Shelter Island Cleaners

The only reason I am giving one star is because you cannot give 0. I brought in 20 lbs of laundry to be washed and folded on Thursday morning and they informed me that it would be ready Friday morning. Saturday morning I was in as soon as the place opened. Several times I had to tell the lady that this was not all my clothes. She kept bringing back more each time. When I got home I realized that all of my towels and half my bedding was missing. I called back and they told me it was because the clothes were not yet dryed! (Why was that not told to me when I was picking up all of my clothes!!!) The clothes also did not smell good at all. Maybe this place does a good job for dry cleaning but I HIGHLY recommend not using this place for laundry.

really happy with the service here. went in at 2 o’clock on a Saturday hoping I could get my girlfriends dress uniform clean before monday. and while it would cost the store too much to run all the machines for one jacket and blouse, the man inside pulled out his phone and started calling all the other cleaners in the area, to see if there was anyone else running doing dry cleaning before Monday. although he couldn’t find anyone willing to do it, he did say that he would wash and hand iron the blouse, and do the best he could for the jacket. this guy was much more willing to help than any of the cleaners I went to first, who had all said there was nothing they could do. awesome guy.

This place is amazing! The cleaners across the street quoted me 14 dollars for a dress steaming so I came to them instead and he quoted me 8 dollars which is completely justifiable. Honest, nice and do the job! Everything you need in a cleaners.

I am in the customer service business and this is by far the worst I have ever come across!
The mother 1^st told me that she could do something with a skirt that I wasn’t sure I would keep.
She said let me try & if you don’t like it you don’t pay. It was so disgusting I told her she could keep it & she charged me anyway! It should have been a clue!
They had a suede special so I took my favorite jacket in.
They promised it in plenty of time for my trip & after 3 delays they finally delivered it.
When I got home from the trip that I’d wanted it for, it had a monster big area that they’d rubbed the suede off!
When I brought it back in the son looked at me like it was no problem!
After he kept telling me it was because it was dirty –yes, that’s why I brought it in, he told me he would ask his guy what dye would be the best to use on suede & get a sample for me to try. Then if that didn’t work he’d return my cleaning cost at least.
I returned yesterday after waiting almost 3 months to hear from him.
He started screaming at me telling me I was crazy & he’d never said anything about trying to help me fix the problem!
He wouldn’t let me talk & kept telling me I was just looking for something to do by harassing a business, my jacket was dirty & too bad!
What kind of service is that? Ruin something because it was dirty? Tell you he’ll help you try to save it & when you never hear from him again & return he flips out & calls you names?
I will tell anyone & everyone to stay, far, far away!
I’ve also noticed every time I’ve been in there that they never have the people’s clothes ready when they come back in.
Yesterday a military man came in & the son was apologizing & said he would be there at 6 in the morning for the guy so he could get his clothing in time!
Very poorly run & the staff respond with «oh yeah, no problem, they’ll just pay you out for your jacket!»
Like it happens all the time!

I brought this place a pretty significant stack of items to be cleaned and overall it was great work. This was no easy clean, either. Some of these fashions had been in the family for a while and are going on to greater things, but as a result of their extended shelf time, they had developed a bit of not so freshy.
The clerk here was really honest with how some of the fabrics would hold up, and I appreciated that, but the turn-​around time was way quicker than I expected. The price was fair, and most importantly the items are clean once again. At this point I’m comfortable taking any garment there.

Less than impressed.
I had a wine tasting incident on a white blouse. I immediately ran here (20 mins) to have it cleaned. Upon returning days later they said they were done, I looked at it and pointed out a bunch of dirt and make-​up stains from when I took it off.
They said they would re-​do it. I came back again days later and the make-​up was gone but wine residue remained. AND they charged for two cleanings.
Bummed out, having no access to a washing machine and needing the blouse for a work trip I was about to fly out for the next day, I moped around until a coworker suggested they try it with some spray and wash stain remover at home that night.
The end result was much better than the cleaners were able to do! What a waste of money!

This place is a block from my place, so I was really wanting to like it. I’m so glad I did!
I took a dress for repair (the slit split in a bridesmaids dress while climbing a tree for pictures… you know, those normal outdoorsy things you do in fancy dresses…), plus several items in for spot treatment and/​or regular cleaning and press. I picked everything up in under a week and was happy with everything they had done.
What’s even better is that the woman working when I picked up my items looked at a jacket I had pressed and didn’t think it was done just right, so she offered to have it done again overnight for free. Yes please…
Price seemed relatively fair. I took in about 12 pieces, including the dress slit repair and several spot treatments (it’s been a messy month). The mix was 2 – 3 dresses, 2 work slacks/​chinos, a skirt, 2 suit jackets, and some blouses and I paid under $ 100. Seems about right considering how much I had done when also considering the convenience of their location and that they stay open until 7pm on weekdays.
Good people, reliable work.

I took my mother’s 40 year old wedding veil here to be cleaned for my upcoming wedding and they were great! They didn’t damage it at all and brought it back to life. Very trustworthy.

Have only brought dress shirts here. but they were done well and at a good price… so its my new dry cleaners.
