I’ve always been one who could take or leave The Broken Yolk. Their food is decent but nothing to write home about in my personal opinion. I’m not against going there if others want to. With that said it’s been a while since I’ve been there and went with some friends earlier today. Service was good from seating to the server taking our order and food being delivered but I was SHOCKED on how expensive it’s gotten. $ 13 for an omelet with 2 ingredients. Even the breakfast specials, which were very basic and limited cost $ 8.95. I just can’t understand how a place can be so popular and busy, especially during the weekends when prices are that high. Today’s food of French Toast, Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast Burrito and Bacon & Eggs were okay. We’ve had better but have also had worse. Don’t think we’ll be heading back with prices like that. Too many other options in this city. I’m still shaking my head trying to figure out where they’re importing their ingredients from to justify these prices.

Food: I love eggs, beans, and tortillas. Add a breakfast meat and you have a perfect meal. The beef chorizo(halal and kosher so my Jewish and Muslim people can enjoy the wonders of chorizo) with eggs is nice and fluffy and the saltiness of the meat is not overpowering. The beans are tender and lightly coated with cojita cheese. However, I expect a better salsa from a Southern Californian institution. The salsa needs some spice to it. Doesn’t have that authentic homemade taste, bland like pace picante/la Victoria shit. Step up the salsa game broken yoke! Service: The four stars is for the food, specifically the sub par salsa. Service was five star quality. Attentive and quick(albiet I was there early before it gets hectic).

Good, open early. My food wasn’t special just a fried egg sandwich with hashbrowns. Husband got eggs Benedict and loved it. 2 coffees and an orange juice and the tab came to $ 40, ugh.

I have order lunches for our company at the Broken Yolk Downtown at least every other week for the past couple months and it is always a pleasant exchange. Maria the manager has gone out of her way to make my life easy. We never have any missing items, and typically our orders are for about 15 – 25 people. Not only that, but Maria and her team have accommodated to me faxing the order in, and making sure everyone has their name on every container. From my experience in ordering for large groups this is rare bonus. I truly appreciate her hard work and positive attitude, and the owners should be proud to have her. Keep up the great work Broken Yolk downtown San Diego, and thank you !

It’s been years since my last visit to a Broken Yolk, and this was my first time at the downtown SD restaurant. Location is central with either garage or street parking options nearby. Even for late breakfast on a quiet Monday morning, most booths were filled with patrons. There is also an upstairs banquet area more suitable for groups at certain times. The menu is typical of a breakfast joint, with all the basics you need to fill your breakfast/brunch/lunch hunger. I got the California Eggs Benedict(avocado, bacon, Sriracha) and my companions got the Nutella Crepes and Breakfast Burrito. The space was clean and service was prompt. I’m not sure how long waits would be on busier days, but Broken Yolk is a suitable breakfast option to consider while around Gaslamp.

Our party of 10 were there this past Sunday without a reservation, having just disembarked from a cruise, so we had luggage as well. They were super friendly, seated us after only a few minutes and the food was fantastic. They went way above what we expected given what a pain in the neck we must have been given our party size and having luggage. Great service and great food, I wish I lived closer so I could visit regularly.

Late Saturday morning breakfast. This place was hopping on a Saturday morning. Locals and tourists seems to know about this place. Large indoor dinning area and a few tables outside. They serve breakfast from 6am to 3pm daily. And are well staffed– prompt seating for full house, coffee as soon as we sat down and was never allowed to be empty, and food prepared quickly. They seem to have about anything you could desire for breakfast and a few lunch items. We tried the eggs Benny and California benny. Big portions with plenty of meat and hash browns. Nice hollandaise sauce. Don’t forget to check in on Unilocal, they offer 10% off your bill.

Great atmosphere. Great location. Great service. Great prices. This place cannot get any better I got the strawberry Nutella crêpe and asked for coconut shavings sprinkled on top. The flavor combo was amazing and definitely recommend this to anyone who’s looking for something sweet(without all the added syrups). My boyfriend got the good morning burger and had no complaints about it. It did get a little messy however when the«yolk broke» but I think that was expected at a place with that name ;) Total for two breakfast meals, one coffee and a side of fruit was $ 32.

The Broken Yolk has an extensive menu of delicious things to eat. Since I sort of slept in… It’s brunchtime for me. Coffee, please. And I ordered something new to me: Huevos rancheros. I tried the tomato sauced eggs… Ate everything else instead. It’s definitely different like an acquired taste. The tuna melt sounds amazing. However, the giant waffles look delicious. There’s biscuits & gravy on the menu, but no vegetarian options offered for that… Also, they have pomegranate juice on the menu. Good food. Fresh made to order. However, I consider it a San Diego breakfast and lunch food chain with highend breakfast prices. Breakfast Specials from 6am to 8am for $ 7.45. I’m here after 11am and Unilocal gave me 10% Off at Check-in. Nice.

Delicious breakfast with great prices! Came here on a Wednesday morning and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. Usually this place seems to be packed! I understand why, the food is good and service was great. Food comes out quickly so it’s a good place to stop if you are in a rush. Check in on Unilocal when you come here for 10% of your bill!

Disappointed is all I can say. I ordered the Duncan Renaldo which consists of as listed on their website: «Beef chorizo, Ortega chiles, American cheese. Topped with guacamole. Served with your choice of home fries, hash browns, fresh fruit, rice or beans. Also choose from a biscuit, blueberry muffin, toast or tortillas.» I decided to go with the Hash Browns and no guac… Instead opting for chili beans on top. And for my drink, I went with the orange juice. Needless to say that I was very disappointed… My main issue were with the chili beans and hash browns. The beans had a taste as if they had been sitting there for awhile and when they did decide to reheat them, they burnt them. And the hash Browns had the consistency of al dente pasta… quite soggy. But all wasn’t bad. The saving graces that kept me from giving 1 star was the Orange juice and my waitress. It was as if they took a bunch of real oranges and made the juice that morning! I wanted to take the whole batch home! Ha! The other saving grace was Amy. She was a pleasant waitress. Very nice and attentive with a smile on her face. But sadly I don’t know if that would be enough to have me give this place another chance. I may just go to Richard Walkers next time.

Sticking to my claim that this is solid. Superior service fantastic breakfast and endless cup of coffee. Had the«Jack(cheese) of hearts(artichoke) omelet. Home run. I love this town, and while it was $ 40 for breakfast for 2, expensive but expected in the neck of the woods. I will be back.

The first time I came they were celebrating an anniversary so all prices were original prices back in 19** i don’t remember the year.(That was a pretty cool thing) Anyways the food was delicious and the soda cups are huge. I order chilaquiles The second time I order something sweet and the food was also very good and it looks presentable I like this breakfast place the only thing is there’s no parking

Broken Yolk? More like broken heart! Everyone knows Broken Yolk is basically a fast food, bad food restaurant but when you’re in need of a hangover cure, Bloody Mary and protein, after a crazy night out in SD, you’re sometimes stuck with a broken heart because the only breakfast place close by is this Broken Yolk. We were seated quickly, offer menus and then waited for about ten minutes before someone came by to offer us coffee. The cup size at this location was half the size of other Broken Yolks I’ve been to. Come on Broken Yolk, if you are going to keep locations understaffed, give me a big gulp size cup of coffee! Two ounces of coffee does not work for this girl! But I digress, we then wait another ten minutes for the waitress to come take our order. We don’t see her until she drops of the check. We never got a refill of drinks, asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Since she refused to take off my Unilocal check-in discount on my check, she couldn’t take my payment. I had to go to the front desk for them to apply the check-in discount. Really working hard for your tip, huh. Extremely disappointed with this location! I’ll only be back if I find myself in dire need of breakfast food and can not make it to another restaurant without dying!

Noticed the cute logo on our walk to SD downtown, so we agreed to have breakfast here the next day. I was surprised to find out there was a few others in the area. Holiday weekend after a drinking night, so there wasn’t much activity in the streets. Walked into Broken Yolk, and it was PACKED. But they said they could seat our party of 4 after a 10min wait… cool. Got a booth seat, browsed through the menu, and must have changed my mind a dozen times before deciding on a benedict. Comes with fruit, and not just a stingy cup but a bowl of meaty chunks… Yaknow, if fruit could be meaty. Yum. I kid you not, 10 min later, all our orders came out. So I know alot of preperation must have been done ahead of time, but every dish was tasty and fresh and comfortably warm. Fastest time ever. In addition, our waiter would swoop by every so often to clean up even little bits of trash(like creamer cups) so we were always being acknowledged without being bothered. Boyfriend wanted the hashbrown with his benedict, but it came with fruit. We advised the waiter, he didn’t even blink, and brought a plate over within minutes. Free fruit bowl holla. My benedict was perfect. Chunky avacado, delicious muffin, topped with two perfectly round eggs. Which I broke and made a big mess of. Extremely satisfied with this meal.

Classic breakfast items with average flavor. Nothing really spectacular in terms of flavor but still satisfying. Parked in the structure for $ 1 an hour, $ 15 max or early bird(before 9am) for $ 5 ?. Arrived on a Saturday morning around 11am and waited for about 10 minutes. A few people were ahead of us but were seated promptly. Service was fast & friendly. Here’s what we tried: — Chilaquiles $ 12.45 — Soggy chips and red sauce was a bit sour for my taste. Spicyness was just right. Chicken and eggs extra $$ — Tiki Toast $ 11.95 — Scrumptious — Nutella /Strawberry Crepes $ 10.45 — just that crepes w/Nutella & strawberries — Chicken Fried Steak $ 12.95 — Crispy batter & tasty gravy. Accompanying Biscuit was HUGE ! Home fries were weird. Kinda like sliced scalloped potatoes fried flat on a grill like hash browns and tasteless. Overall was just ok but would probably only come back if I had n o other choice for breakfast.

After a fun night at a Padres game and a night of drinking we decided to try out the Broken Yolk across from our hotel. Heard about this place and was stoked to try it out. We were lucky… no line. I ordered the premier breakfast. It came wih two eggs, hashbrowns, polish sausage and a blueberry muffin. The sausage was really good. Everything else was just above par. One of my friends ordered the biscuits and gravy which came with fruit while my other friend ordered the chorizo breakfast which came with refried beans and tortillas. Both said their breakfasts were ok but nothing to write home about. Service was average. Waiter didnt seem like he wanted to be there but hey it is Sunday morning. Parking sucks because it’s in the gaslamp but most people park in the parking structures anyway. Decent food yes, but based on the hype per say. I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could. 10% discount if you check in on Unilocal
