I’ve been here several times and I’ve only tried different variations of their wings. They fry their wings to order so they come to you hot & fresh. My favorite variations so far is the Sweet Heat & Mango Habanero. The Sweet Heat has a more subtle heat flavor that comes on slowly, but does not surpass the ‘sweet’ of the sauce. I can see why it is their most popular version. The Mango Habanero also has a slow building heat with more of a punch because of the habanero chilis. The mango(and there are noticeable diced up mango in the sauce) sweet side does a good job of balancing the heat of the habanero, but still allows the habaneros to be the bolder flavor. I also noticed that all the wings I’ve gotten from them are decent sized. Some places I’ve stopped going to because it’s almost like they use the scrawniest, smallest, cheapest wings that’s available. Every time I’ve been here the service has been very friendly, helpful & welcoming. Yes, many Unilocalers will find the neighborhood a bit of a ‘challenge’ to visit, but a true ‘foodie’ should be willing to go to the food & not the neighborhood or surroundings. As noted in other reviews, this is a very small place so expect to get your order ‘to go’. This is a ‘no frills’ place that is not trying to lure you in with 1001 craft beers on tap, 100 big screen TVs & skimpily dressed waitresses. I like the wings here, what more can I say?

This place is BADA$$! Always looking for new places to satisfy my cravings for southern fried food. Small place with hardly any seating and a sweet woman running the front counter. Menu is limited and have to order«The Bomb» combo so I can try the hot wings, snapper and African fries with some extra hot sauce on the side. A couple of big dudes occupying the whole section of the eat in, so I ate in the my car listening to some E40, Trick Daddy and Project Pat for the full experience. The wings are a good size and taste good. Would of liked these crisped up more, but still good. That extra hot sauce is no joke. Dipped all those snapper pieces and fries in that sauce. Fish was pretty good. Nice casing and fresh flaky good stuff in side. The African fries were too limp and a little on the greasy side, but tasted good. That extra hot sauce makes everything better. Next time I’m getting a small meal here and walking a few store fronts down for the Jamaican food. 2 great places in one strip. Tip: They make the food fresh, so you got at least a 10 minute wait. Call in your order a head of time, if you can.

I continue to say that I wish that Unilocal had half stars. This place deserves a solid 3 ½. Nothing really to rave about except their sweet heat chicken wings… omg. I don’t know how they make that sauce, but they need to bottle it and sell it. I don’t care for the breading that they use on the fish so it was mediocre. The African fries were not quite as crispy as I prefer, actually they’re not really crispy at all. So if you like crispier fries then I would definitely suggest making a request for them to be well done. The potato salad and coleslaw were both pretty. I will come here again but not for the fish, but definitely for the chicken wings with the sweet heat sauce!!!

I was using my Groupon before it expired this time. I ordered the 12 piece wings only and the 5 piece red snapper dinner with African fries(fresh cut fries with African seasonings) and potato salad. He asked if I want sweet heat sauce and I didn’t know what that was. He said ‘if you don’t know, that’s what you want, for sure!’ I trusted his recommendation and he was right. Sweet heat is the way to go if you’re not going traditional. The gentleman working the register(and cooking?) was very friendly-he may have been an owner. I wish I’d been able to order bean pie but they sold out, apparently they sell out super early every day! One of the customers was raving about them so I’ll have to try and get in there early enough one day. The reason it’s just 3 stars is because there just wasn’t anything really special about the food. I’m not saying it wasn’t good, I’m just saying I can cook it and I don’t like paying a restaurant for something I can easily make. The convenience factor and the fact that my kid loves wings and fish make it a place I can go if I don’t feel like cooking and that’s A-OK in my book.

Came here yesterday. Friendly workers, very polite. The fish and fries weren’t bad, but I prefer mine fried crispy and hard. Which I did request. It was way too soft. Plenty of food though. Haven’t tried the chicken yet, I’ll definitely check them out again.

My reason for coming here was because I got a good deal on a Groupon. I phoned in the order for the family fish dinner and had my son pick it up. I buy, he fly. lol The family special came with 2 sides and fires. I ordered macaroni salad and potato salad. I got coleslaw and potato salad. I should have had my son double check the order. The fish and fries were really good. The other sides were disappointing. They tasted store bought. They also don’t make their own tartar sauce, store bought as well. I would eat the fish and fries again, but not waste money on the sides.

Used a Groupon voucher to try this place and phoned in a to go order. Was not impressed. Ordered buffalo wings and fish plate. Fish was not in traditional cornmeal batter, more like a cross btn tempura and plain flour. Not very crisp and not seasoned well. More like strips than filets. Wings were a big disappointment. Seemed like they were battered in flour, fried then sauced. Very little heat and not what I expected. Should have gone to Wings & Things. When this was the Muslim place fish was good. Won’t come back. Just glad I didn’t pay full price.

Looking at the outside you would never think how delicious the wings are. Delicious! Prices are so reasonable too. Do wish it was bigger and more seating room though. But no complaints about the food at all!

Today I started calling at 6:17 pm because the menu said that they close at 7:00 pm. So I drive the 3 minutes it takes me to get there and there is some kid standing outside saying«they are closed.» So I approach the door and I am stopped by one of the employees and he says«we closed.» I said«It’s not even 7 o’clock» he says«because it was slow.» of course it is slow because you got somebody standing outside telling people it was closed. I like the little spot but I ain’t never going back. It’s another fish spot up the street opening next month.

I heard this little place made .99 cent fish tacos on Tuesday’s so I stopped by to check them out. I ordered three such tacos with a side of french fries. Then fish tacos were simple, and non traditional, served with Frank’s Hot sauce and cheese. Two of the three fish tacos were good, but one had a strong fishy scent which I believe came from the skin left on one of the small filets. The fish was minimal but then again they were only .99 cents. They use light corn tortilla that reminded me of the«Mission» brand, which if you have had them, you know what I mean. I do wish would put the hot sauce in the side, so you can control the volume. The amount on one of my tacos was to much, consequently it overwhelmed the flavor of the fish taco. The side of French Fries were okay. They needed more seasoned and were a little to soft, which gave me the impression they may have been sitting a little bit before being served. The young man working the counter was friendly enough, but not much for conversation. There are no tables inside, just a small bar eatery along the wall.

Food is DELICIOUS!!! I don’t eat chicken but I tried the sweet heat sauce and it made me wish I did!!! I LOVE the fish tacos, African fries and bean pie. Very clean. Friendly staff. Fair prices and check groupon for deals! Definitely my favorite place for fish tacos, and to bring my kids and friends for the wings.

The wings here are amazing. I got the wings here with sweet heat and they blow out a lot of the well known wing places around San Diego. I don’t know what’s in the sauce but it’s very unique and I can’t see myself getting tired of it. The fries here are definitely on the softer side but I prefer my fries soft so that wasn’t a problem for me at all. I live further up north so it’s a pain to come more often but I would highly recommend to anyone who lives in the area.

I’ve been here two times before towards the evening time and the food is good service is QUICK. So I decided to come in the day time during my lunch break. BIGMISTAKE I ordered a simple 5 piece wing and fries. It took them 44 mins from the time i ordered to time I got the food. Although the food was good I’m not gonna lie they are SLOW! So I say if your coming during the day call ahead of time to place your order.

I’m gonna begin with saying that I don’t like eating fish. But I decided to try one of their $ 1 fish tacos on a Tuesday. I ate one and it was amazing! I didn’t enjoy the fish per say(I still don’t like fish), it was more the sauce that I enjoyed. It was slightly spicy, vinegary but oh so good! I think I’ll be stopping by every Tuesday on a regular basis.

Formerly«Salaam’s»(sp.?), but now under new management and name. Definitely has a new look and vibe, that I’m sure will improve with time. To-go orders are ideal. Staff is friendly and the food is GOOD. Don’t forget to order some WINGS with their trademark SWEETHEATSAUCE… awesome!

It’s Friday so it’s fish time for me. Was nearby, so I went in search of Salaam’s Fish House. nowhere to be found. They have changed their moniker to the unimaginative Wings & Fish. Guess what they cook up? I selected the Fish & African Fries combo. The young lady at the register said my meal would come along in 10 mins so I picked up 2 of their cranberry oatmeal cookies to snack on in the mean time. Good but no better or worse than a church bake sale. The fish came out in its oily glory. I enjoyed the red snapper. You can tell you are eating a fish filet unlike bland haddock or icelandic cod. The outside was crispy and seasoned reminiscent of Old Bay. The fries were thick and gummy in the middle. They may have just been rushed out of the fryer too quickly to get me off on my merry way. A decent fried fish lunch and I will be back for a call in order in hopes that the extra prep time bumps em up to a fourth star.
