Came here for quick bite and saw they had a chicken sandwich as a special. When I ordered I saw the guy grab A drumstick and remove the meat and put it into a nice crusty roll which was then put into a toaster for warming. When I received the«sandwich» it was all bread, some lettuce, a couple of pickles and little shreds of chicken. Highly disappointed

TL;DR — incredibly and horribly bland, even for someone who likes simple food with not a lot of different flavors. I ordered from this restaurant despite reading some lukewarm reviews on here — I’m usually a pretty simple eater and like the good ol’ «meat and potatoes”-type meals, where there’s a main dish and basic sides that don’t have a whole bunch of things all mixed up. After eating the food, I am actually writing my first Unilocal review ever just to express how BLAND it was. I ordered a half rotisserie chicken, green beans, and corn on the cob from their website(mashed potatoes were missing from the website but were on grubhub’s menu?). The delivery came in decent enough time, it took about an hour and the foot came hot, which was great. However, when I started to dig into my meal I was surprised at how terribly bland it all was.(As a disclaimer, when I say I’m a simple eater I mean very simple — I did not add any of the provided gravy, bbq sauce, or hot sauce that was on the side. I’m not really a fan of slathering food in sauce and prefer it to be well seasoned from the start and not have to rely on additions for flavor.) The corn came plain, unbuttered and unseasoned and none was provided on the side. I figured this might be because some people might want plain corn, and maybe one of the sauces was meant for the corn, but I was admittedly irritated at having to fish through my pantry and fridge for some butter and salt when I just wanted to immediately eat my meal. The green beans were literally just steamed beans with some sort of crumbs on top? I dont know what they were, but they added nothing to the flavor. Had to salt and pepper those too and they still weren’t good at all. The rotisserie chicken was just fine, nothing to write home about but it did satisfy my need for protein. The rice that came with the chicken I did not like the taste of at all, but that could very well be preference. All in all, I am pretty unsatisfied with the meal and I definitely plan to screen restaurants and trust Unilocal more carefully next time.

July 6th2015, National Fried Chicken Day. I know… the place right up the street that was way too salty last time, I said I’d give them another try some day, why not on National Fried Chicken Day? These guys… didn’t even see it coming. Closed just like any other Monday. Missed a great opportunity to peddle a little chicken I bet. I’ll try again sometime to see if you have toned down the sodium thing.

Finding decent fried chicken in this city is like finding the Holy Grail. But one that delivers, is like winning the lottery. The chicken is huge, well seasoned, moist and has just the right amount of kick. Definitely found my chicken place. The one complaint was the potatoes. They were more smashed boiled potatoes as opposed to mashed so they were lumpy. But still good.

I like this place is small no frills just good food. I ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes. It was quick and easy and the service was good.

First, The chicken is HUGE. That’s important for me because there is nothing more unsatisfying than walking away from a meal unsatisfied. Secondly, the chicken is super juicy and tender unlike loads of other dry chicken breasts which I’m sure you’ve had. Third, the girl who helped us out was extremely sweet, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile for us. Three great reasons why you should definitely go!

One of the best chicken places, that I’ve eaten in years. I thought the fried chicken was good, but the was amazing! ! Drumsticks are huge! Just one is enough to feed me. Mash potatoes are always fresh made from real potatoes. Salads are amazing and they use organic lettuce. Would recommend this to any health conciouse people.

I placed the order on eat24, it was named SF Fried Chicken Company, but I guess they changed the name of the place when I called for an update for my order. Its been 2 hours after placing my order for delivery and they said it went out… I am still waiting for it. Even if the chicken is tasty, the experience has already left a bitter taste in my mouth. Update: After about 2 hours and 20 minutes, my order finally came. The chicken was still hot but a little soggy. I ordered several different things from the menu: drum stick, thigh, breast, gravy and potatoes. The chicken overall was over-salted, if you like you food extra salty this is for you. Everything was moist with the exception of the breast(something I could have gone without). The breast was about the same size as the thigh, for the price I rather order 2 thighs for the price of the breast. The drum stick was about avg in size, it wasn’t as big as other reviews mentioned, maybe my expectations were high? The gravy came congealed but still warm, the size and quality wasn’t worth it either. The mashed potatoes were fresh, real potatoes, not from a box. Sadly the extra salt in the chicken should had went into the potatoes. The potato helped to balance the saltiness of the chicken, so I would recommend them together. Overall, I think I rather go to KFC. The meat at KFC may not be as good of a quality, but at least its better seasoned and dear I say, better service.

This place made me a vegetarian I was having a fabulous Monday, enjoying the weather, just looking for a new place to grab lunch. I ran into my boss and we decided to try out this new chicken place by the office. Though he craved drumsticks, he was told there was only one chicken breast and one thigh available, which he took. As he finished paying, I stood confused as to how a chicken place had run out of chicken at 1pm. To my luck, a chef from upstairs brought over 2 drumsticks, which I ordered with the mashed potatoes. No aesthetic appeal to the plate(or the restaurant for that matter) The chicken was very graphic if u know what I mean The potatoes tasted like popcorn And there was so much oil and grease I got sick and had to leave work early(threw up some of this crap the next day) Avoid at all costs! I am now celebrating 27 hours and counting of vegetarianism

IT’S ALLABOUTTHEDRUMSTICKS Two Mondays I ate at Mona Lisa Restaurant for lunch on Columbus Day. I noticed across the street this eatery, which is located at former Steps of Roma Trattoria.(I used to enjoy eating at the Steps of Roma Trattoria). On that Monday the San Francisco Fried Chicken Company was closed, but I bookmarked it for future eating. I ate here last Friday night. The first thing I noticed was the cooked fried chicken were in a convection-like warmer. That raised a red flag because I worried the chicken might be dry. Since I was here I had to give the chicken a try to gauge how good this place is. To really grasp if fried chicken is cooked well I ordered one breast. The breast tends to be the most overcooked piece since it has the most meat and very little fat. When I ordered the piece the guy said it would take ten minutes. I confirmed that I didn’t mind the wait. I also ordered a drumstick, wing, and coleslaw. The price of this meal was $ 14, an expensive price for fried chicken with coleslaw. About ten minutes later my meal arrived. As a gratitude for waiting I was given an extra drumstick for free. I appreciated that gesture. I was glad I was given an extra drumstick because the drumsticks are HUGE. My first bite was the first drumstick. I can see why people recommend the drumstick not only because it’s huge, but also it’s moist. My favorite part of the chicken is the wing is because it has the perfect combination of fat and meat. Despite its size I think the wings of a chicken are the most favorable part of the chicken. The wing here was ok — nothing outstanding. The piece I was waiting for the breast was next. I felt outer layer of the breast was slightly dry. The thickest part of the breast was moist but lacked flavor. For all that waiting I was disappointed with the breast. After I ate the breast I ate second drumstick. To my surprise the coleslaw was nice as it had they vinegar taste without the heavy mayonnaise on most coleslaw. Overall this place was ok. I don’t think the hype was justified. The only piece I didn’t get was the thigh as I already paid a lot for this meal already. The price for this meal is more than a whole rotisserie chicken. That’s where the problem lies. I paid a lot for fried chicken here compared to chains like KFC, Popeyes, and Church’s Chicken. For the price I paid I expect exceptional fried chicken. The fried chicken here wasn’t exceptional. Normally a review like this I would give two stars, however I’m giving this place three stars because for waiting ten minutes I was given an extra drumstick and the drumsticks were huge and moist. That gesture of given a free drumstick at least deserves an extra star. Maybe if I come here next time I’ll order one thigh but definitely get multiple drumsticks.

I absolutely love fried chicken, so I really wanted to like this place. We got thighs and drumsticks(after all, dark meat is always superior to white meat). — Drumsticks(2⁄5) — I don’t know what species of mutant, genetically modified animal these drumsticks came from, but they are absolutely enormous. That’s good for satisfying your hunger, but it severely reduces the skin-to-meat ratio, which really hurts its tastiness. — Thighs(3⁄5) — The thighs had much better skin-to-meat ratio and were much more flavorful than the drumsticks. Even so, the spices in the batter were just OK, and the skin tasted burnt. Although tasty, they were just average for fried chicken.

I grabbed my coworker from Tennessee to visit this joint. I mean, he’s a fried chicken expert by birth, right? The menu is 100% a la carte. We both maxed out our chicken meat options and went for pieces of chicken breast. I ordered a small side of coleslaw and coworker ordered a small side of mashed potatoes with gravy. My total was $ 11.50 with a drink. Not too bad for an all-inclusive lunch. The chicken was excellent– not too greasy and cooked just right. Apparently the tenderness and seasoning comes from a brine before it’s covered in breading and fried with a compression deep fryer.(we learned this from the friendly owner/cook that came by to chat with us) The sides were excellent and complimented the fried chicken nicely. I typically only enjoy creamy coleslaw, but this vinaigrette-based slaw was excellent and quite plentiful for $ 3. Buffalo sauce, ketchup, siracha, and BBQ sauces are available to smother your chicken with. I thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ sauce. Coworker and I jammed out to the rockin’ 80’s tunes in the dining room upstairs. Most importantly, Tennessean coworker completely agreed that this was some d@mn good fried chicken. He did comment that it would be nice to have a biscuit option on the menu. I personally don’t need more carbs. The order taker mentioned that they are open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. I will have to remember this next time I’m roaming North Beach late night and want munchies other than pizza.

Stumbled on this place and it looked promising so I stepped in: good decision. Honestly, I was just looking for a bit of fried chicken to satisfy a craving I’d been nursing for the longest time. This place totally hit the spot. Had a wing and a thigh for $ 5 and tax. The wing was delicious with a good ratio of meat and fried batter. I found the thigh a bit dry. Personally, I’d order just wings and drumsticks in the future. Was a bit surprised that the chicken was served from a chafing dish/warming oven under the counter, so it wasn’t really as fresh as it could be. But I went in during a lull so maybe during peak hours, the chicken is fresher. Regardless, they’re serving some damn good chicken. Also made note of the the awesome staff, nice upstairs seating area and easy menu.

Not bad. Reminiscent of KFC but fancier I guess. It’s not crispy, but more like the KFC original if you like that. I think only KFC can pull that off, in my opinion. Everywhere else, fried chicken should be crispy. The chicken pieces are pretty big. Their mashed potatoes with gravy is really good. I liked how there’s ginger in it. The cole slaw is the dry kind. I don’t think i’ve had it like this before. Dry but has the essence of a regular coleslaw. The corn on the cob was buttery and good but small for the price. Green beans were overcooked but there wasn’t a green bean that i’ve never liked. I sensed that I wasn’t getting special treatment because the guy in front of me got more of a side because they knew he came with friends whereas it was little ol’ me getting one of everything to-go got nothing extra. Did that guy in front of me order one of everything? No, he didn’t… Just sayin.

Boy, wouldn’t it be great if I could claim unconditionally that the fried chicken here is frickin’ amazeballs? That way, I could satisfy my inner-child need to say something was amazeballs. But sadly I cannot utter that term when it comes to the San Francisco Fried Chicken Company, and I have to ask myself what happened to all the great fried chicken chains? Popeye’s. Church’s. Naler’s was my favorite when I was a child in Dallas. Don’t ask me why. I just loved it anytime my mom drove us there and got me my own box of it with the hot biscuit and little corn on the cob. Ah, but then there was Harold’s in Chicago, my go-to fried chicken spot when I went to school there. All you had to do was shout through the bulletproof window — «DARKHALF!» — and out came the perfect chicken. Memories. I had a bit of a flashback when I saw what they served here but in looks only. What’s interesting as you walk by on Columbus is that you don’t see any chicken at all to whet your appetite, just the bold-type menu in back of the counter(photo: ). All the chicken is hidden in the drawers, which probably makes sense from a hygienic perspective but hardly helpful in selling their product. The other thing that didn’t remind me of my childhood were the prices. Six bucks for a breast struck me as awfully steep. Still I was there and willing to give it a try. I went for two Thighs at $ 3 a piece and two Drumsticks at $ 2 each(photo: ). They were big hefty pieces that piled high in my basket. Having just seen Godzilla, I presumed they were the result of nuclear radioactivity fallout. Just a guess. The poultry was tender enough but awfully lukewarm, and the coating just didn’t have that spicy insouciance that separates great fried chicken from Shake n’ Bake. It turned out to be too much as I took half of it out only to give it away in Washington Square Park. Because I thought I could alleviate my guilt with vegetables, I also ordered a $ 3 small side of Green Beans mixed with chopped Carrots(photo: ). In what must have been a tribute to my childhood, I added a $ 2 Corn on the Cob which was slathered in butter and wrapped in foil(photo: ). I took my very full tray up a very precarious flight of stairs to the second floor where I noticed the owners were preparing their taxes. Yes, there are tables upstairs with squeeze bottles of ketchup and hot sauce(photo: ). You can even watch the revelry of Columbus Avenue outside(photo: ). Right next to Buster’s, this block of Columbus is starting to feel like a barhopper’s dining destination. For me, I’ll keep my memories of Naler’s and Harold’s and let this place be. FOOD — 3 stars… big pieces of chicken miss the mark on the ‘mmm good’ meter AMBIANCE — 3 stars… pretty sparse with no indication of chicken except the signage and perhaps drunk customers licking their alcohol-soaked fingers in the window SERVICE — 3.5 stars… the owner tried TOTAL — 3 stars… if you really want big pieces of lukewarm fried chicken in North Beach

I have dealt with many San Francisco companies. –San Francisco Soup Company –San Francisco Fish Company –San Francisco Moving Company –San Francisco Cheesecake Company Oh, you got to love all those local companies and damn right I support them. Now there is the Fried Chicken Company in the heart of North Beach. Fried Chicken is definitely a southern food item, but why in North Beach? Nevertheless it is a great addition that I had to visit. When I walked in, I saw a «Cash Only» sign. It was a good thing that my side job paid me in a bunch of Benjamin’s. Or else I will have to find an ATM machine. From the menu, there are no combo meals. Every chicken part(s), side(s) and beverage(s) are sold separately. So I ordered one breast for $ 6.00, a wing for $ 2.00, mashed potatoes with gravy for $ 3.00 and a canned soda for $ 1.50. All the chicken pieces are made prior to my visit and placed under a special cooker to stay moist and fresh. My meal: When I got my meal, I saw the size of the two chicken parts. And the breast is «huge». The huge chicken breast is just as big as a size 44 «double-d» bra on Dolly Parton’s rack. My huge breast piece: The wing is a large piece too and has a wingspan of a condor. But the meats in both parts I ordered were very moist and juicy. The chunky mashed potatoes were buttery and tasty. I do not add the chicken gravy in my mashed spuds. There is an upper-level dining area and that is where I gnawed on my meal and watched the view of busy Columbus Avenue. A solid Fried Chicken place in North Beach and the workers are cool. I will be back!

Much to love at the San Francisco Fried Chicken Company. 1. Bringing more diversity to the North Beach dining scene. Don’t get me wrong, I like sitting down for pasta and some wine but sometimes I just want to eat a bucket of fried chicken at home with some beer away from judging eyes. 2. Modular menu. Go the whole nine yards with all the sides or just grab a drumstick late at night after the bars, the modular approach makes it super easy. In fact let me recite the menu from memory: drumstick/wing $ 2, thigh $ 3, breast, $ 6, gravy, $ 2/$ 4, coleslaw/mashed potatoes/green beans $ 3/$ 6. It’s honestly that simple and straightforward. 3. Very customer friendly hours. Open to serve the lunch crowd all the way till late at night/early in the morning to serve the post-bar crowd, it’s easy to just pop in and grab a bite. 4. Nice friendly folks. Yeah that’s all there is to that. 5. Did I mention fried chicken? It’s pretty yummy here. It’s well seasoned and the meat is moist. I would like a crispier skin but it’s still pretty decent. I have a feeling it isn’t fresh fried but rather kept warm in an oven but I’m not complaining. The drumsticks here are huge and make for a great late night snack. The sides are pretty good too. Really liked the rustic mashed potatoes and a liberal dose of gravy. All in all, I’m just excited that there is a fried chicken joint close to home and a pretty decent one at that!

$ 3 for a small cup of mashed potatoes? $ 6 for one fried chicken breast? This ain’t a two-piece-with-a-biscuit snack y’all! I have to say though, their chicken breast was about twice the size I was expecting. So, really, it’s like $ 9 for a whole meal which is extremely reasonable. Being from Nashville, I *know* my fried chicken. I also know the best mashed potatoes aren’t gussied up with anything besides a little salt and a whole lot of butter. I’m pleased to say San Francisco Fried Chicken Co knows this too! I will definitely be back. Cash only.

Fried chicken fix for a totally affordable deal! My drumstick and thigh came out to be under 5 bucks! Talk about a bargain for a meal! Cash only spot! Their chicken is nicely battered up, crisp and fried. It lacked special flavor, but the hot sauces, Tapatio and Buffalo Hot Sauce, provided on the side, helped with making it spicy! Don’t fret, they have dining upstairs. It is a simple menu when you enter and they have cole slaw, corn on the cob, mashies and other sides with fried chicken! They are still working out the kinks of things around here, but a very convenient shop, to fulfill your fried chicken cravings in North Beach!
