The Law Offices of Robert Burns

Robert Burns provided superior legal services while representing my boyfriend in a criminal law matter. My boyfriend’s prior lawyer, a public defender, did not provide adequate counsel, and Mr. Burns substituted into the case to attempt to set aside a misinformed guilty plea.
I have over ten years practicing law in Southern California civil and family courts and, accordingly, I’ve had the opportunity to observe numerous attorneys’ litigation styles. Robert Burns is a thorough, tenacious attorney. He aggressively defended my boyfriend’s case, finding flaws in the evidence the public defender had overlooked.
As my boyfriend was in custody during attorney Burns’ representation, I was particularly pleased with how diligent Mr. Burns was in keeping me informed of the status of the case. He promptly returned my phone calls, answered all of my questions, and competently explained the strategy he intended on employing in the courtroom.
I highly recommend Robert Burns to any potential clients, especially to those who need an attorney who will go the extra distance to defend or prosecute a case with complex legal issues.

I am not sure this attorney has been in a court room in years, or knows how to complete any paperwork, much less court documents. He is very aggressive, highly defended, unprofessional, talks in circles, does not answer questions, or have any plans to resolve the matter, and hides behind his computer screen making no eye contact for a scheduled face to face meeting.
He is an excessive talker, but doesn’t actually DO anything. (Please refer back to paragraph one, I think he does not know how) He eats up a $ 1000 retainer and billing practices are questionable. Several emails with the ex-​wife do not add up to $ 1000. He was specifically instructed NOT to talk with the ex-​wife. He withholds information from his client until demanded that he release it.
His office is a scary little dump in OB. Its cluttered, shabby, run down, dirty, and needs repair. I think he lives in there. When we started up the stairs to his office (apartment?) I knew it was trouble – the stairs were even beat down! The office/​apartment is cluttered with stereos, CD’s and who knows what else. The couch is an old futon having seen better days. He may actually sleep on it.
We went to him because his hourly wage was cheaper than most. Lessons learned.
I wouldn’t trust him to work up a small claims court case.
The hilarious thing is — his signature line on his email says «check me out on Unilocal!» So, here I go over to Unilocal expecting lots of great reviews. There are NO reviews and 5 for «currently not recommended.»
