My biggest wish is that they had more vinyl in-store, but other than that you absolutely can’t complain that a store like this exists in San Diego. When you need real specialized advice from real DJs who know real *pro* gear and *real dance music*, you go to a place like this. Additionally, it’s places like this that sponsor events, bring big names to town, and contribute in a larger way– and help truly sustain– the essence of what dance music is all about. And they do just that. Real DJs shop at real places like this, because real places like this specialize in real-deal DJ gear and dance music. Five stars. Period.

This place is absolutely phenomenal! Went I. There and got some equipment which turned out to be faulty, came back in the next day and told them and they replaced it without any hesitation or problems! Super cool guys in there, really know their stuff! All kinds if great hardware in there and a great selection if electric music like DnB an Dubstep! Definitely will make a stop here next time I’m in town!

I cant say nice enough things about this place, I went in here randomly on a spur of the moment record hunt and was greeted by two really nice guys, if you go into record stores you know they are usually filled with mustached assfaced hipster dicks or spockrockers that only know music that happened within the last 3 years, and usually cant talk because they are too busy beating each other off while discussing the latest mix tape that came out of pitchfork, Not the case here, I spoke with both of them for about 25 minutes about music and records there was no trying to sell me anything, no look of annoyance with questions just two genuinely nice guys talking about music. My second experience with this place was when I did something stupid and broke a connector cable on my headshell, I called an hour before they closed and Brian told me just to come on down, I got there about 15 – 20 minutes before they closed(which usually I wouldn’t do because people want to go home but I was desperate) and was met with the same friendliness, a handshake and a conversation while Brian fixed and tested my headshell and cartridge. Several minutes and an exceptionally reasonable price later I was on my home. I was absolutely stunned by the friendliness, willing to help and excellent price. Basically I felt more like I went over to a buddies house for a favor than to a store and was more than willing to part with near any amount I was asked to pay. Weather you like DJ stuff or not I highly recommend checking this place out for vinyl or record accessories, You will be met with cool people and nice atmosphere. Its great to find a small business that isn’t being run into the ground by arrogant self absorbed asshats.

If you’re a DJ, or love house, electronica, drums/bass genres, then this is a hole in a wall for you. They have plenty of dj equipments and serato vinyls to choose from. Not my type of music, but the man behind the counter was very kind and knowledgeable.

This place is a mobile DJs dream come true! I use this place on a bi-weekly base. David is very reasonable and on point with his equipment. I would definitely recommend my fellow DJs to United Records. Long live United Records! «Got DJ Company»

The fact that a music store that sells vinyl anymore still exists is amazing. It’s been years since I’ve been to United Records and the last time was when they were in Clairemont Mesa. David still runs a tight shop and is willing to talk to anyone with an interest in house music. For this guy, it’s not a genre of dance music. It’s a way of life. He’s a laid back guy who is down for the music and culture. He doesn’t waste time with small talk or making impressions. He does what he does and makes no qualms about it. This is reflected in his store. As digital technology slowly takes over and makes vinyl records an antiquity. And as the seas of quality dance music seeps go deeper and deeper into the thresholds of the mainstream. If one man, and one store, could be an island this would be it. I don’t shop much or even frequent these places anymore. But I did manage to stop by UnRec for nostalgia’s sake. I’m glad that I did. Five Stars based on: Principle Quality over quantity

I’m no DJ, but I wandered in here on my Bday and picked out some things without listening, and it turned out to be a pretty tasty grab bag: D It was really clean and ORGANIZED, the gent working the counter was nice and I just kinda felt like I was in my nonexistant super-cool-shut-in-record-collector neighbors living room the whole time. Sike this isn’t Ghost World.

Ahhh… United Records. Not exactly what they used to be, but still very good. It seems that David has gotten a clue and started selling some of his rare used records online instead of in the store and a hella good price like he used to. 4 – 5 years ago I would spend $ 30 on used techno and house records out of this store at its old location up in Clairemont and have a stack of 8 or 9 floor fillers. Now if I wanted to try that, I would find people running for their lives to get away from the sound. The quality has just been sucked out of the used bins… which is too bad. On the plus side, their selection is still not the«trendy» selection that you will find over at CSL. David still buys what he wants for the store, not what is going to sell the best. Their new location is way cooler than the old one, IMO. There are bins all over this place, the building is super nice, and it is in a nice central San Diego locale… The turntables are the same, and luckily still work, but the headphones are old and could stand to be replaced. For me, United Records is THE record shop for electronic music in San Diego.

Cool little electronica /house /drum&Bass /techno cd & record store. It is definitely a place where you need to go if you are into trance /old-school /hip hop /downtemp /etc. It has a very cool selection of CD’s all well labeled to tell what genre they are in. Plus they have 2100-cd-changer machines set up with headphones, so you can hear all the cd’s. Plus they have several vinyl listening stations as well. A cool little store that has all the techno stuff you’d want.
