The food is here average, maybe overpriced for the quality. We actually came here for an SF Beer week event — Angel City Brewery from LA was showcasing its Pilsner and IPA. We went home with free glasses and bottle openers :) after having several drinks handcrafted for us by Roberto. He makes some bomb drinks. Ordered an Anchor Mango Wheat and Angel City Pilsner and IPA. We also had the Ychad, S and two other drinks I didn’t know the name of. Both surprise drinks made for us. We left happy :)

Pretty chill bar to stop by at if you are in the area. I don’t think its the best place to hang out at for a very long time though because the place gets packed, but if you just want a quick drink/bite before going to a show it isn’t a bad spot to stop by at.

This place is a really cool irish type pub. I got rabbit legs and waffles. AMAZING!!! The rabbit was soo tasty and the waffle was fluffy. The syrup they made was a maple syrup infused with thyme. Loved every bite of it. There was some confusion with the ordering, but manager worked it out. Come here if you would like something a little different and inventive :)

Decent food, decent beer and drinks menu, and decent service, all in a venue that may seem a bit cramped at first but has a surprising amount of nooks and crannies at which to chill out. Can’t say that much more about the place — simply decent all around, and not a bad fall-back alternative if more highly rated places on Unilocal nearby are super crowded.

The resturaunt was a little loud. Wait staff was good. The kale ceasar salad and truffle fries was on point. The meal was well worth it and I would go back.

Inventive menu that does not live up to the hype. We started with duck-fat tater tots(tasted like they were shaken straight out of the Ore-Ida bag), truffle fries(mediocre), biscuits with cheese(wiz), and bone marrow(the one winner of the night). Entrees were flavorless and uninspired: chicken pot pie, venison Wellington, game(rabbit) pie, duck confit. All were bland, unappealing and overcooked, save for the confit, which was almost inedibly salty, and the fish and chips which was actually quite good. The venison Wellington came with the promise of blackberry duxelles which was nowhere to be found, and the meat(as well as the rabbit), was well-done, tough and dry. This lack of fruit flavor was pointed out to the waiter who insisted it was«in the pastry». I reassured him it was not, and his response was a dull«Sorry.» Also problematic was a distinct lack of vegetables. Not a side order of beans, carrots, or other greenery other than entrée-size salads in sight. Water was plentiful. Service was adequate. The true saving grace of the evening was the«Basic Drank,» a warm-spiced concoction, frothy with egg white and pumpkin flavor. No one in our party of nine expressed a desire to return. Perhaps this was partially due to our being seated in an echo chamber.

I almost never judge visiting a restaurant based on service alone because I am here to try the food first, their customer service is second. That being said, I have never seen such bad service. I saw two different groups sit down and a waiter never came. so they left. Another guy walking around with a menu looking to place his poor order. I mean it was comical. We were visiting during the fancy food show staying at the Serrano hotel so my advice to them is step your game up at least during the food show weekend. My food was not bad but my boyfriend waited for so long for his pancakes and side of sausage which he said were super greasy. I Unilocaled this one ahead of time so we kind of knew what would happen here.

Food was decent, fresh. Lower star rating is for inattentive staff– perhaps just short on staff? Slow to ring up bill, unclear where to sit as a section roped off and no staff around(literally MIA) for first 2min when we walked in. Menu looked decent enough that I may come back. A unique feature is that there is varied seating options– bar stools, hi tops, etc.

Where do I begin, I’ve never been here and assumed the poor reviews must have been one off situations. However I ordered the J burger and I was very disappointed. The pork belly on the burger was burnt. The waiter called it smoked, I have had smoked pork belly and I know what it should taste like. He asked if he could get me another one without the pork belly. When I asked why he said they make it in the morning. I thought ok so if someone doesn’t make it right everyone has to deal with burnt pork belly all day. What a disgrace. If you want to charge a premium food you should make sure it’s there as far as quality. I wouldn’t pay more than 8 $ for that burger. When they remade my burger without the pork belly I tasted nothing but salt. My girlfriend ordered the pot pie and it was 3 out of 5. Again not worth the price it comes with. The worst part is their lackluster person in front of house. Just because you’re going to have a trendy restaurant it doesn’t mean you don’t have to be friendly. We stood there for two minutes and no one greeted us or explained where to go. We had to find a waiter and asked if we were to seat ourselves? Our waiter was very friendly which is great considering the front of the restaurant was smug and unwelcoming. The appetizers were good(poutine fries/tater tots)

The menu keeps evolving. Tonight some interesting options. Passed up the foie gras and biscuits for the burger loaded with onion rings pork belly jalapeño peppers. Cooked perfect. With crispy thick cut fries. It seems like the prices have picked up too. Wines mostly $ 11+. The place was hopping.

How does one begin the review I’m about to submit… My girls and I were looking for a place to enjoy and celebrate our short weekend trip to the city. We don’t get to see each other often, and I remember the first time I came to Jaspers 2 years ago I told myself to come back b/c the food was delish. This time around was the complete opposite. Our waitress seemed fine, removed but not outwardly rude. We ordered 2 burgers, fish and chips and the foie gras biscuits & gravy and some moscow mules. — Moscow Mules: Waste of money, not refreshing, and mostly just ginger beer. — Food: Decent, until my fried pulled a hair out of her mouth with clumps of biscuit and gravy dangling from the end. It was blonde. We’re all Asian with black/brown hair. The fish and chips were also undercooked. — Fast forward one hour later: we are taking turns in and out of our hotel bathroom, experiencing either diarrhea or vomit. We aren’t sure what got us all sick, as we all had different things and experienced a variety of stomach issues. But there was one common denominator — we all at at Jaspers. Conclusion: They must have switched ownership, management, chefs, etc. Our experience was super unfortunate, hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else. Thanks for a great last night in SF! :/

I will not be coming here again. Atmosphere: My friends and I came here because we couldn’t get into Bourban and Branch and I passed this on my way there. The setup/décor is pretty cool and it looked like it would be a nice bar. It was empty, but I thought it was just because it was early/in the Tenderloin, so not a great area where people want to hang out. Drinks: We got a red blend, that was pretty good, but the food was so bad that it did not make up for it. Food: We got the chaurcuterie platter and a side of french fries– both were EW. The Chauracuterie board had two cheeses, both which were not very good. There were two meats, salami and mortadella. We did not eat the mortadella because it’s gross. The manager came over when we were eating to ask how our meal was, and we said it was only okay, and I mentioned we really didn’t like the mortadella. Instead of saying«oh, i’m so sorry, is there anything else I could get you» he said«really? It’s like bologna with pistachios.» and I said«i know, but we don’t like bologna. Do you have any prosciutto?» and he said«no, we don’t» but didn’t offer to get us more salami. Then he walked away… By no means was it required for him to offer us another option, but it would have been noteworthy and in this day and age, expected, for the price we were paying, that he would offer us something else when we were completely dissastisifed.(1⁄5) Also, the french fries were NOT good. Super boring and not that crispy or flavorful(1⁄5). The waitstaff was friendly and the wine was good, but I could go to another restaurant and get the same wine for the same price AND good food. Will not be coming here again, and will never recommend it to anyone.

I teetered between 3 and 4 stars here. I had some preconceived notions that Jasper’s would be too touristy for my liking. It sits on the perimeter of Union Square so a lot of folks touring around the area stop in. BUT, there was much to appreciate about Jasper’s including: — Spacious, clean bar area. Ideal for watching a game or just having dinner /drinks — Attentive staff — Unilocal check-in offer(!) — Decent HH prices and food portions Food was ok, nothing memorable but tasty enough. We tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup, fries(free w/check-in) and a single slider. Paired with a few happy hour glasses of wine and beer, it was all we really wanted! I’ve heard good things about their cocktail lists, so wouldn’t hesitate to come back if an opp presented itself.

This was my first time at Jasper’s and we did not have any food, just beer. So in a way this review may be incomplete, but as the setting and atmosphere go, there was nothing that made me enjoy my beer any less. To the contrary, I enjoyed the open space they have up front. It is a good spot to meet a few friends and have a few cold ones. I noticed many folks with European accents. I don’t know of that was just a coincidence or it is a favorite of the visitors from the other side of the pond!

Two of us had dinner on a Tuesday night. What a disappointment. True, Unilocal told me it wasn’t great. The reviews are a mix of people that enjoy their cocktails and people that actually want to eat. Let me lead with this. I spent the last 10 hours up with what I can only describe as food poisoning. Epic fail. Furthermore, the menu was pretty disappointing. We started with the pretzels. They weren’t pretzels but crescent rolls wrapped in twisty shapes. It was one of the cheapest things we had at $ 8. I had one of the burgers. Yes, it was cooked to my liking. Yes, it was ok. It had toooo much blue cheese on it and that was off putting. It came with a side salad of field green with balsamic. Fine. But not for $ 18. My date had the Mac and cheese. It was the tiniest bowl I’ve ever seen. When asked if he wanted bacon(of course he did), they presented it with a single slice draped over the top. Something like $ 20 I had a glass of wine for $ 14. The wine list was average at best and for $ 12 or more per glass, a big rip off. The server was friendly and I liked her. But I feel bad for her because I will never eat there again and neither should you.

First off, this place has excellent friendly service and the atmosphere is clean and hipster. Unfortunately the food is a little lacking. From best to worst: Crispy piggy: Deep fried chunks of fatty pork shoulder that were nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It came with a nice doing sauce that had mustard seeds that had less of a spicy kick than expected Mac n cheese with bacon: thank goodness we decided to upgrade to the bacon one by suggestion of our server, because without the bacon it would have been an extremely bland boring mac n cheese Braised short rib: the meat was extremely tender and there was good texture on the mashed potatoes as well. unfortunately the flavor was non-existent. the only thing i tasted was the slight tomato garnish. even the hot pick sauce on the side had no flavor. overall, a restaurant with cool ambience and good cooking technique, however, the flavors are underwhelmingly bland.

This was supposed to be quick bite before our real lunch… haha yep fatty pig here! Anyways, the place was pretty quiet when my friends and I attended on a Saturday morning. I guess SF folks start a little slow but then again bar food is probably not what they’re looking for. In any case, we had to eat light even though my buddy still decided to order the Chicken and Waffles. My other buddies ordered the Sun Dried Tomato Caesar, Granola Parfait, and I went for the Jasper Breakfast Sliders. Service was oddly slow but we got our stuff eventually. My friend really didn’t care for her salad and how overpriced it was; sad. I didn’t try the chicken but the waffles I thought were dry and crumbled, while the Siracha Syrup was cool idea. The granola parfait was really good; crunchy granola topped with smooth greek yogurt and fruits; however in the end I could have made it! My sliders were probably the best of the day I think. In a Brioche bun; angus beef, bleu cheese, bacon-onion relish, frisee, and a fried egg. Crunchy and savory while allowing the over-easy cooked egg to mellow out the taste. Nice start to my eating escapade of a day! — Enjoy!

Attention Unilocalers, there’s a check in offer for a free appetizer when you buy alcohol. Since I don’t drink, it worked out perfectly for my friends that do. Before I get started, this place has a hip, lounge-y feel. It’s spacious and while there are lots of people inside, it doesn’t get so loud that you feel like you have to yell in someone’s ear just to talk to them. Also, the bathrooms are super clean and I always have to give brownie points for that. The bartenders were all friendly and attentive. When we wanted to transition into the dining room area from the bar, the hostess made it easy for us by walking over to the to let us know. Here’s a breakdown: *Jasper Fries $ 10(which we got free because of the Unilocal Check in offer): sweet and regular fries, aged cheddar cheese, sliced serrano peppers, chipotle aioli. This dish was big enough to share between 2 – 3 people depending on how hungry you are. The fries are crisp and tasty mixed with the shredded cheddar cheese. The aioli was perfect– you could almost taste the mayo mixed in with the other spices and the serrano peppers gave it that hotness which I love. *Fried Green Avocados $ 8: hass avocados, tempura, pepper aioli. Chopped avocados dipped in batter, then fried. They almost look like tempura. Squeezed with lime and dipped in the pepper aioli, these were delicious. Between these two appetizers shared between two people, there was no room for an actual entrée. We were completely satisfied and full. Except for dessert. While I don’t have the exact name of the dessert, it was one that was suggested by our server. It was a rich peanut butter mousse sandwiched between chocolate cake and a scoop of ice cream on the side. If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I have the biggest sweet tooth. I just could not get into this one as the peanut butter was a tad too rich and slightly salty. The chocolate cake did not temper the richness of the peanut butter and the best thing about this was the small scoop of ice cream on the side. Note to self: Do not get the peanut butter dessert.
