Not fancy but for the price is good. Just take a magazine and show what you want. Generally I like it.

I didn’t realize it until a few days afterwards, but I LOVE my haircut. The man that cut my hair did not speak a lick of English, so I had trouble communicating the length that I wanted. It ended up being about 3 inches shorter than I wanted. He did an amazing job of layering my hair, it feels much lighter and healthier after the cut. I wanted a cut from an Asian place, cause everywhere else doesn’t know how to deal with our thick hair. It was obvious that he knew what he was doing so I let him do his thhhhhang. Only reason I don’t rate this place 5 starts is because of the language barrier.

Awesome experience! Note, I do speak Cantonese, so no language barrier. Deanna cut my hair after a nice wash, and blew dry and styled my new short bob hair cut. I chose the style from her magazines and showed it to her. She made some suggestions to alter a bit of the style, I’m always open to an expert, and she made me look at least 10 years younger, wow! Very nice service, they take their time and don’t rush. Lots of local clientele. Right after my haircut, I walked on Market street towards Embarcardero and a much older classy woman stopped me and told me how great my hair looked. Unbelievable, this has never happened before. I told her in Chinatown! and she wanted the salon details, and I just gave her Deanna’s business card that I grabbed from her counter. Well, of course I will be back to Deanna in a few months! Thanks Unilocal! Thanks Deanna!

The owner has serious attitude problem! Denied my request to blow my hairs dry & still charge me $ 2 more for service!!! Bad!!!

Although this place has no advertising and a modest interior, they know how to cut Asian hair! I’ve gotten so many compliments on my hair from my boyfriend and other guy friends(I have super straight Asian hair). There is a bit of a language barrier, to be sure, and I definitely wasn’t expecting them to take off as many inches as they did, but I also gave the hair stylist free range in what she could do to my hair(which I highly recommend).

Much more time and attention spent on my cut than I am used to. She is clearly a perfectionist and I am the beneficiary. I got a great cut and a great deal for $ 15 for a shampoo and cut(men’s cut).

My overall comment is that the people here don’t really understand how to treat long female hair. For $ 18, you get a very very basic wash and cut. And they really do cut. What I mean by that is that when a girl says to «trim» hair, she really means that she just wants to maintain her hair and cut off the split ends. Some Chinese think that you get more money’s worth if you cut more hair, but that’s not necessarily the case with girls. Additionally, hair should be treated gently and not fried by a hair dryer. It’s a standard nowadays to use a concentrator nozzle on a hair dryer, so that the heat does not blow directly onto the hair, causing it to dry out more quickly. There’s a lot of competition around the corner that can provide more style and care for the same price. The people are also younger and maybe better understand how to style and maintain long hair. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be back, but I really wanted to like this place.

One thing I’m always nervous about moving to a new place is finding a hair dresser/salon. You never really know what to expect and I usually stick with asians because they layer hair better it seems. I’ve tried a few salons and the asians seem to have that down. Maybe it’s also because I have the asian, straight, black hair. I got here on a Thursday afternoon around 3pm and got a wash, haircut, and eyebrows tweezed in 40 minutes for $ 25! The owners are a husband and wife team. The facility is clean and bright. Before I even mentioned my hairstyle, he asked exactly what I wanted. I guess he could tell from the long hair. I just had to say what length I wanted and he went on snipping. We had a nice conversation about the city and about tennis. His son plays and he noticed I’m pretty tanned since I play outdoors a lot. They’ve been at this location for 7 years and was at the old location for 8 years. I really like them and my hair is now manageable and light with the perfect length layers.

I’ve been here since I was 10. so that makes it 10 years strong and theres nothing that is going to stop me from going here. they first started in another alleyway, off sacramento st i believe. it was a really small place, and was still popular /crowded. then, they moved to a bigger place about 5 years ago to Waverly Place between Sacramento and Clay. I love this place, its a huge salon and they also have a massage /beauty care place in the back too. So, coming here for 10 years, i’ve had my haircuts for $ 7 before. it’s about $ 8 now for a haircut, well for men’s atleast. but now, I get mine with a shampoo and cut for only $ 13 and plus tip of course. they’ve upgraded their chairs, washing area, and seats for you to wait on. usually, they are occupied most of the day. the two owners, are husband and wife. they’re both awesome. the wife is really good with the girls, and the husband is really good with the guys. I use to like the wife better, but now the husband stepped his game up, and i like the way he cuts my hair better. not once did either of them mess up. they don’t speak much english, but the language barrier isn’t much of a problem. just show them /tell them specifically how you want your hair. you wont be disappointed.

First time here, simple hair cut, clean cut, and a good hair cut overall. Better than Supercuts and cheaper of course. I did notice something that might be of interest to my friends — they have an in-house spa called Ms. Jenny Skin Care Workshop where the first treatment(brows, wax, facial, massage, etc is just $ 15) — that spa stuff I haven’t tried but forwarded the info to some friends who lova bargain

I know nothing about Hair except it grows on my head, in patches around my body, and occasionally as a lone rebel six-inch Hair on a nipple. That’s it. My requirements for a haircut are also simple. All it needs to be is symmetrical, so when I wake up I can wet it, put some crap in, push it around and walk out the door. But time after time people royally screw it up– maybe it’s a function having thick Asian hair follicles or maybe my head is actually misshapen, but I always get a patch of hair that will never lie down or it turns out lopsided no matter what combination of gels, pomades, sprays, or mousses I use… this has happened even with $ 40+ haircuts. Anyway, Deanna and her husband(the two employees there) have always come through– they recently raised their price to $ 8(gasp!), and I always leave a hefty tip since the other guys who try to look competent(e.g. Exchange on Pine, $ 26), have always disappointed me, hot razor shave notwithstanding. One catch– neither Deanna nor her husband speak much English(the husband none), so bring a friend or be prepared to do some hand gestures. Maybe get a friend to write down some instructions or something. Bottom Line: For Asian guy hair, this is the place. Short, long, whatever, I’ve never walked out of there feeling butchered. I’m sure they do other stuff well too, but that’s what I can vouch for.
