I should’ve written this earlier, when I actually got the haircut — so sorry for that. I just moved here from Virginia, so I had to go through the daunting process of finding a new beauty crew. It sucks to have to do that. But Roz gave me the best hair cut of my life. We have had the same styles at one time or another so she totally got it. I’m so glad I went to her!!! I feel super lucky I chose right the first time around.

Just got done with my first curly cut here with Katie Span and I love it! My hair was pretty dead, and she was able to save it without taking off much length. She has also introduced me to new products that give me the same if not better results as Deva Curl with using a lot less product. I’ll definitely see her in three months!

First and foremost, I received a «Curly Girl» cut from Katie Spann, and I HIGHLY recommend the cut and the stylist!
I found the Lighthouse Salon through a recommendation from a friend who also get’s her hair cuts here. I was a little skeptical because she has straight, fine hair and I have curly hair. However, she did say that she had another friend with curly hair who gets her hair cut here, and so I jumped on and checked the reviews. Right away I was impressed with the curly hair reviews. There are many salons with great reviews and pictures, but their all very pretty, long, straight hair. I have curly/​wavy hair and I wanted to cut it short. So it was an easy decision to come to Lighthouse.
Katie was great. She was very professional and friendly. She talked to me about the curly girl haircut, each step of the process, why she cuts curly hair when it’s dry, explained each of the products she was using in my hair, and all the steps after while drying my hair. She was extremely complimentary of my hair type and really took the time to analyze the cut so it would fall correctly when all was said and done. It’s a beautiful cut and I couldn’t be happier! :)

I’m a legit Marisa groupie. I followed her here when the salon first opened and would follow her anywhere; Marisa is literally the best thing to have happened to hair. She always has me looking FOINE when I leave the salon and I’m pretty sure she’s the OG of color. Like dead serious, everytime I go in, I’m just like, «I don’t care, whatever you suggest» and never think twice about it bc she’s that amazing with color. Not only is she amazing with hair, she’s just a really sweet, fun person. Always upbeat and just a ray of sunshine. I always look forward to when we get to catch up on our hot gossip. But let me tell you this– her head massages. Omfg. I literally can’t even, they will make you want to cry. It’s probably the most amazing thing on God’s green earth. I’m not kidding. At all. Anyway, I would encourage anyone with hair follicles to see Marisa and her golden shampoo skills:)
And as far as the salon goes, I also really enjoy. Very boho chic with a calming zen ambiance. The best part though (besides that yummy ice cream place next door) is the parking-​SUPER easy and there’s always spots available. And if you ask nicely, you may get a nice complimentary glass of wine :))

Had a pretty great experience here. Such s beautiful salon and such a relaxing atmosphere. I got a curly cut and my hair moves so much better and is so much healthier, no more breakage. Another thing I liked about this salon is that they don’t pressure you to buy the products they sell there. It was offered to me, but it wasn’t like they were adamant «buy this product or die» about it lol. I will definitely be back. Also very reasonably priced for the services.

I got my very first Devacut done by Kendall. She was booked up a month in advance, but I was lucky to be seen as a result of a cancellation!
She was very friendly and knowledgable about curly hair. I felt comfortable with her and she answered all my questions, leaving me feeling confident in my ability to style my hair in a wash n go. I am satisfied with my cut and style which compliments my face shape well!
Minus one star because for me $ 95 is a bit steep for a cut BUT overall great experience

I booked an appointment with Kendall to get a curly cut. My curls were in such a sad state but Kendall literally worked magic on my hair! I have never had such an amazing hair cut and she was great at explaining how to style it and which products to use. The scalp massage was amazing, the best I’ve had! It’s been a week now and I have been able to get the same results, which has never happened before for me. I’ve never left a review on Unilocal but my haircut is seriously –that– amazing that I felt the need to!

I haven’t loved my hair in a long time and MK made me feel beautiful and human again. She is absolutely fantastic and I love the products used as well. If you are looking for talented stylists check out this salon. You won’t regret it. I brought my husband to have his hair cut here as well and he loved it as well. Thank you Lighthouse!

I’ve continued to go to Katie for my curly girl trims and color since my last review, but today I went for my first ever big chop. I wanted about 10 inches (straight length) cut off into a curly bob. I was extremely nervous because this was a huge decision and there’s no «take backs». I showed Katie a picture of what I wanted and she cut my hair exactly how I imagined. I absolutely LOVE my hair!!! I am so grateful for Katie getting my hair exactly how I wanted and me not leaving the salon crying!

This is how I felt like a million bucks today…
I finally found Edgardo Rivera who works at this wonderful establishment… it only took 2 years. Long ago I came to him like a wet puppy dog that has come in from the pouring rain. He was able to rectify these unruly curls and put my mane on parade. The last time that Edgardo worked on my hair was in 2009. Thorough me losing touch and moving to Austin, Texas my hair was only surviving. Coming back in 2013, my search began for a new curl hair stylist. I have really long hair, and I didn’t want my hair cut short or cut haphazardly, so thus the patience came and the search was strong. Typing his name in once a couple of months on Unilocal,and one day his name populated and there he was now working at The Lighthouse Salon in North Park.
I came in with my hair clean (without product) he straightened and then trimmed my hair and also gave me layers. My hair not only looks shiny and healthy, I also walked out with confidence… and that my friends is how i felt like a million bucks today,

Got my hair colored with Lauren today. She did a great job! Lauren also gives smooth blow outs. The salon has very comfortable chairs.

When I go I see Kendall!!! My curly hair guru!!! Not only is she just simply amazing at her craft she is just a beautiful spirit!!! I learned how to take care of my hair and she answers all of my questions thoroughly!!! I absolutely love love love how my hair turns out every single time!!! my curls have never been healthier and I have referred many friends over. The environment is so cute and inviting. If anyone is looking for a curly hair specialist, Kendall IS your gal!!!

I am extremely disappointed in which the way my call was handled by a receptionist last week. Because of how rude she was to me on the phone, this salon has lost my business.
I had booked my first appointment for several services, and on my way to the appointment, called the salon to let them know I would be a few minutes late. Upon telling the receptionist that, she snapped back at me and told me that if I was late AT ALL for my appointment that we’d have to cancel it because I’d mess up the timing of other clients. She was rude, demeaning, and unfriendly in explaining this process and made me feel really bad. Now, I understand that salons need to keep on schedule in order to provide top notch service to their clients and I am not upset about my service needing to be rescheduled. What I AM upset about is how the receptionist handled the call and made me feel so bad about being late.
This would have been an opportunity for the salon to gain a new client, and unfortunately, they lost one. I will not reschedule my appointment with them.

I had a terrific cut & blowout with Crystal. She layered my hair, gave it tons of movement, and I’m really pleased with the cut. I have wavy hair, and like a bit of texture and body even though my hair is long (tough to achieve). I purchased my cut through Groupon & will definitely be back.
She gave me a great head & neck massage when she washed my hair, and I was really pleased with the blow out. I have hair that can get frizzy & not hold a style well, so I was pleasantly surprised when the blow out looked great for days.

This review is for Crystal but first let me talk about the salon.
I’m very picky with my hair and after always faithfully following my mom to her hair ladies i decided to branch out on my own. I went on groupon and found a deal for Crystal. I looked up the salon and Crystal on Unilocal and saw she and the salon had great reviews so i booked my appointment!
The salon is located on the busy University Ave. there is parking behind the building for $ 3 and its worth it to not have to search for parking.
The salon is big and spacious and just awesome. Such a cool décor and vibe going on here. The walls display local artwork and you can tell that everything from the plants to the table center pieces were picked with love and by someone with great taste! As soon as you get in they have you put on a very comfortable robe.
This being my first time Crystal was all ready to meet me and got right to work! They also offer you cold water which i loved! About a week before my appointment i sent Crystal a few pictures of the cut and dye job i was looking for and she was awesome! My hair is very dark and i am trying to go rather light. She got my hair as light as she could and i am already so happy with phase 1! I already have 3 more appointments booked with her and can not wait for the next one! I get so many compliments on my color and cut and am so happy with it!

This review is for Kendall, who gave me a curly haircut twice. The first time she cut it back in November, I loved the cut! She just gave my waist-​length hair a trim and also added layers, and it looked fantastic.
When I went back in late January for a cut and to have her do my root touch-​up (I’d been doing my own red color for over a year, but decided to start having my color professionally done), it was a disaster. She ended up giving me «hot roots,» which is when your roots turn an orange color. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got home and looked at it in regular light. Even my husband (who never notices that sort of thing) said it looked really bad.
I texted Kendall to have her re-​do it, and she couldn’t fit me in for six days. That in itself was frustrating since it seems like she should have tried to correct the problem ASAP. When I went in six days later (and I made the drive down from Carlsbad), it turned out that she wasn’t even there — it was her day off. I was almost in tears, so the receptionist called her, and she said she could be there in about 45 minutes. Another stylist took one look at my roots, and said that she would get the color going until Kendall got there. I think she took pity on me since she said, «Oh, yeah, we really need to fix that.»
I understand that mistakes happen, but what I’m so upset about is the way that the mistake was handled. Not only was I made to wait six days, but then Kendall told me to come in on a day when she wasn’t even there. I wasn’t offered a partial refund and was barely given an apology, and have no plans of going back.
I really hate to leave a bad review, which is why I waited so long to post this, but I the whole experience was unprofessional and upsetting. Fortunately, the other stylist was able to re-​do my roots so that they matched the rest of my hair, but the way in which the situation was handled leaves a lot to be desired.

I had a curly hair stylist when I lived in DC that I adored and have been looking for someone as good since I moved back to San Diego. Finally found what I was looking for with Kendall!
She talked with me for at least fifteen minutes before she even touched my hair and listened to exactly what I wanted and took note of my hair type, quirks etc. I was ready to go short and had very long hair at the time and she took the time to ask me about my reasons and make sure it was thoughtful and not an impulse decision. The cut I ended up with was exactly what I had envisioned– longer in the front and short in the back and she cut some short layers in to give my fine hair the body it needs.
She dry cut my hair and then washed and styled it with DevaCurl products afterwards. I couldn’t have been happier with the end result.
Kendall is so sweet and interesting and made me feel at ease right away. She made me a cup of tea while I was waiting and offered me a magazine. I fell in love with the atmosphere of the salon as well… So much so that I dragged my boyfriend back the next day just to look at how awesome it is. Such a positive experience overall!

The last time that I had a haircut was a year ago… because that’s how short it was cut, and how long it took to grow to a length where I could get it cut again. Oy. I’ve had some bad haircuts in my day… I now know to run far and fast away from butchers who don’t have a diffuser at their station. Only curly haircuts for this gal from now on.
I made an appointment with Kendall and she specializes in Devacuts. hooray! I pretty much condensed my hair product graveyard (half used abandoned products) to only devacurl products. they really are the best for curly hair, so why not try a devacut?
Kendall first started with a dry cut and then washed my hair. of course with devacurl products. I had trouble figuring out what kind of cut to get because my hair has been thinning throughout and falling out due to thyroid issues. and I didn’t want to go too short because my hair actually curls less when shorter and looks thinner. Kendall showed me how to put in the clips at the top of my head for volume, gave me some layers and poof! The magical cut was done! I no longer had the triangle hair shape and it actually looked fuller again.

This review is for Crystal! Saw she had a deal on Groupon $ 85 for an ombré or balayage & a cut! A total steal since it would normally run you $ 155 (please tip on the original price she deserves it) it’s a no brainer… she did SUCH an amazing job. I wanted my dark brown hair to fade to a deep/​bright red color. (I know your supposed to go light in the summer… but I do what I want!) I expressed my concerns with not wanting it to look too blocky and wanting a nice layered ombré and I really wanted the color to pop! Showed her a few pictures then trusted her from that point forward and lemme tell you… CRYSTAL NAILED IT. I love love LOVE my new hair!
Crystal clearly takes pride in her work and went the extra mile to make sure my color came out the way she envisioned it. She took her time and did such a wonderful job cutting, coloring, & styling my hair. I highly recommend her.
The Lighthouse Salon is such a warm and inviting space. I absolutely love the exposed brick, high ceiling, ethereal décor, and natural lighting. It creates a wonderful ambiance. They are located right next to Urban Pizza so you can get all done up and meet some friends for a slice after and rock your new do!
My last and final tip is PLEASE always tip on the original total of what you would have been purchasing this goes for all services that are discounted that you would normally tip on. These people are just trying to make a living!

Kendall is an amazing Curly Hair Specialist. She is trained via DevaCurl, which is the only kind of stylist that I will go to. She is knowledgable about cutting curly hair and I am extremely please with my cut. I also did Balayage color with her and it looks fabulous.
If you have curly hair, you found your expert!
Cons: I think $ 95 for a cut is entirely too high of a price.
