Nasty, Rude, Discriminatory. «Yanney» Attempted to rip me off, and obviously cant do basic math. $ 5.00 — $ 3.00 is $ 2. Not $ 1.40. After I had her reported to management, she insulted me in spanish and rolled her eyes at me. Not worth my dignity or money. Apparently only people of mexican descent get treated like actual people here. **** it!

Since I AM the Duchess I will do the honors and write a review for Supermercado Murphy’s. It’s a local Mexican grocery shop in City Heights, let’s get that info out of the way. This is where I come for fresh produce period. Would I want to spend $ 2 – 3 on broccoli I’d travel a little further down the street to Albertson’s, but why would I when Murphy’s only charges a few quarters? I’m a frugal and smart shopper. This is where Murphy’s is highly convenient for me. Oranges, pears, green peas, corn, mushrooms, the basics. Do I find everything I need for a recipe I’m putting together? At times, no. For example; Italian parsley. You wouldn’t be able to find it, because well, it’s ‘Italian parsley’. I knocked it down to 4 stars, because, well I tried the beef stew meat for the first time, and didn’t like the chewiness and the texture, suppose it’s low grade meat. But the chicken bits I use that’s labeled pollo de tacos, I like, I make it with vegetables and some sauce at only a few bucks sometimes less, it’s a good deal, and chicken is chicken. I have no complaints except for this last time, I saw a lot of fatty chicken chunks, and I normally don’t see that. The only thing people can really gripe about this little Mexican grocery outlet, is the higher set prices on the ‘American-brands’ such as cereal, and well cereal, and other American-products. But I understand why; if the local typical Mexican housewife doesn’t want to venture a few blocks down the street to an Albertson’s for a slighter cheaper price on cereal for her kids, she doesn’t have to, Supermercado Murphy’s has her cereal! All in all, be peculiar with the meat you buy here.

This place has alot going for it 1. Cheap burritos! They are phenomenal. 2. Cheap produce! It’s as fresh as it can get. 3. Great selection of meats. A little seafood as well. 4. The staff. Super friendly. 5. They sell liquor also. Bottom line this is a great little market. Your missing out by not visiting.

Supermercado is a good grocery shop. They are serving as a good producer here. This is actually a Mexican shop. A little tinny shop, having much items here & there. I guess they are serving lower rate in total San Diego. The all produces are quite okay. But they should improve quality soon.

Huge, delicious carne asada burritos for just $ 3.99? This place is awesome! They also sell tasty rotisserie chickens for about $ 7, which come in handy for Caesar salads or adding to pasta dishes. Be sure to pick one up before 5PM, as they sell out quick. A convenient and inexpensive alternative to the neighborhood Albertsons.

Nothing particularly negative to say about Murphy’s. The food is good, the place is clean and the prices are decent. This was my corner liquor store back in the day now they’ve expanded their original tiny store and then made another bigger store a few minutes down the road. I’ve been a lifelong customer, mostly because of the convenience. Parking isn’t the easiest. I’m from the hood so the people don’t phase me but expect a lot wannabes and ghetto people. Anyway if you’re looking to shop at a chill Mexican supermarket this is one of many legit ones out there. If you’re ever in the hood drop by. It’s where many of the local Latino’s do their grocery shopping so you know it’s legit. I imagine most prefer it to Albertson’s(foodwise)

Great tasting food at the deli. Bad parking and at times it can get crowded with kids EVERWHERE, but that’s what you get from the area. It’s worth the time/effort for some great food.

Don’t exactly know why all these ppl hate on it… It’s a Mexican grocery store in the ghetto… most of the ppl working there aside from maybe the cashiers dont speak english… wut do u guys expect… As long as u don’t act like a dumbass the ppl there will try to be helpfull… Its got it’s highs an it’s lows… All the produce is super cheap as is the bakery stuff an they got sum good Mexican snacks… The meat counter has allot to choose from but sum things r better than others… Pollo Asado was legit… The chorizo n ham I got? Not so much… Ham was way salty an the chorizo reminded me of the kind u find at a crappy taco shop… On the plus side the Mexican cream an queso fresco was really good an pretty inexpensive… As long as u no how to navigate thru the good an the bad this place is fine… Don’t like

What’s not to like about SuperMercado Murphy’s? The name captures it pretty well. It’s a Mexican grocery/convenience store posing as a full sized Von’s. I usually go to the location at Fairmount and Dwight, but it’s just as crowded with merchandize and shoppers as the original location. Murphy’s is not a one-stop shop by any means, but what they do, they do well. Yes, it’s a little ghetto, but who cares when you can get good produce for cheap. Advantages: Walking distance Cheap prices on produce Lively music playing Unusual meats and other Mexican import products Disadvantages: Staff is unhelpful to absent Not much selection High prices on «White people food» like name brand cereals Slightly dirty(leaky milk carton on the floor went unmopped) All in all, it’s not the best, but we’re lucky to have Murphy’s in the neighb orhood.

Great selection of Mexican food items with low prices, good meat counter but fairly slim pickings for veggies

This Mexican store looks bigger than it really is. Its kinda small inside and a bit cramped but the produce selection is decent and the prices are cheap. They have a good meat selection and they even have pre-marinated meats for your bbq needs. Salsa also. Tiny parking lot in the back so youre almost guaranteed to not get a spot. Street parking buddy. Go search. Stores like this will always have cheaper produce than any of the Vons, Ralphs or Albertsons. Its just how it is. Like I said, Its small so that means its usually crowd. This place reminds of of the Mexican Ranch 99, just on a smaller scale.

Murphy’s Mexican supermarket has a lot of things going for it: 1. Plenty of fresh and cheap produce. 2. Great selection of Mexican drinks in the cooler like horchata, jamaica, tamarind juice, and more. 3. Good mix of marinated meats such as carne asada and chopped fajita chicken on display in the butcher shop in the back. 4. Ceviche and salsa by the pound, made from scratch. 5. Freshly made tortillas. Even though our hero doesn’t understand a lick of what anyone in the store is saying until the cashier says«thank you» in English before he walks out the door, it’s worth a trip there for the real deal in Mexican food. Murphy’s is a whole lot bigger than the two other small Hispanic corner store grocery shops across the street in different directions; in fact, it’s pretty much the biggest and bestest Mexican supermarket in San Diego! If you’re still buying bottles of Pace Salsa from Vons, you’re missing out! PROS: — Best in class for Mexican supermarkets in the greater San Diego area. Let me put it this way: it is to Mexicans in City Heights what 99 Ranch is to Chinese people in Kearny Mesa. — Well organized and relatively clean place to shop. — Low prices on grub. You could feed a whole family with groceries for two days here for what a single combo at Chipotle would cost. CONS: — Meat might be a bit questionable. There’s often flies flying around inside the displays. Should be fine after you cook it though… I hope.

Can’t believe no one has reviewed this yet. This place is like heaven. i’ve gotten avocados 3 for $ 1 on more than one occasion. Mangos too. The produce is fresh and cheap. The meat is the same. Some of the best pollo asado I have had from any carniceria in SD and def the best adobado. Carne asada is so-so. My only real complaint is that the fish is often frozen still, so I can’t take it for tacos right away. They make fresh tortillas, salsa, ceviches, and serve food as well. This place is so tight and centrally located. It’s in my dad’s neighborhood, but I drive here just to shop because it is that good. Well worth the visit.
