Expert Cut

This my first Unilocal review, and I can’t think of someone who better deserves a positive rating than John! I called John about 20 minutes before I biked down from my house to his salon, and only had to wait about ten minutes before he started to cut my hair. As I waited, I got to play with and pet his incredibly sweet black lab, Lucy!
My haircut went really well, and John was very attentive to what I wanted to get done — a trim with some layers, and to bring my bangs back. He did just that, and my hair feels so much lighter and healthier — thanks, John!
I don’t get my hair cut too often because I find that it’s very expensive, and I don’t have a «regular» person to go to. Now, I definitely how have a local place that I will continue to frequent when my hair feels like it needs a healthy upgrade. Thanks, John!

Needed a haircut desperately and was in the area and randomly decided to try it out. The guy was nice. The cut was a bit too quick. snip snip snip. Less than 10 minutes and i was out the door. Fastest haircut i had in my life. Was hoping for a little bit more attention and wished he complied to my request on how i wanted it. Not bad, but didn’t deliver quite what i asked for.

One of the better haircut experiences I’ve had. Very satisfied with my haircut, i didn’t have to wait at all, and affordable as well. I will definitely be coming back here next time.

I just got my haircut from John — what can I say — it’s all true. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over six years and John has been a part of the community on La Playa for much longer. Simple, experienced, and all around nice guy. Beats going to Supercuts!

Wow in a good way! I was a Tuesday afternoon walk-​in. I hadn’t had my long hair cut in six months except the occasional trim I give my bangs with kitchen shears (not kidding). I have a pretty straightforward long-​layer cut and he nailed it after a very short conversation about what I wanted, bangs included. I came in with my hair washed and still wet, and fifteen minutes later I walked out with my hair still damp, freshly cut, and feeling healthy again. And to top it off? Only 18 $!!! If you’re looking for a friendly, no frills hair cut I cannot recommend this guy enough!
I also bought some shampoo and conditioner for a very reasonable price at his recommendation, I’ll update on that after I use it.

I was looking to get a haircut the other day and stumbled across this place on my way to training. John is a super nice guy and has been there for thirty something years. He cuts a good head of hair and is a good conversationalist, which I believe is imperative for a barber.

So not surprised to see a 5-​star rating, and just saw that today! Didn’t even think to Unilocal it. Picked this place at random yesterday afternoon 12÷24÷14, well let’s just say a deliberate hack job I did on my previously long 18″ hair, and hacked it off is what I did! It looked like Edward Scissorhands had taken several hits of acid while under the influence of a heavy dose of OxyContin, was blindfolded and beaten, and seizing while cutting it.
Yeah, that bad! So I wanted a random place, somewhere I could get what was left in a presentable fashion and colored. I’d even suggested to John to shave it all off yet he insisted that wasn’t necessary. OMG! This guy performed a frikken miracle both with the styling and coloring and stayed an additional hour to clean up the mess I made.
I am serious this guy is THE MAN!!! Not only brilliant at his craft, but a genuinely warm and engaging person also. Had Christmas with my family and not knowing about the hack job, oohed and awwwed over his craftsmanship – little did they know!
Now that John has witnessed and repaired what I did, I’m going back. I was pleasantly surprised at the bill, but, being somewhat dazed and rushed, did not give him the tip that is worthy of such skill.
I owe it to you, John. Would not hesitate to recommend anybody to this guy! And, yeah, Daisy is a real sweetheart!

Started going to see John. He is so friendly and gives a great simple cut. Don’t forget to say hi to Daisy!

Cut. I’ve been delaying finding a new hairdresser because I moved to San Fran over a year ago. Long story short, he exceeded my expectations, and I am more than satisfied with my cut.

We love John. My husband has been going to him for over 20 years and my 9 year old son has been going to him his whole life. He is great! Wonderful cuts.

Went to Expert Cut for the first time today and got a great cut from John. He’s been there 28 years. He knows what he is doing. I called ahead and walked down from my house 15 minutes later. I have a TON of hair and it was only $ 17! To top it all off, he’s super friendly and great to talk to. I can’t believe I can walk down to get a great haircut rather than spending $ 80-​$ 100 to go downtown to get the same haircut.

John is such an awesome and nice guy. I love the cuts and a normally a very short wait. I just wish the prices were a bit cheaper, oh well, I would rather give it to him then some super cuts chain.

Since I just moved from Chicago for work was looking for a place to go and found this spot. I won’t go anywhere else going forward. The hair looks good as soon as you walk out and it grows out perfectly. Hopefully it keeps being a secret.

John is a funny guy. Has been here since 1985. I have a crew cut at number 1.5 and at $ 16 it might be quite steep. My chinatown cut is only 5 bucks. I live across the street so I will have him on my emergency haircut list. Great guy!

I can only speak for how he cuts men’s hair, but John does such a wonderful job that I have been going to him since I was in high school, which is now unfortunately 20 years out. John is old school, which is kinda nice contrast with the newer businesses which often have more glitz than quality service.
