The Sonoma County Vintners & Sonoma County Winegrowers held a pretty incredible Sonoma wine-tasting event: «Taste of Sonoma.» It was on tour and in San Diego at the Prado in Balboa Park. They had 50 wineries, you could taste over 500 wines, and it was designed to promote the Sonoma region and their wineries. Honestly, it was one of the best wine-tasting events I’ve been to in quite awhile. The wineries and wines, for the most part, were really incredible. And most of the wineries had high-up folks there — either the actual winemaker themself, or someone intimately familiar w/the winery. On top of that, were lots of «industry» folks there — restaurants, other wine-makers, so it really was a unique and special event. It was impossible to even make a dent in sampling wines from the 50 wineries that were there, but we did our best, and really enjoyed Seghesio(probably our favorite); Gloria Ferrar(champagne), Sojourn Cellars and Williams Selym. We also really liked Cattleya Wines(the rep they had there was so wonderful); Cheateu St. Jean, Ferrari-Cerano, and Red Car, In addition to the wine, they had passed appetizers, including our favorite, prosciutto-wrapped shrimp w/pesto sauce, but also risotto balls, and other apps, and table w/an assortment of artisan cheeses and charcuterie. If you made it to this event, you know how great it was. If not, hopefully you have the chance to check it out in some other city on their«tour» or next time they’re in town!
