This is a tiny place with good food. The fact that it is small makes it seem like one of those SF hole-in-the-walls which is a good thing. The staff is really nice and I got a great Unilocal deal there!

Wow. I would love to give this place a review based on the food. But I can’t because it never showed up. We finally cancelled(through Seamless as the restaurant wouldn’t answer) over two and a half hours after we ordered. No apology, no offer to make it up to us. Ridiculous.

Cheap Japanese fast-food. This place keeps changing ownership/names but the food has still been mediocre. I got a salmon teriyaki bowl for about $ 5, which is all I had in cash. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Their rolls look interesting, but I’d rather stay with items that are cooked all the way through.

This is about the 4th sushi establishment that has moved into this exact location over the past few years, and this one is by far best. I get takeout here at least 2 times a week for lunch. Yes, the street is a bit sketchy and the establishment may be small but if you’re a local please check it out, at least for takeout. They did great sprucing up the décor inside, and the quality of the food is high. Their lunch specials are delicious, great portions, and the prices can’t be beat. Make sure to pick up the ever revolving lunch special menu, as it contains numerous gourmet and bento items not found in their regularly printed menu or online. I had the carry out special today of the sashimi bowl, and I was so happy. It had everything. The fish was fresh, the mixture was generous(salmon, yellowtail, tuna, eel, tobiko), and the rice underneath was speckled with spicy wasabi and super yummy ponzu. All for less than $ 8!!! The lovely hostess who takes my order each time is a sweetie, too. Always smiling, always remembering who I am. One time I only ordered miso soup to go, and she said she wanted me to have more sustenance so she threw in one of their fresh salads for free! This place is a keeper, and I hope it stays in business for a very long time!

It’s not very often that I will go to a place two days in a row and order the same lunch item to go, but I did come here Wednesday and yesterday for the Fuji combo rice bowl. The price: $ 8.63(tax included). The Fuji combo rice bowl consists of chicken karage(2 pcs), chicken gyoza(2 pcs), shrimp tempura, potato croquette(Kevin C put 3 pcs), yako tori(2 pcs), rice, some spring mix salad, tangy sauce and spicy aioli. Miso soup is included with the meal. Not knowing what yako tori was, I headed back to the office to look at their lunch menu. Translation from Japanese to English… octopus ball. OMG, do I really want to eat an octopus ball? No offense to my women friends, but my mind was in the gutter and all I could ask myself — does an octopus have balls(genitals) or what? Do I really want to suck on them and/or eat them? I had a pair of them in my rice bowl.(I called up my husband to ask him about octopus balls. He wasn’t aware that octopus had them.) I couldn’t sit in my cubicle, eating my lunch and then bust out laughing over those things. My co-workers probably would tell me…“uh, you need to retire and take your insanity elsewhere.”…LMAO. The yako tori were just octopus appetizer shaped like a round ball. Just to think that I had a dirty mind in thinking it was something else. Am I ashamed for having my mind in the gutter? Nope. Am I laughing heartily just writing this review? Yep… bwa, ha, ha, ha!!!

This mom and pop small place commands a loyal local following. At lunch, their takeout was going off the hook. Clearly the only 2 owners are overwhelmed with their success. They took ownership from old Fuji not too long ago. Food is yummy(innovative, not same Japanese food found everywhere, but they have traditional stuff too). Portions are small, their sushi is fresh! I personally think their cooked food is superior. But they do have many fresh fish outside the standard fare. Kevin(owner and chef) is French chef trained… and it shows! Prices and quality is deserving of a bistro upper quality category in a bad neigborhood. Due to vicinity, lots of lawyers, paralegals seems to love this place. Think the owners Judy and Kev has a hit on their hands… as I’ve been to several of these that do eventually do find their stardom. Wish other Unilocaler be fair and not such an arse/jerks when seeing a real gem as it is. Rough diamond in a coal mine… with age and polish this place can sparkle. Like all mom and pop shopes they struggle to make ends meet.

I purchased a Groupon deal three months ago and have been attempting to use it but their hours are not consistent. Today, I finally place an order and was called after I already left to pick it up. I can only use the deal on Sundays although this stipulation isn’t mentioned anywhere on the voucher. I’ve tried to dine in many of Sundays but they haven’t been open so I call shenanigans!

Glad I read Andy H’s review below. I was going to go and use my Groupon but after reading Andy’s review I decided to give them a call. Sure enough, they now refuse to take the Groupon and suggested that I ask for my money back. Why agree to participate in this promotion if they are not ready to fulfill it? Whatever bad press comes from it is probably deserved. Now I don’t even wish to try the place!

Working 2 blocks away makes this place the perfect lunch hour meal. Lunch speacials are given and the salad that comes with your meal is prepared very nicely. It’s not the typical soup and salad that you would get from a sushi establishment. note: It could get pretty busy over there. If you are taking it togo, I would order it over the phone. Area is sketchy, but harmless.

I was EXTREMELY skeptical about eating here for lunch. My friend said please and I honestly cannot say no to her. Next time though, I will stand my ground firmly.(Sorry J-dub, it isn’t happening again! SoL!) Oh man I wish I didn’t come here for lunch. The meal started off with some of your standard instant miso soup but they have thinly sliced shitake mushrooms and fried tofu in it. Nice touch. This I enjoyed, and it got my hopes up. *sigh* Unilocal photos are so misleading. I had a sake don, which is salmon sashimi over sushi rice. They have it on their menu as «sakae don» though. The fish is cut poorly and extremely thin. My salmon was cut like prosciutto. In what anorexic world is THIS okay? Not mine that is for sure. I was so hungry I kept eating the rice. I’ve never had blander sushi rice, never. I kept eating it with low sodium soy sauce. Terrible. My friend didn’t like any of the rolls. She also said the rice was bland, it was killing her and she told me it was a good thing I finished my miso soup. We both left hungry… But now I’m sitting here shaking in my chair because I threw up an hour after lunch. Oh and my friend ran to the bathroom with a stomach ache. $ 11.95 for possible food poisoning? ughh. I’ve had better chirashi off of a food truck. NEVERAGAIN.

I stumbled into this place with 2 friends after the Mexican place up the street dropped meat into the ‘veggie’ beans while we were waiting to order. What an oasis in the Tenderloin! The server and chef were very kind and funny. We felt like we were guests in their home. One person in our group was allergic to lobster, and they were extra careful to accomodate him with sushi choices. We started with Miso soup and then ordered Tofu Tempura and Dynamite. It was so good, that we suggested they call it Nitro. The chef delivered a Double Dynamite that was somehow even better than the first! We had some edamame and it happened to be my birthday, so I was surprised with Mochi Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. An amazing close to the dinner. I highly suggest Fuji for pre-game late night dinner.

I Love Love this place. A little to hard to find, but it sure worth it! This first time I went thereI loved it from the start. Chef Kevin is very creative. His wife, the server is very gracious. This is hands down«The Best Shushi» in town. Not too expensive either. Plus a real bonus was the free wifi! You gotta try it…

I came here about a week ago for late lunch. Dinch? Lunner. Anyway, I was craving a bento box and Fuji Sushi killed it. Two items for under $ 8? Insane. I had the chicken kaarage and cooked salmon. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a flavorful dipping sauce. Yum. The salmon on the other hand was barely warm and plain. Not much to write about there. Very rarely can one go into a sushi shop without eating more than expected, and this was not one of those instances. I ended up sharing three rolls and having ice cream. hah! The jalapeño crab roll is awesome; slices of jalapeño on top of a fried shrimp roll. My sisters and I loved it. Recommended for those who love spicy foods. There was a salmon roll with thin lemon slices on top of it. I think it was the«Giants» roll, named after the baseball team. I THINK. I forget what it was called, but I didn’t forget how it tasted. Amazingly good. Try it. The Mango ice cream was icy and unloved. ]: The green tea was the good kind. with brown rice? Had to hobble out, due to being too full.

You must eat here. If you work in the Tenderloin, this is a great place. Let me put this into perspective. They have hot dishes and sushi. It’s about as authentic as you could expect at this price point. High quality. Generous quantities. And it’s in the Tenderloin. If you don’t know, this is the part of San Francisco with the highest level of open air drug dealing. It’s safe enough, but it’s gritty and real. UC Hastings is nearby, as is City Hall, the Asian Art Museum, the US District Court, the main library, and quite a few institutions. There are few great dining choices. So for the Tenderloin, there is absolutely no doubt this place warrants five stars. I want to ensure credibility. Would I drive across town to eat here? No. Would I walk a few blocks. Absolutely. It will not be life-changing, but it will be one of those places you could become a regular. If you are in the Tenderloin, you know we have to support these businesses. The neighborhood is changing for the better. But it likely always will be an urban experience(high presence of SRO housing, service agencies). Now, negatives. It’s a husband and wife or brother and sister or two people with a close relationship. That seems to be it. They are the whole place. So when one of them runs out to deliver food, that slows down everything. Let me conclude with this. I not only did not use my coupon deal(I ate alone to test the place, and the amount was a quarter of the voucher) — I gave them a 100% tip.

I found this place from a Groupon. And dragged my friend Malou with me. Before you go. I suggest you print your own menu . LOL. Or write it down and order when you get there from your list. They are«under construction» and seems to be sharing 1 menu with the 4 tables they have available. Luckily there was just 2 tables so we didn’t have to wait that long to see the menu. I wish I ordered something to go just so I can see the to go boxes they give that sound so cool from Carol C’s reviews. The sashimi salad was pretty good. I really like the dressing. I agree the rolls were slightly undersized for what I am used to for 12.95 a roll. I would have liked to order stuff from the menu I saw online rather than the one they had in the restaurant. I’m not a feng shui freak or nothing but my mom said it is never good to have the cash register right next to the front entrance. Because money flows out the door. And from the looks of it, they need as much money as they can. Good luck with your restaurant. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. Thank you though.

Return visit. Second time here, but this time I didn’t get a to-go order and ate at the restaurant with 3 other co-workers. The service was excellent. You can tell that these folks care about their business and improving it. My co-workers have eaten here a number of times, so the waitress/owner(?) greeted us with a warm welcome. The waitress offered us another serving of miso soup and brought us additional fresh fruit at the end of our meal! Two of my co-workers tried the bento lunch special with the tako yaki, which is basically a fried squid/octopus ball. We weren’t sure what tako yaki was, so the waitress encouraged them to try it, and if they did not like it, she could always make something else. I thought that was very hospitable of her. My co-workers weren’t in love with their dish, but the waitress offered to bring them some spicy mayo as a dipping sauce, and actually considered serving the spicy mayo as a condiment with the fried balls all the time in the future. This small business is still testing out its menu and genuinely appreciates the feedback, which I think is fantastic. As for me, I got the chicken teriyaki bento and rock and roll(eel and avocado roll) which I liked wayyy more than the spicy tuna roll I got last time. The chicken was a little dry and had a tad too much pepper in it, but overall it was a good meal. The Fuji Special Rolls sound like interesting concoctions with equally interesting names. I think I will try the«Walnut Prawn Revolution» next time: «prawn tempura, walnut and mango, avocado, topped with honey,» and I will be sure to let you Unilocalers! know if it’s a hit or miss. Overall, I stand by my previous review: 1.) Excellent and friendly service 2.) Japanese food for a value 3.) This small business is still testing out the waters and adjusting its business as needed.

Cool story, Carol C. You’ve met the owner, become a regular, and developed a relationship with him. That definitely adds credibility to your review. How unbiased of a review you must have written, yeah? Think it over. I addressed the owners of Manor West as Mr. West in my other review. It’s what I do for shits and giggles, but you assumed I assumed. You also«speculate» my interpretation of a king salmon steak size. Your speculation sounds a lot like an assumption to me. And you know what they say about assumptions… I listed both opinions and facts. The facts are in my pictures. Not quite sure what else I can offer. I don’t know what your po po rant is all about. Having a delivery guy ring my doorbell 3 times also isn’t as bad as having shit smeared on my face by a midget clown. A murderer also isn’t as bad as a serial killer. What’s your point? Why does it matter how much soup leaked into a bag? I didn’t realize there was a quantifiable amount to substantiate a negative review. What’s the standard rate nowadays anyways? Thanks for listing out the King Salmon Dinner items, actually. Because I didn’t notice they forgot our Salmon Kama. There goes strike 4. You’re digging deep if you need to bring up the quality of napkins. Just sayin. No need to save the day here, Super Woman. I offered an unbiased and honest, albeit harsh, review. There are no incentives for me to see this business fail. It is what it is.

Thoroughly enjoyed the lunch combo bento box — came with the entrée of my choice(salmon), rice, salad, california roll, miso soup, and more salad for $ 8.99. REALLY good!!! The salmon was perfect and a little crispy on the bottom. The staff was friendly. Good place for a quick bite to go.

Disgusting! Ordered on grubhub and it arrived over an hour late. The driver was rude and the food was bad. The restaurant would not answer when I called to complain so I had to call grubhub, who were friendly and useful. My food arrived melted and cold. My tuna tartare was warm when it arrived, obviously it had been sitting in the car the whole time. Refused to eat it. Big waste of money, will not order from here again!

ordered delivery by Grubhub, came within ½ hour. Fish is pretty fresh and prices are ok. Some of the set are quite expensive. I liked that they have many choices for sashimi and nigiri, some odd ones I’ve rarely seen, like trout and bass. Food was pretty good.
