If their was a 0 stars I would give it. We ordered food for the office at 9am to get by 12pm and it was late they were telling us that they are having(production issues) This is not good. We ended up canceling the order due to their ability to not pack 15 lunches… Will never recommend this place ever to anyone.

Pumped to try this place but let down. It doesn’t seem like the staff can handle the volume. The stations behind the line are dirty, disorganized and I’ve waited about 25 minutes and just heard them call two tickets before mine :( From working in restaurants for over 10 years, I’m pretty sure the staff needs a good leader on the line to help them expedite those tickets. It looks like the crew was stifled by the large Post Mates order before ours. On the plus side, they have beer, you can browse the kitchen ware department next door and the service was great. Still excited to try everything! P. s. Food arrived cold and I don’t have the heart to ask to have it heated up. Lesson learned.

It’s like Asian Chipotle! Except you don’t get to go through the assembly line with the staff. Seriously though, build-you-own-box Asian food is pretty cool! It’s also healthier than say, Panda Express. I got: Base: Chilled rice noodles Protein: Tofu in coconut curry sauce Toppings: all of the standards: Bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, scallion oil, crispy shallots, chopped peanuts, lime, jalapeño, and fresh herbs(caution: contains cilantro). Sauce: Fish sauce This is a decent sized portion for about $ 8. Prices are on-par with SF prices for this type of food and everything is pretty tasty! Seating is quite nice and it makes a great quick weekday lunch!

A healthy, satisfying lunch for less than 10 bucks in SF? Yes please! Asian Box is cooking up tasty boxed Vietnamese lunches at prices that won’t put a hole in your wallet. You can customize every bit of your order or go with a preset option. The Workout box($ 8.55) has just what I need, with skinless chicken, brown rice, steamed and picked veggies, all topped with a light tamarind vinaigrette sauce. Note that the chicken appears to be thigh meat, not breast meat. You’ll find this place in the basement of Macy’s along with a couple other eateries. There’s a good amount of seating and even a bar with TVs. We were there in the afternoon and the bar was not staffed, so it’s unclear whether this is an actual bar or just for décor.

Cool place to stop by for lunch. They’re fairly quick if you just wanna grab and go. I deducted a star because of their service. The guy helping me take my order was busy handling other things, and I was in a rush so I was standing there waiting for him to be done for a few minutes. When he was taking my order, he didn’t apologize for keeping me waiting and he didn’t seem like he was in a good mood. He looked annoyed when taking my order, and it was my first time there and I couldn’t really understand him through his accent but that’s no excuse for treating me like that. All in all, I like the food and I also like that they’re pretty quick in making it too.

One of my favorite lunch time spots for a fast and healthy meal under $ 10. Conveniently located in the food court in the basement of Macy’s. Boxes are completely customizable. I usually do: BASE: ASIANSALAD Lately, it’s been defaulting to steamed vegetables(cabbage and carrots). Other options: brown rice, white rice, rice noodles PROTEIN: CHICKENSIXSPICEBLEND Well-seasoned and tasty chicken. Other options: lemongrass-marinated pork is very good as well. There is also beef, tofu, and shrimp. TOPPERS: Bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, scallion oil, crispy shallots, chopped peanuts, lime, jalapeño, and fresh herbs(caution: contains cilantro). Extra charge(I think): caramel egg SAUCE: NO-OILFISHSAUCE Classic fish sauce that’s perfect with the steamed veggies. Other options: tamarind vinaigrette(good!), sriracha Extra charge(I think): Asian street dust, peanut sauce, hot box it spicy sauce They also offer a wide assortment of drinks, including house made and bottled. I only wish they had a rewards program, since I come here so often!

Another Chipotle-esqe design-your-meal fast casual joint, this one with a Vietnamese theme. Freshroll feels very similar, but is actually a little bit better due to more interesting ingredient choices. I don’t regret my meal here, but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way for it again. Shrimp Rolls: Pretty standard. Fresh leafy greens. A fair amount of cold boiled shrimp. The peanut sauce wasn’t terribly peanuty though. Chilled Rice Noodles, Beef, All Box Toppers, Caramel Egg, Miss Jones’ Sriracha: The beef is more like fajita cuts than those nice charred thin cuts of beef you usually get with Vietnamese noodles. Tasty, but in a different way. The caramel egg was like a regular hard boiled that had a very, very subtle caramel taste on the outside; probably not worth the upgrade. The veggies were fresh and chilled. Would have liked more crispy shallots and less steamed broccoli though. The homemade sriracha wasn’t that exciting, reminded me of the garlic chili sauce you can find at most Chinese restaurants.

My first experience at Asian box was good! The cashier was very welcoming and helpful; she had good recommendations and clearly explained the ordering process. I ordered the lemongrass pork over brown rice, with fried garlic and onions, bean sprouts, peanuts, with tamarind vinaigrette & miss jones sriracha sauce. Overall, it was tasty, but I would prefer cooked bean sprouts over raw bean sprouts. My favorite was the pork with the different sauces! I think the sauces make this box worth it :) cost is ~9 per box. This store is located on the bottom floor of Macy’s! Lots of tables and seating; and great place for large groups!

Asian Chiptole minus the buffet style lines + free sauce! Great place to try if you want something quick, healthy(if you go light on the sauce) and relatively cheap! FYI: Located in the Macy’s food court. Enter from the side facing Union Square. FOOD: So instead of waiting in line chiptole style, you actually just look at the menu behind the register. You choose: 1) carb(jasmine rice, brown rice, salad, come with veggies!) 2) protein(various Asian style marinated mean including pork, chicken, beef & tofu) 3) Toppings(Asian style toppings, garlic, peanuts, bean sprouts, etc. All are free except the caramel egg +$ 1) 4) Sauce(you can choose unlimited sauce, but some you have to pay extra for) You pay, sit and someone will bring your food to you. I got the brown rice with chicken, chopping peanuts and the tamarind vinaigrette sauce(on the side). Overall, great flavors & love that it’s on the healthier side. SERVICE: Cashier was super friendly and helpful and I didn’t expect someone to bring our food to us. AMBIANCE: Very spacious and plenty of seats! There is also a bar where you can sit, not sure if it’s an actual bar or more for décor. I would see myself coming again, if I’m shopping downtown and wanted something Asian and healthy xD

I was surprised to really like this place. I was in town for business at the Marriott across the street, ravished after travelling, and I wanted some of that raved about West Coast fresh food. I saw that this place was within walking distance and well liked for its fresh quality. Unilocalers helped me find the place — saying it was at the bottom of Macy’s, so I was able to find it without looking too much like a lost child. It was very chipotle-esque. You build your own. I had a noodle dish with amazingly flavored tofu, broccoli, carrots, …the kitchen sink. The peanut sauce was so yummy. It definitely lived up to the fresh standards I was hoping for. I felt wonderfully satisfied after having only half the dish. Being from the east coast, it was also cool for me to see that they had local beers to go! I just have to give a quick shoutout to their staff for friendliness and professionalism too. They were just about closing and they still took the time to explain their concept to me, make recommendations, and get me fresh food!

Asian Box serves pretty heathy, made right in front of you, sub-$ 10 lunch«boxes;» many downtown eateries fail at hitting all three aspects. I’d suggest taking your order to go & eating in Union Square rather than Macy’s depressing basement, weather permitting. I’ve gotten Chilled Rice Noodles as a base, but I could have just as easily gone for Jasmine Rice or Asian Salad. While my base may change based on my mood, I’d almost always go for Coconut Curry Tofu topped with(more than one portion of) crispy shallots, jalapeño, pickled veggies, fresh herbs, a squeeze of lime, & drizzle of peanut sauce. Miss Jones’ Sriracha I could take or leave. Full of fresh, savory flavor that satisfies my Vietnamese food cravings.

This place is like the Asian version of Chipotle except the food is actually healthy! The spicy siracha sauce is excellent. I want it by the bottle.

Asian Box is a casual food stop on the lower floor of the Macy’s store. It’s in the same food court as SF Boudin and Jamba Juice. It’s like the Chipotle of Vietnamese food. You mix and match items to your tasty desire(rice or noodles, type of vegetables, type of sauce, and type of meat) and order at the counter. Most entrees are between $ 8 – 11. Overall tasty and fresh. I really liked the beef and siracha sauce. Unfortunately the line gets ridiculously long during the lunch rush and it took over 15 minutes for our food to come out.

This place is hidden in the basement of Macy’s. It looks like fast food but tastes like your favorite thai around the corner. Especially the tofu tastes delicious and all the vegetable toppings look very fresh. Highly recommend the peanut sauce! Also a good choice for lunch — it’s yummy, healthy and you get your food quickly.

Have you ever had a decent meal in the basement of Macy’s Union Square? Seriously? Oh come on, even Rick Bayless bailed on his Frontera Fresco fast food spot down there, and that was severely mediocre. However, nothing quite prepared me for the disaster that awaited me at Asian Box where service indifference was matched only by the absolute nadir of Vietnamese phở prepared here. I can only blame myself since I obviously didn’t consider how unrealistic it was to get a good bowl of phở at Macy’s. The first sign of pending doom was that the phở was a special they were offering and not part of the regular Chipotle-style menu. I can save you a lot of time, Asian Box. Stop making phở. You’re no good at it. I ordered the $ 9.75 Chicken Phở which you have to assemble yourself lest they take any accountability for the indigestible final product. Judge for yourself(photo: ). They don’t even offer a bowl, just a larger tray. The mix-n-match boxes appear to have a following. Maybe I’ll try one of those next time. Oh who am I kidding? Little Saigon isn’t that far away. FOOD — 1 star… what a disastrous foray into phở AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… plenty of space down here SERVICE — 1.5 stars… I would like to watch them eat the phở TOTAL — 1 measly star… one-star reviews are rare for me but this one is right there

Asian Box is a consistent and healthy option I often find myself returning to, especially because for $ 11 you can get a delicious and hearty box filled with surprisingly tender beef. My Usual(Recommended) — half noodle/veggie box — with beef — it’s so tender and they give you a generous portion! — no added sauce on the beef — all toppings no peanuts, scallion oil — add egg($ 2) — 2 fish sauce on the side Asian Box is some of the most satisfying Vietnamese food I’ve found in the union square, Fidi area and I’ll definitely be back!

My coworker and I went to lunch here awhile back. We didn’t get there«late» but were surprised that they already ran out of five spice chicken. They do seem to get pretty busy, so get there early and/or place your order online beforehand. Since they ran out of chicken, I chose the beef with chilled rice noodles with the chopped peanuts, crispy shallots, bean sprouts, sauce tossed mixed veggies and Sriracha on the side. It was about $ 10. It was a good size portion and I like how I got to pick what goes in. If you want less carbs you can make it a salad or opt for brown rice. It seemed healthy and not overly salty. Beef was tender and flavorful with a light garlic soy marinade. However, I would still prefer the traditional vermicelli with grilled meats. Overall, if you’re feeling fushiony and are near Union Square, it’s not a bad option for lunch.

I am very pleased with my quick, fresh and tasty meal from Asian Box in Macy’s today. You order in a fast casual format and can watch your meal being prepared. They were fast despite the long lunch rush line. Seating can be an issue though. Friendly staff take and then shout out your order number. My white rice box was super. Lots of chicken, a mix of herbs(cilantro, basil, mint), fresh carrots and bean sprouts with picked veggies like cucumber and lettuce. On top the add peanuts for crunch, your choice of sauce(I got sweet and tangy tamarind), some lime and just so tasty. The rice was slightly over-cooked though. Got it all for just over nine dollars too! Even at the height of a rush Asian Box knows go to deliver great food fast.

Asian box is the asian chipotle, but WAYYYYY better. I mean, I tend to prefer asian cuisine in general, so take that statement with a grain of salt. This location is my favorite. There’s tons of seating down there, but I personally love to take my box outside and sit in Union Square. The ingredients are always super fresh and tasty. The pork and chicken are my favorite(tofu is good too). Where else can you get such a quick, yummy lunch for under $ 10 in the city(chipotle aside)? It’s filling, cheap, delicious, healthy(ish), which checks all my boxes. I make my firm order from here at least once a week and they(better) love me for it. Do yourself and your tummy a favor and come here! Pro tip: you can get the sauces combined!!!

I needed a substantial lunch so I finally decided to try Asian box. I placed an order on Friday, September 18th around 12:45pm for pickup through Eat24. I had a $ 2 off coupon code so I saved a little money versus going straight there and ordering my meal. *Chicken Box($ 8.45) Make it With: Asian Salad Choice of Vegetables: Sauce Tossed Add Toppings: Fresh Bean Sprouts, Pickled Vegetables, Fresh Jalapeño, Scallion Oil, Fresh Herbs, Fresh Lime Squeeze, Extra Shrimp(+$ 5) Sauce: Miss Jones’ Sriracha, No-Oil Fish Sauce The box was a very generous portion, but probably because I had two meats! The chicken had a nice smokiness and the shrimp was tender. My choice of two sauces was perfect for me as it provided some heat and a good fishiness. My only gripe was when I got there, they hadn’t even put in my order yet, so I had to wait for them to figure out they hadn’t placed my order in their computer system. Then I had to wait for them to make it. When it was finally done, they put it in the Eat24 takeout area when they told me to wait by the pick up counter. I only have an hour for lunch, so this was kind of annoying. Other than my order snafu, Asian box provided a good hearty lunch. Lasted me the rest of the day as I was super busy and didn’t have time for dinner. Good place of you’re craving a yummy salad with Asian flavors.
