World Famous La Mancha Tattooz

Professionalism I would give Sean a zero! If you aren’t a regular or look like you wouldn’t fit in, you won’t. They are welcoming at all. The work turned out good but there are other places you can go to get good work and have a better atmosphere and overall feel.

My wife and I are heavily tattooed, we go to tattoo conventions all over. And have a collection of pieces from artists all over the world. This is by the far the worst tattoo shop I’ve ever experienced.
Went in for a traditional Friday 13^th tattoo. Saw their stuff on IG and thought I’d give them a shot. Then I start to notice even though they had us sign in, the apprentice they had In charge of the people waiting fucked up the order. I worked 12 hours responding to 911 calls on top of waiting nearly 4 hours to have them call people who came in after me?! That’s why you have a shop secretary and let your apprentice stick to shop work, your a business: have organization and professionalism. The woman who was there early in the night was amazing, once she left it went to shit. The artist paid more attention to giving the apprentice shit then their customers. Then making comments like we were wasting their time or unworthy of it. If you don’t like the tedious doings of the Friday 13^th tattoos don’t do them. Because your unprofessionalism does no one any good. The whole experience was rough and bad from beginning to end! It’s no wonder they have a no refunds sign up. I’m sure they have plenty of customers who want their money back. Lesson learned, bullet dodged.

I chose this studio based on my very heavily-​inked friend’s recommendation. She is a long time client of Sean Hollinger and has many beautiful neo-​traditional-​style tattoos by this young, talented artist.
I was looking through the artists portfolios online and happened upon Rico’s (the owner) work. Rico’s portfolio is full of beautiful, highly detailed, colored and grayscale pieces. He is apparently very well known for his portrait work, which is insanely detailed and difficult to master. I was not interested in getting a portrait, but wanted the same level of fine detail in the grayscale piece I was planning.
From the start, Rico was professional and kind to this newbie (me! Tat virgin!). He was prompt and detailed in his email replies and when we finally met in person, I found him to be no-​nonsense and down to earth. He had some good suggestions on how to execute the tattoo and took time to discuss all the final details. My work schedule is insane so I had to reschedule a couple of times and he graciously worked with me. On the day of the session, everything was super comfortable and Rico was very gentle. He mixes his own grayscale inks the old school way and apparently has a proprietary mixture that is used by many artists. I told him that money is no object and that the most important thing is a good result. So I hunkered down for a marathon of a different type (I’m typically a marathon runner) with chocolate milk bottles in hand, electrolyte water, a comfy pillow, and some protein bars. Rico laughed at me and said that I must have been the «most prepared client ever.»
5 hours later (3 hours of needle time and 2 of stencil/​prep/​lunch/​stretch breaks) a masterpiece was born. He gave me very specific and simple aftercare instructions (and a bottle of Castile soap as well as cocoa butter) and I followed them diligently to the T. The tat felt like a sunburn the day of, but didn’t even hurt in the ensuing days. By the end of week 2 it was pretty much healed.
I can see why people find tattoos addicting. When you find a great artist like this, it is hard not to want to get a ton of art by them. I highly recommend this shop for anyone looking to have a great experience and get an awesome tattoo!

Out of the hundreds if not thousands of shop in San Diego, This is the place. I’ve worked with Rico, and have known him for over a decade. I don’t get tattoos from very many people, as I’m very selective. Not only do I trust Rico with my ink, I trust that dude with my life!!!
He’s straight up, His work is legit, no bs, no troubles from your tattoos, and his approach to his craft is 100% awesome!!! eats, lives, and breathes tattoo!!!

Recently got my mandala done with Sean a few months ago, and I have to say, I had such a great experience! Excellent customer service from the moment I walked in. He took my idea and made it even better. I got it done in three sessions, and I really appreciated his patience and attention to detail. It’s a beautiful piece and I am proud to wear it. He is my go-​to artist from now on. Thank you Sean for being such a sweetheart.

The best place for quality tattoo work in San Diego, hands down. I have gotten a portrait and a couple color realistic pieces from Rico, and get compliments on them everywhere I go. La Mancha’s work really stands out. When it comes to tattoos, you have to do your research before hand and I recommend you check out the shop’s portfolios. You won’t be disappointed, I promise. You get what you pay for, tattoos are for life! Remember that!

I’ve been tattooed by several different artists in several different settings, and Sean was the first to leave a lasting impression. He takes his work seriously, cares about quality, and only puts his best forward. He was patient with my requests, helpful with suggestions, and pulled super clean lines.
If I get more done, I’ll go to him.

Rico is the only artist I would ever let ink me. Rico is is the best artist I have ever met not that I looked for one after my first tattoo with Rico. long story short if you want it done right the first time seach no more, Rico is the best and he nails it the first time. I never thought I would have more then my sleeve I was wrong. I trust him so much that I give him an idea then he makes the magic happen. Rico is top notch I trust him completely he is the only guy to to see.

This tattoo shop is beyond clean and friendly, the artist there care, understand and exceed your needs and expectations on your tattoo piece your look forward to in getting. There are no attitudes or rock star mentality here, straight humble people and they have t. v’s to watch while you get tattooed. A must go to for your next small or large tattoo.

This place is worth it! Tattoos are forever! I got a small yet significant custom tattoo this Feb friday the 13^th and they had a whole bunch of other display tattoos i wanted to get. Only accept Cash but they have an atm in their shop. I am so coming back next month. They have great offers and great artists. My friend told me about this place and i love it.

There are not even enough stars to be able to justify the degree of talent shown by Sean Hollinger. Came in for my second piece by him and can I just tell you, if I thought the first one was nice, the second has been amazing. His attention to detail, his intricate and fine lines are beyond perfection. This man puts his heart and soul into every piece done by him as if it were going on his own body. The use of colors and shading are out of this world. Legitimately the most talented artist I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, he allows you to dictate what exactly is being done but also gives you his personal advice and leaves room for compromise from both parties. I can’t express how content I am with this artist, I will never go to another person ever again because of him. I sat through an almost 10 hour session and he would often stop and check up on me and my tolerance and allowed for any breaks needed. Not only is he a splendid, talented artist, but he is also so kind and caring and not to mention a freaking hottie and a half with that smile of his! Beyond ecstatic with my tattoos and you would too, prices are unreal!

I just finished my first session on a Mandala with Sean. Really great shop with an awesome atmosphere. Sean designed exactly what my mom and I wanted and we are super stoked to finish the piece!

I waited a year to find the right artist and I did here at La Mancha! I’m so glad I waited. Rico is literally the most talented artist I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I told him what I wanted and told him to make it his own and I couldn’t be happier. This is my second session as well as my second tattoo by Rico and I honestly will never go to anyone else. His work is beyond beautiful the work he does is intricate, he puts his heart into his work and it really shows.
We were both very excited to start the shading on my sleeve and it was better than I ever expected.
I cannot wait to finish this piece and get started on my next ones. BEST IN CALI that’s for sure!

I had such a great experience! As someone getting their first tattoo I was beyond excited with the sketch and totally amazed by my finished piece. I did a lot of research before deciding to get my tattoo and Rico’s portfolio was consistent and beautiful. This made it easy! Rico is friendly, funny, and professional… as is his accompanying staff. i walked into la mancha tattoos on a saturday and was greeted right away by a gentleman, he asked me what he could do for me and i told him that i was interested in getting a Hamsa Tattoo, i showed him an image of what i had in mind and immediately started sketching something to give me an idea i booked an appointment for the next day in the morning. Rico is very welcoming and showed me the finished sketch and i was blow away with what he had created for me. the shop is really clean and noticed all the winning awards that rico and the shop had won. Rico did an amazing job on my tattoo and even tho it wasn’t a big tattoo the detail was awesome! i felt no pain and was extremely happy when he was finished my session lasted a lil over an hour. i would definitely recommend this shop to anyone. rico’s tattoo skills are on point!!! i will definitely be back for some more work. I came in this time for a tattoo by Sean Hollinger and he did not disappoint.
Sean’s colors are out of this world and his attention to detail and lines is completely beyond. My husband also got a tattoo from him and were were both blown away by his eye for color and the total color saturation and blending he’s able to achieve. Also extremely impressive is how great he is already, at such a young age. Seriously. Watch out for this kid in a few years because we’re going to see even more beautiful things coming from him.
But I digress, I got my tattoo on my shin and he always made sure I was feeling okay. And I really was! He made me comfortable and he made me laugh. He’s such a sweet kid, I just wanted to like mother him. Is that weird? Whatever. I absolutely ADORE the tattoo he gave me and I get so so many compliments on it. My husband and I have both handed out his card to total strangers who grab onto us and need to know who did our tattoos.
Like I said up there, go get tattooed by Sean. He’s going places and is extremely talented already. Every piece I’ve seen from him is super strong and you can just tell his attention to detail is his trademark. I can’t wait for another Sean Hollinger tattoo!

Great work. Chris Dykes has been doing my tattoos for a few years now. Shop guys are cool. Not intimidating at all, very welcoming atmosphere.

Chris Dykes did pieces for my husband and I. They’re perfect! The detail he put into such a little tattoo was impressive. I’ll definitely go back to Chris again for anything here in San Diego.
