Taxes and numbers scare me. OK not really, but I am not a numbers person, and I had a ton of business expenses this year. I wanted to make sure I got either a nice refund, or my tax liability lowered as much as possible. I am an independent contractor, so my list of expenses, write offs, and income statements go on and on. I am generally well organized when it comes to this. I received Jacobs business card at a networking event and decided to give him a call. He said we could do the taxes one of three ways and it was up to me. I could come to his office, he could meet me at home or another location that was convienent for me, or we could do it entirely online. There are better things that I can be doing instead of hanging out doing my taxes, so I opted to drop off all of my stack of receipts, statements, and 1099s. Jacob had called me the following day with a few questions before he could finalize my return. He ended up finding an extra $ 375 in expenses that I had completely forgotten about! My taxes were done in just a few days and my big olé refund was direct deposited to me in about four weeks. Sadly I owed taxes to the state of California, but this wasn’t Jacob’s fault. Because my taxes were a little more involved, the cost of preparing my return was about $ 150, I think his returns start at about $ 100 each. It was money well spent. The IRS and Franchise Tax board aren’t on my ass about taxes and I didn’t need to spend hours upon hours sitting in an office, or returning when there was a mistake on my return(Ahem HR Block).
