I’m a die hard Dodgers fan that’s absolutely in love with Petco Park after my visits here over this past Labor Day Weekend. One of the highlights of my visit was watching the game at Zenbu. I almost ordered a roll here but couldn’t bring myself to eat sushi while watching a baseball game, so I ordered a burger from Hodad’s(which Padres fans spoke very highly of) since it felt more American. I actually regret this as I felt the burger was way overhyped and the sushi looked and smelled delicious. My next visit I will again enjoy the game from here but this time eat sushi. I did however, order a view drinks from the bar and watched an entire game from the awesome view Zenbu offers, over by left field. I was pretty hungover, and a fellow Dodger fan sitting close to me, could see how much I was suffering and ordered me a blood beer. Not 100% sure what a blood beer is exactly but I think it’s a non-spicy michilada. Whatever it was, it was delicious, allowed me to enjoy the game from the 5th inning on, and was made well and promptly at the bar. The drinks were brought to us in a timely manner and our waiter, Hans, was awesome. He was what made the experience great. He was super attentive, funny, and helpful. From this point on, I will enjoy games from here and request Hans as my server.

Decent sushi above the 1st base line in Petco Park. Prices are about the same as many sushi restaurants, meaning for the ball park, this place is a bargain. Selection limited, but how much selection do you want at a ball game? I had a good sushi snack and a nice view of the field from a warm place inside. Outside seating available as well(Brrr!)

Another season, another new restaurant in the ballpark… While celebrating a birthday last weekend I rolled up to the new Zenbu to see what they had going on. The interior hasn’t changed much or really even at all, but it was never about the cosmetics in this part of the park, it’s all about location. Located in left field just below the Western Metal Supply Building, Zenbu’s location is prime. How ’bout the sushi though? The selection is limited but limited sushi at a ballpark is a good problem to have. You think you are going to find anything like this at Wrigley? Nah. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, an order of edamame and a few cocktails during the first three innings of the game. I will say that the sushi was better than I expected but a far cry from what San Diego has to offer. To top it all off, you pay out the nose for these luxuries. After all was said and done my billed was $ 54.00 for one roll, the edamame and three cocktails. Throw a tip on that bad boy and you’re out the door $ 64.00 lighter in the wallet. Complaining? Nah, we’re lucky to have stuff like this in SD and decent sushi while catching a game is something that us lucky locals should not take for granted.
