not really a review(for the record, I loved living here and miss it constantly), I’m trying to get in touch with Rick, the property manager I accidentally had a package delivered to my old apt and its months past my usps window for them to forward it, would really like to get in touch with rick or whoever’s living in #302 so I can see about getting my package, its a record i’ve wanted for a really long time as long as i’m bothering to type this though, one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever been in, the lobby is absolutely insane, all the fellow tenants besides one(who seemed to have trouble with just about everyone on the floor) were really easy to get along with, great location, pretty reasonable rent(for present day san francisco at least :(), awesome little garden, if I had it to do over again I probably wouldn’t have moved out at all. There was stuff on bedbugreports from years ago but I never saw one, they sprayed for pests regularly and I never had any issues. Rick was a really funny guy and not like I knew the guy super well but he was the only landlord I ever felt friendly with, nothing bad to say about the place

I have lived in this building for over 3 years now. Like many transplants to San Francisco, my first couple years in The City were filled with multiple moves before finding a place that was just right. I’ve lived in Hunters Point, Twin Peaks, the Fillmore, North Beach and the Mission, with varying degrees of satisfaction. I can say, without a doubt, that Alhambra is by far the best home I have had the pleasure and privilege of occupying. The neighborhood is amazing – urban enough to keep anyone from boredom, but just enough to removed from the grime of the Tenderloin to allow a resident to feel at ease. The building itself is a gem. Designed by a noteworthy California architect(I forget his name, though I am constantly reminded by architecture geeks I find peeking in for a glimpse of the epic foyer) with a Moroccan sensibility reminiscent of an Islamic mosque, there is nothing lacking in aesthetics. Most impressive of all, however, is the management. Rick, the landlord, and his team are easily accessible and quick to respond to any issues residents may have. They conduct monthly preventative pest control, provide ample security and make a point of knowing their tenants by name. When I was struck with a string if bad luck this year, they were more than accommodating and helped to keep a hard time from evolving into a tragic time. As most San Franciscans can attest to, this kind of landlord comes few and far between. I hope to live at Alhambra for many many years to come. Buildings WITH this character and management OF this character don’t come along very often.

I love this building. A real art-deco gem. Originally built as a Shriners hotel, Rudolph Valentino occupied the palazzo penthouse back in the day when the area lived up to its Theater District name. The lobby is a real show stopper and deep in the basement lies a door to a secret wild garden. I had the opportunity to live in the building and found it a magical sanctuary as opposed to what was once outside. .but that’s all cleaned up now and art galleries, wine bars and cafes fill the void. The management was always super fast to respond and over all decent, dare I say caring, guys in their quiet gruff ways. They liked to share stories about what it used to be like from the buildings elegant beginnings to it’s shocking decline and it’s current revival.(New owners bought the place in the 90’s and have been systematically restoring it one unit at a time.)
