H&R Block

I went here last year, and got nothing but an expensive run around. I had to do most of the tax prep myself, got called in 3 different times, and got charged over $ 600.00 for approximately 2 hours of total work. I ended up owing close to $ 2000.00, which is ludicrous, and when I had my taxes redone by another accountant, got money back instead. The inexperienced accountant told me I should get a «real job» and then I wouldn’t have to worry about so many tax forms. RUDE. Inefficient. Incompetent. And way too «taxed».

Raymond Forcier is a fabulous man! He took time to explain everything to us and was very patient with my questions. I dont think people work like him these days with such diligence, care, and passion. We are so lucky to have found him and I wish I could reach his top management to explain how grateful we are that he helped us! 10 stars for Raymond!

Be aware of what you are getting into.
I called in because I though I might need a tax professional this year. Normally I do my stuff online but I knew I would have to owe soooooo ya.
After describing my circumstances, the lady that answered the phone said I definitely should schedule time with a tax professional because blah blah blah. Sweet.
I go in and the dude, while polite, basically does 15 minutes of data entry that I normally do on my own. I even called him out on not doing anything other than what people do online with free software. He said «well its the piece of mind» Sure. But your «piece of mind» cost me 300 bucks for 15 minutes of work. That makes you a $ 900 an hour employee at that rate. And unless I’m mistaken, my taxes weren’t filed by Johnny Cochran.
I tried to reach out to corporate about how absurd my experience was but never heard back.
Came out pissed off at them and myself. Felt scammed.

Had an appointment there today for a review of my 2013 tax filing. I prepare my taxes myself using TurboTax but this year wanted the opinion of a tax professional as I unexpectedly owe a few thousand to both the federal and the state (ouch!). I walked by this location the other day and inquired as to how much such a review would cost. I was told it was free with their Second Review promotion and the receptionist pointed out the promotion on a large sign. Very pleased, I made an appointment for today and met with Mr. Luis Perez Olivarez. Rarely have I been treated so rudely and with so little respect. After less than a minute he told me he could not help me and told me I needed to leave. Confused, I returned to the receptionist and explained what had happened. She asked me to wait for a few minutes and about four minutes later told me Mr. Perez Olivarez could now help me. I returned to him, and asked what had changed in the past five minutes. He replied «I was told I had to help you.» That certainly did not instill any confidence in me. He took a very quick look at my folder with my printed prepared return and all supporting documentation and then said «No. I cannot help you. This will take at least an hour. Will you pay? No, of course not. You want something for nothing. You need to leave now.» and pointed to the front door. He did not pause after his question to provide me the courtesy to reply, nor offered to tell me how much it would cost. I told him I was willing to pay but before we discussed fees asked if he could explain the promotion I was told about and pointed to the sign. He simply responded «You need to leave now.» The entire interaction took less than two minutes. I explained what happened to the receptionist as I walked out. She asked me to stay but I had enough mistreatment for the day and followed Mr. Perez Olivarez’ direction and left. I will go to Liberty Tax for $ 99 for a review. I hope my experience there is better; it could hardly be worse.

Highly not recommended. The consultant was naïve. He didn’t not have any knowledge of tax and accounting whatsoever. I had to correct him a couple of times. Every now and then he would go to some other consultant for help. Disappointed.

Barbara Johnson is AMAZING! Honest, thorough tax advise combined with excellent customer service. It was a pleasure working with her. I would turn to her again in a heart beat with any of my tax prepare issues or questions.

I have to tell you Barbara Johnson is a wonderful H & R Block Agent. I called the office because I needed to have them look my taxes over. She answered the phone on the first ring. I explained my issues with my taxes, and she answered some of my questions. Because I didn’t want to give my SS over the phone, I wanted to go in and show her. She scheduled me in her busy schedule the next day, and she was able to see shortly after I walked in on this rainy day. She was just as lovely over the phone as she is in person.

Horrible experience here. Went to some middle–
aged loser named Charlie who talked all about
his house in Mill Valley and get this— made fun
of how little money I make! I am a teacher and
I work in a restaurant. Felt completely dismissed
by this outright snob who is terrible at his job.
Do NOT use this guy unless you want a passive-​aggressive
asshole who’ll do his best to make YOU feel bad.

This review is for Barbara Johnson. She is great. She covered everything so thoroughly that when she asked if I had any questions I really did not. But, I still appreciate that she made sure I wasn’t left with any unanswered questions. She went through everything slowly and calmly, so I didn’t feel like she was trying to rush through everything. I would definitely recommend her.

I went to Barbara Johnson based on the reviews here on Unilocal and I could not have been happier. Not only was Barbara a joy to talk to, but she also went to lengths to save me as much money as possible. The H&R Block fee was steep, but she explained everything and even lamented that she could not save me more. :) I mentioned that she had a burgeoning fan club on Unilocal and she seemed very pleased to hear it. I’ve done my taxes on my own before, but they were a bit more complicated this year so I decided to look into other options. I booked an appointment with Barbara Johnson based on Ryan G’s recommendation and was quite a happy customer.
Barbara was really nice, and went out of her way to make sure I was well taken care of. I needed to file an amended return for last year and she took care of it right then and there so all I needed to do was mail in the form.
You can tell she’s been doing this for years, and I felt completely comfortable as her client.

I would give it a 5 if it were located elsewhere. I only come to this one because of my taxman who has been helping me here at this facility for over close to 6 years now. He is always knowledgeable and friendly and remembers your name and family as well. It’s like visiting a friend you’ve not seen over a year. Aside from doing my taxes he always manage to try to catch up with what has happened with myself and with my family since our last meeting. I come here exclusively for him, if he were to go somewhere else,. I would probably follow him or will force to do my taxes on my own with TURBOTAX.arrrggghhh. Thank you Mang Efren!!!

I went into H&R Block because my taxes were complicated enough (or so I thought) that I wanted someone to do them for me this year. Normally I do my own online; but, due to freelance work and unemployment insurance I figured I might need some help.
As it turns out: I would be getting less back in a refund for 2008 than it would cost to have Juanita at H&R Block do my return for me. And, I’m broke so I don’t want that. Juanita was kind enough to estimate that for me and to give me practical advice/​a comprehensive list of the schedules I need to do my own taxes this year w/​out charging me for the consultation.
She also looked at my 2007 taxes and told me about an earned income credit I could retroactively apply for and found some additional money I should have gotten back.
I was impressed with the customer service at this H&R Block. I will be back when I either am flush with cash and to lazy to prepare my own return; or, when my return will be more than the cost of having it prepared. Simply because of the customer service.

I have always had an accountant do my taxes as they can get pretty complicated with my line of work. This year, my taxes were extra complicated and I needed someone special who knew the ins and outs of taxes to help me. I decided to go to H & R Block to see what they had to say and if they could help me out. I made an appointment with Barbara Johnson and it was the best financial decision I made all year.
Barbara took care of my taxes and found thousands of dollars of deductions I qualified for. She was amazing. Aside from her knowledge of finance, she was an absolute joy to sit and talk with — it is obvious that I have made a new friend.
The office space was clean and well kept, everyone that worked there was very nice, and I will absolutely go back and see Barbara for every question, filling, and tax issue in the future. I recommend Barbara Johnson and this H & R Block very highly. Nervous about filing? For $ 30 they guarantee your filing so it cannot bite you later if someone made a mistake. Go see Barbara. She saved me tons of money!
