Iris Hair Design

I’ve been going to Iris for 7 years now. I currently live in the Netherlands, but when I come back each year to SF I try to get an appointment with her. Her haircuts last forever and grow out amazingly well and my color is always amazing.
I agree with one fellow reviewer that it does take a while for the hair color and cut to be completed, but I will gladly spend a bit of extra time in the chair than pay good money for a hair cut that only looks good the first day. If you are still looking for a stylist in SF definitely give Iris a try. You will not be sorry and you will likely also love her Puerto Rican flair and beautiful spirit.

Iris is a fun-​loving free spirit who makes the whole haircut experience that much better. She does a great of giving you exactly what you want or makes great suggestions for what she thinks is good for you. Either way, the result is always fabulous. Highly recommended.

Wash, haircut, and blowdry took 1 and a quarter hours approx
Haircut consisted of pulling my hair back into a pony-​tail with her hands, and cutting it off, «this way, your hair will be even length on both sides» or something like that.
No, my layers were shorter in the back than towards my face. Even after fixing up my layers after this ponytail move, my cut was still uneven. The layers on my right side where shorter than my left side, and feathered outwards, while my left side was smoother and didn’t look choppy.
Iris is a very nice and personable lady. As expected of most hair stylists, she did a good job blowdrying (it masked my bad haircut for the 1^st day, and my hair looked good that day)
Summary: the service was not worth the $ 50 and 1+ hour of my time.

I heart Ed! I first found him at Mes Amis salon, which is a few doors down from his new location at Iris. His new salon is a breathe of fresh air from the stuffy and crowded salons common in San Francisco. I normally come in after work and I’m immediately relaxed and chatting with Ed (Bring up your love of Liza Minelli and Barbara Striesand). He can put on your favorite tunes and you will feel like a princess.
He listens to your suggestions and cuts a flawless head of hair. My hair has a mind of its own and normally flies in all directions. But he even knows how to layer and cut correctly so that it stays where I want it to stay– Didn’t even realize a good stylist could do that till going to Ed! He put a gloss tint in my hair and it was the best suggestion. I just needed a little ‘pick me up’ with my color and instead of dying it, he put this gloss tint that has made my hair look like a shampoo ad!
Also, his blow drying skills are legendary! Wish he could come to my house every morning before work! I normally wash my hair every day, but after he styles it, I could last a few days with an impeccable do.
I would hands down suggest Ed and won’t be going to another stylist while living in beautiful San Francisco. He is so personable and always answers my calls and accommodates my schedule.

No one but Iris touches my hair. And, everywhere I go people tell me my hair is Beautiful! Not only is she a great hair designer, she is a delightful woman and fun to be around. She is magical!

Iris is a wonderful, fun-​loving free spirit and I am just delighted to have met her! Iris has been coming to my Zumba classes for months and finally convinced me that I needed a hair cut (yes, I can be lazy about my hair upkeep). But it was just a pleasure to sit back and let Iris work her magic on my mane. And how can you resist the latin rhythms?

I worked with Deirdre Sue, and I didn’t want to stop touching my hair. After a slew of bad box dyes, I turned to Deirdre for help. I couldn’t quite articulate what I wanted, but she knew what to ask to find out what look I was going for. An hour and a half later, I walk out of the salon with «Real Housewives of New York Hair». I’m not sure exactly what that means, but it cant be bad (They didn’t say New Jersey). It would make sense that my hair would look screen worthy-​considering Dierdre trained with the best shears in Hollywood. The best way to reach her is through her email–

I came across Iris 6 years ago when I was living in the city and desperate to find someone who knew how to cut curly hair. I decided to make an appt. at a hip salon in the same neighborhood, thinking paying a lot of money would give me the results I’ve always wanted the last 24 yrs. After arriving and realizing they over-​booked and were going to set me up with a training assistant I walked out, down the street and into Iris’ hands.
She took me in and ever since, I go to her religiously. Now I live in Dublin (45 min away) and still go to her… because her prices are good and as your hair grows it still holds it shape. I’ve had all kinds of hairstyle from short to long. How she cuts her hair leaves my hair looking healthy and never frizzie. My past hairdressers would never cut the ends right, and not matter how much product I used, I still would have frizzie hair.
On top of this, she is a great person to talk to while you’re in her chair. She takes her work seriously but not herself, which is why I think she is so great at what she does. It’s not a pretentious salon. I love her Latin music she plays.

I have been going to Iris for over 5 years — and no one cuts and colors my hair better than she does! I currently live in LA but always make an appt. with her when I come up to SF (which conveniently is about every 2 months). She is very knowledgeable about color and knows what compliments your skin tone. It’s also very important to her that you like the end result — and she goes out of her way to make it so. She is also incredibly outgoing and fun — you can’t help but be uplifted by her spirit. I highly recommend Iris for her expertise, affordable prices and fantastic service.
