Music for the Gospel Brunch was great, the food was disappointing especially for the price.

The décor and ambiance were nice. The food was just about the worst I’ve eaten in some time. I had crab and corn soup. It had a great consistency but it had no seasoning. My entrée was fried chicken. The batter was fried on so thickly and hard that it was tough getting to the chicken!

Bad experience on Father’s Day with our party of 8. We arrived on time, they told us to wait for our full party to arrive. We all arrived and they told us the table wasn’t ready, and to wait a few minutes. A few minutes to me is less than 5. For 20 minutes we stood by the podium, and then someone walks in the door and they seat them first. It was a prix-fixe 3 course menu for $ 45 per person. The«starter» was 4 mini corn muffins, 2 squares of bread pudding that were 3×3″(cut into 4 pieces), and 4 triangle scones that were no larger than 2.25″. That is not a starter course for 8 people. That’s called a bread. A starter is an appetizer, a salad or a soup. Not a bread course, where you get to eat 2.5″ of bread. I did ask for a gluten free option, and they brought out a side of apples for my son. One Star. It was the limited regular menu, nothing special plus, and a choice of 2 premade desserts — a small key lime pie or a 4″ square icecream sandwich. The hostess service and the meal were disappointing. The waiter was adequate. The music was great, but again — no gospel music — all jazz. Don’t call it a gospel brunch if you don’t play gospel music. I wouldn’t return even if I was offered $ 100 gift certificate. I’d give it away to let someone else be disappointed.

What a find! Very classy place, from the bar to the dining room to the clientele. Excellent service, the food was everything I had hoped it would be. Location is in jazz ghetto, lots of night clubs, live music halls and easy parking. Loved 1300 and highly recommend to those looking for a SF evening in a neighborhood with lots going on!

Lemons: With our first real vacation set to begin on Saturday, my husband came home Friday night with a toothache. Dang. Cancelled the carefully selected dinner reservations. Cancelled the hotel, which requires 2 wk cancellation so no refund, double dang. Our college-aged-recently– home– for– the summer kid has already invited a bunch of people over for Saturday, triple dang(or more honestly Oh f*ck). So I guess we need to find refuge elsewhere. Lemonade: Found a reasonably priced room at The Buchannan, a small hotel in Japantown recently taken over by the Kimpton group. Was able to get a reservation at a bookmarked restaurant within walking distance! Feeling a little better. The ambiance of 1300 was cooool. High ceilings and modern furnishings usually results in LOUD, but with the sensible addition of carpet here, it was quiet enough to have a good conversation. We started with cocktails. My sazerac was delicious and got me into a proper Southern state of mind. We started out pleasantly surprised by our Shrimp hush puppies. I think we both expected doughy hush puppy with pieces of shrimp incorporated, but what we got were perfectly executed sweet and succulent prawns that were coated with a hush puppy batter and deep fried with a great remoulade sauce. Glad we hadn’t prejudged. 5 stars We both got the LITTLEGEMSALAD with pickled basil seed, cranberries, pepitas, heirloom carrots & buttermilk dressing $ 12. As many foodies know, salads generally have the highest mark up of almost anything on the menu. The salad was not bad, but some of the lettuce wasn’t properly trimmed and very lightly dressed with a swoosh of the promised buttermilk underneath, not really incorporated. I expected better for that price. 3 stars I got the highly touted DAVID’S FRIEDCHICKEN $ 22 Do you know what a la carte means? Well in this case, it means nothing on the plate but the chicken. Other pix on Unilocal showed mash potatoes and biscuits accompanying; I guess they’ve pared down — too much in this case. $ 22 for fried chicken with only a fried lemon slice to accompany it seemed stingy. I must say, though, the chicken was very, very good. 4 stars T got the BBQSHRIMP N’ GRITS $ 18 the shrimp were tasty, but only 5 – 6 of them. The grits were a perfect texture, but a little bland, but the sauce/gravy was divinely velvety, obviously a good roux to start and deeeeep flavor. 4 stars We were going to pass on dessert, but both fans of key lime pie, decided to give it a try. Should have passed this time. It was more like a cheesecake with a slight lime flavor. 2 stars. Service was pleasant, knowledgeable and prompt. We went at 6:30, but even so it seemed pretty empty for a Friday night. It looks like a great place to listen to music and I liked the feel of it. Food: 36⁄40 Service: 17⁄20 Atm/intangibles: 18⁄20 Value: 16⁄20 Overall: 87⁄100 B+

I came here for brunch as a part of a big group of coworkers and was quite unimpressed, especially at the price point. This space is EXTREMELY strange. The restaurant is huge and feels more like a night club than a place to get brunch. There are these long, communal couches on the perimeter that are well-suited for a classy night spot. Then there are these«nice restaurant» touches such as large mirrors and high curtains. I think the interior designer was very confused with what they were going for. When we came here on a Saturday, there was a DJ which was a bit strange but he did play some good music to accompany our meals. None of our group had ever had a DJ at brunch before, though and it struck us all as odd Now onto the important part: FOOD. DRINKS: Each of us ordered at least 1 cocktail and these were the high point of the day. Among our group, we ordered Pimosas(1300’s take on a Mimosa with Strawberry and Lime), Watermelon Margaritas(off-menu), a Sprint Fling(refreshing) and multiple Bloody Mary’s(really spicy). These were all very reasonably priced between $ 7-$ 12. APPETIZERS: For the table, we ordered blueberry muffins to start which were also delicious. These were a bit steep at $ 8 for 4 – 5 muffins but they were fresh and a good start to the meal. ENTREES: Now, we all ordered different entrees and a variety of sides. While I did not try anyone else’s food, I can speak to my own and what I heard. I ordered the Kale and Farro Salad with Chicken(trying to be healthy-ish) and trust me when I say it was BASIC. For $ 16, I expect much more than some Kale, a few cut-up strawberries, Farro and WAY too much Vinegarette. Plus, the chicken was SO salty that I could barely eat it. Trust me, RUN away from this salad. My fellow diners seemed to find their food mediocre-good but one of my coworkers had to send their Bacon back since it was so overdone. The portions were pretty large which was a plus, but I do not think the food quality was there. DESSERTS: We also split 3 desserts between the 8 of us: the Key Lime Pie, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake and the Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler. These were okay, nothing special. My favorite was personally the Key Lime Pie, but that may be because it was the least sweet. Overall, I thought this place was expensive and just not very good. Maybe it is a reasonable place to take a large group since the restaurant is huge but I think for the $ 50(tip included) we all paid for Brunch, I expect better.

This was my first time here and I was not impressed. In fact, I was downright disappointed. My disappointment started with my appetizer. I ordered the radicchio and endive salad. Other people in our party ordered the bacon corn chowder, collard greens, corn bread and biscuits. They all received their food before I did. Our server said that my order wasn’t forgotten, but instead, on its way. I watched him place my order at that time. Then, our entrees came out in three separate waves, that were approximately 12 minutes apart. First came out the shrimp and grits. After it took 12 minutes for the burgers to come out, I was more than perplexed. Why would you throw shrimp on a grill if your burgers aren’t at the very least close to done? Almost everyone had their entrée. We still had to wait on the fried chicken. Needless to say, the people that ordered the shrimp and grits ate their’s cold because they were politely waiting for the entire table to get their food prior to eating. A side that was ordered did not accompany the entrée. The server said that he would take it off the bill, which was fine. Another side was ordered(Mac n Cheese), but didn’t come until everyone was done with their entrees. The radicchio and endive salad was good. The burger was tasteless. I will not ever step place in this establishment again.

Had dinner here a few nights ago. Ambience is fine, food is flat. Fried chicken was over-cooked and dry. Mac & cheese lacked a punch of flavor and the mushroom /dumpling stew arrived luke warm to the table(hardly a stew in the traditional sense) and lacked flavor as well.

Before anything. great selection on whiskey! Now to the review. When we arrived, none of the staff were in view. We looked around for about a minute before someone came to the podium to greet us. Before he showed us to our table, we took a peak at the backside of the lounge area. It was dimly lit with leather couches and leather armchairs along the window side. It had a really nice vibe. If we weren’t there for dinner, I would’ve sat in that area to have a drink and appetizer. When we were at the table, the server immediately came by to see if we were interested in ordering drinks. We perused the menu and found what we wanted. Surprisingly, even though the restaurant was empty, it did take a while for us to get our drinks. Once the drinks arrived, we ordered appetizers and shared plates. We had the Radicchio & Endive salad, Pork Agnolotti, Cornbread, Biscuits, Collared Greens, Bourbon Mac & Cheese, & Hoppin’ Johns. We ordered quite a bit from the get-go. The Radicchio & Endive salad was dressed nicely and topped with the right amount of blue cheese. The Pork Agnolotti was also flavorful. The texture of it reminded me of a steamed dumpling. The filling tasted like it had a hint of cinnamon and fennel which was a nice surprise! The cornbread(2 pieces) came with pepper jelly that had a nice tang to it, without being too spicy. The cornbread had a nice density to it as well. Their cornbread comes in triangles, similar to scones that you might find at a bakery. I loved how the crust formed on all sides. The biscuits(2 pieces) were light and airy. Definitely eat it while it’s warm! The collared greens were interesting. Rather than the more common cooked down collared greens, their collared greens are tougher in texture, which I liked! The ham hock really added depth to the greens. I was almost tempted to drink the broth that it was cooked in: p The Bourbon Mac & Cheese was another delight. It had a nice creaminess, the macaroni was al dente, and then cornbread crust really put it over the top. The portion of the Bourbon Mac & Cheese was enough for someone to have it as a meal! The Hoppin’ Johns wasn’t a table favorite, but it still had great flavoring. For our entrees, three of us ordered the 1300 Burger which is in the photo, BBQ Shrimp & Grits, Maple Braised Short Rib, and David’s Fried Chicken. I only tried the 1300 Burger and I was satisfied with only eating that. The burger is sizable! After partaking in all the appetizers and eating some fries that came with the burger, I was only able to eat half of the burger.(The other half is currently sitting in the fridge). The burger comes with wagyu beef, thick-cut bacon, pickles, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and chow chow mayo.(I still don’t know what chow chow mayo is). One of the options for the burger is a farm egg, so I had to get that. There’s nothing better on a burger than a sunny side up egg! The french fries that accompanied the burger were crisp, just the way I like it. It also came with their«fancy sauce», which tasted like ketchup, mayo and Worcestershire sauce. Although I didn’t eat any of the other 3 entrees, the reviews from the table were 5-stars. The only wish is for a larger portion size. The BBQ Shrimp and Grits came with 5 small shrimp. The Maple Braised Short Rib came with one rib that was smaller than a tennis ball. The fried chicken looked golden brown and it came as a half-chicken. Overall, customer service was great. The servers were attentive in clearing our plates, filling our drinks, and seeing if we were enjoying ourselves. The only complaint would be the wait for food. It took a while for us to get our appetizers and entrees, but I can understand why it could’ve been that way too. If they’re waiting for all the appetizers to be finished before delivering it to the table… and then waiting for all the entrees to be finished before delivering… it takes a while for a table of 6. 1300 on Filmore, your whiskey list, leather armchairs, and delicious burger have drawn me in! I’ll be back in the near future!

Classy comfort food! I like 1300, I also like that they do delivery. The space itself has great ambiance, its airy and renovated but feels charming and unpretentious. Gets my vote for a date spot. The bar is also nice. The whole upscale thing feels a little out of place in the neighborhood, but I still appreciate the effort. So who doesn’t like soul food? This place serves most of your southern-style staples. As another reviewer noted, paying $ 25 for fried chicken feels silly, but nevertheless they have great cornmeal fried chicken. The truffle mac n cheese is smooth & rich. What *really* shines is their shrimp n grits. I feel like most of the time shrimp n grits is too… mealy? Grits-y? Whatever, I love it here and its currently my favorite menu item. Their burger looks bomb too, I’m looking forward to trying that next time. Yes yes, you should also get a side of collard greens or something if you want to at least tell yourself that this dinner won’t give you a heart attack. Besides being a little pricy and a little out of place with the surroundings, I really like 1300 and will be back for more.

We took my mom for her birthday and she LOVED the shrimp and grits! The ambience gave me a «cigar room» vibe, chocolate paint, dim lighting. Very masculine feel to the space. Staff was pleasant and professional. I had the 1300 burger, yum. I’d like to come chill there on a Friday night. Nice

Had a reservation for brunch and we were seated promptly. I ordered the black skillet fried chicken and our group shared the assorted bread basket. I thought the corn bread and scones were both forgettable, but the banana bread pudding was fantastic. Saying that, I wouldn’t order the bread basket again just cause the pudding was good. The fried chicken was well flavored with salt and pepper. The portion sizes are on the small side, but fortunately I wasn’t that hungry. The only thing missing from the dish were some waffles. This is one of the best tasting fried chicken I’ve had in recent memory. $ 6 mandatory music surcharge seems silly. I get that live music adds to the atmosphere, but when the music is so loud that I can’t hear across the table, then you know there is a problem.

First time coming last night which we got seated right away(hostess seemed to have an attitude but could be more to that, so won’t hold that against them). The server was pretty quick with taking our orders but however after that we had to wait a pretty long time just to get our drinks. When our appetizer finally came they gave it to the couple next to us… the waiting staff was defanitly unorganized and to make matters worst the same couple next to us got their main course before they got their appetizers. The food was very bland and lacked flavor. I had the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The chicken had no flavor and the potatoes where room temperature at best. It called for gravy but I guess they ran out because they sure as hell didn’t give me any. My girlfriend ordered the short rib which was good and had flavor but apparently they have a new chef and a slight change to the menu(as explained by our 4th or 5th server… I lost count) so the pictures on the short rib had mashed potatoes which looked really good but defanitly not what we saw based on previous reviews. Conclusion: Atmosphere 5⁄5 great place for music Service 3⁄5 staff unorganized and food came out slow Food 3⁄5 has potential but needs to revamp their menu if the old chef is no longer their or add to the present menu. Lacked the bang for the buck we spent. 50⁄50 chance we come back and if we do it will be for the live music.

I had Sunday brunch here with friends. The food and service were good, but the live music wasn’t my thing. I really liked the spicy tasso Cajun ham + eggs Benedict($ 13), which was served over buttermilk + chive biscuits and topped with Tabasco hollandaise. The breakfast potatoes on the side were wonderfully crispy. On Sundays, brunch is a «gospel brunch» with live music and a $ 6 per person music charge. We were seated at one of the tables furthest from the music, but we could barely hear each other speak once the music started. The lounge area is very spacious and comfortable, and the interior of the dining room feels formal.

Nice place for a group of 10 with reservations we had a nice round table so we could all talk. Service was hit or miss luckily the manager helped out when needed. Did not like the fact that a %20 tip would be added to bill, seem like service was so so. Food, I had fried chicken it was great and over priced. My significant other had grits and 4 little shrimp. Corn bread seemed fried and not to flaky. The female singer in the band sung her lungs out and the band was also great

Went for Sunday gospel brunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Let’s start off by saying the music is great! Not so much gospel but super fun jazz. Although be warned they do seat at specific times(11 and 1 I think) so we had to wait awhile, it is pretty loud if you’re trying to have significant conversations, and there’s a $ 6 music charge pp. Everything on the menu looked great. We started with a pastry basket, which was pretty great. Cornbread, apple cake, scones. Unfortunately we had to ask for this again after our entrees so it ended up being dessert. They comped it. Entrees. My shrimp and grits were tasty, though too salty for my taste. Paltry portions so I had to order more grits. Eggs Benedict was solid. Biscuits and gravy were delicious though also kinda smaller portions and lukewarm. Brekkie cocktails. We ordered a couple. Both were syrupy sweet. I couldn’t do more than a couple sips. Service. It was realllllly slow. We observed another table order and get their food before we could even order. As mentioned before, we had to repeatedly request the pastry basket, as well as our beverages. Given the relatively small seating, we didn’t understand the issue. We were pretty disappointed both by the food and the service. Maybe dinner is better?

I’ve been here twice now and I will have to say that the quality of food and drinks have gone a bit downhill since my first time(about a year ago). I remembered them having these really good shrimp croquettes? And really good cocktails(French 75 in particular). Still not bad though(I just wasn’t floored like I was my first time) and it’s a nice place for fancy Southern.

I went for Thanksgiving Dinner. BBQ shrimp and grits was the appetizer. It was savoury and divine! I was only in San Fran for the weekend, and this was by far my fave dish I’ve eaten. The main course consisted of turkey, gravy, candied yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberries. For a classic, comforting Thanksgiving meal, I quite enjoyed it. We also ordered mac and cheese on the side — this too was yummy. Dessert was apple cobbler. To me, it was standard. I could only have a few bites, as I was stuffed from dinner. Our server was attentive, quick and funny. I recommend their Thanksgiving dinner!

I’ll keep it short: this is not the same restaurant is was a year ago. The menu no longer contains the dishes that brought us and our out-of-town friends back so often(good-bye, hush puppy shrimp) and is now trying to be just another precious, overwrought flashy SF restaurant. When we made reservations a week or so ago(today is 12÷30÷15), the website didn’t reflect the new menu offerings. It was an unhappy surprise for us to see the change, and when I brought to the waitperson’s attention that they would do well to update their website, I found the response to be less than enthusiastic. My fried chicken was… okay. Three pieces of boneless breast heavily battered and deep-fried. There is merit to having chicken on the bone. This seems to have gotten by the chef. Mashed potatoes were yummy, and would have been more so if there had been more than a tablespoon of gravy on them. My companions had burgers, which they enjoyed, and which looked great. They still have their cornbread, which was good to see. There were only two dessert offerings, and the one I ordered, something with pumpkin mousse blobs and crushed Oreos, was just silly. Cobbler, guys – it’s easier to make, and far more satisfying(and southern, if you’re still claiming that identity). The bartender was capable and friendly, and overall, the bar is still a nice place to meet for a cocktail. Not bad, but not the same 1300 I knew and loved. UPDATE: It appears that they have updated the menu on their website.

Great performance with beautiful food. For a mellow night out for good music and dessert, 1300 is the place to go. I came here with some friends on a chilled night out and ordered The Pumpkin Patch dessert. Wow, what a beautiful dessert that actually tastes really good!

Ok look I seriously struggled with myself about giving this five star review. Let me Frank and say that I was pissed when I got here and found out that the beloved menu had been down sized and changed so that the head chef could take on another restaurant across the street. With that said the changed menu forced me to stray away from my normal go to items to try something new. I’m all for trying new things but again this is a high end restaurant with high prices well worth it however but non the less high. When I knew that I was coming there for my BFF’s work anniversary dinner I had already began to plan for the wonderful tastes that would be making the inside of my mouth a very happy place Lol. So again I want to make sure that the reader of this review understands my high level of severe disappointment! I had a sirloin steak with mushrooms onions figs and a sauce called liquid gold. I couldn’t have been happier with my choice it was sooo beyond good. I also had crayfish avocado toast for an appetizer. The depth of flavors on this dish is orgasmic. Pickled red onions, peppery arugula, and thinly sliced radishes set this baby off! Accompanied by the sweet lump crayfish whewwwww it was the bomb oh an let’s not forget the crunchy toast and the creamy avocado… You should be at drool city now! I just hope with all this new attention to the new restaurant Black Bark that they don’t plan on closing 1300. This is one of my favorite places to go and FYI Chef I want the dayum menu back accompanied by the beignets … Super pissed that was missing too!!! As u can see I had a love hate thing going on here but I’ll be back lol

Grand spot for southern comfort food! Spacious fine dining atmosphere. Antica red wine Napa county was as smooth as a droplet. Raw oysters were of the norm for freshness and deliciousness. I felt like I could have gotten these entrees from a regular Southern comfort restaurant instead of going to a fine dining spot like this to nom from. Don’t get me wrong. It was good, but you are paying for the fine sining aspect here and not the uniqueness of the food!

Great option for a nicer dinner. It’s not as casual as most restaurants but definitely has a laid back vibe. Classic cocktail options with your meal or at the bar. Food portions are more than generous and everything was quite tasty. Fried chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy/tender on the inside. Pretty sure the chopped up a whole chicken and fried all the bits for this one dish. Comes a la carte so don’t forget to order a side! I order the full rack of ribs which was a special that night. I thought I would be ambitious and eat a whole rack but I probably on did damage to 4 – 5 ribs. Again, portions are huge and these are some meaty ribs! Perfectly fall-off-the-bone and even came with sides and 2 kinds of bbq sauces. Snuck around to sit at the bar after dinner to enjoy a nightcap. They had live music later that night so we got to enjoy some r&b to end the night. Perfect ambiance for date night or girls night out.

This place was much fancier than I had anticipated. I was visiting SF for the weekend and trotted over for some fried chicken. Little did I know it was around $ 28/$ 30 but it came out as 3 boneless, juicy, mouthwatering pieces of perfectly fried deliciousness. The skin was so crispy and the batter was darker than usual and very unique in flavor. If it weren’t for the fried chicken, though, I might not be writing a review at all. Seriously, 5-stars for the chicken! The restaurant was very quiet with a few patrons in the dining area. There were a lot of tables open but I guess they were reserved so we had to sit at the bar. After our meal and a drink, there were still plenty of tables open… a little too many tables open that it made me feel as if we were denied a table for less valid and acceptable reasons. But whatever. The bartender was not very engaging and seemed very standoff-ish. I tried to make conversation a few times but received short responses. I don’t know if I’ll be back. It’s a shame because that chicken was somethin else…

Was not impressed with their gospel brunch. The food was alright. It’s very spendy for what it is. I guess I hadn’t researched fully, but the fried chicken for brunch is VERYDIFFERENT from all the photos people posted from what I’m assuming was from dinner. Tasted better when I asked for hot sauce. Two bite-sized cornbread muffins for $ 2… which tasted like boxed ingredients, maybe worse than boxed ingredients. The music itself was great! The singers were excellent and even tried to do a little audience involvement. The service was poor for being a spendier establishment. The manager seemed frantic over like 9 tables. I understand people are all ordering at once, but you have a very limited menu, it should not be that hard to get orders right. He was not the friendliest either, refilling everyone’s mimosas and then skipping 2 people at our table. He did take off some of the items off our bill since they FORGOT some dishes. I ended up spending about $ 40 just for myself and it was not worth it. At all. Lastly, we were in the 11am crew, and they kind of rushed us at the end. Being a bigger party(we had 11 people), and having our orders forgotten and receiving them late, it’s irritating to be rushed to finish and enjoy your meal with friends. There’s other places for brunch way better and cheaper!
