The teachers are incredible! The idea of teaching music by playing music motivates my child like nothing else. Also, the teachers are actual musicians playing in bands. We love SoR!

I took my daughter here for the first time after doing a trial lesson at their previous location on Market Street. At the risk of sounding like a snobby hoity toity elitist, I have to point out that this new location is in a much nicer(safer?) area than where it was, nestled in between Logan and Sherman Heights. Okay, that came across kind of snobby… I’m allowed though; I grew up in National City/Paradise Hills so suck it. At it’s new home within the VERY developed Liberty Station there are plenty of bars/restaurants(like Stone Brewery), a Trader Joes, and a Vons so you can eat, drink, and do your grocery shopping while your kid rocks out. I can’t help but feel that the whole middle finger spirit of rock and roll is somewhat betrayed by these commercialized surroundings; it kind of reminds me of the suit and tie accountant who bought a leather vest and a Harley so he can cruise on the weekend, playing outlaw biker with his lawyer friends in corporate compliance. The gritty neighborhood on Market seemed like a more fitting backdrop for a rock and roll school. But hey, there’s a Starbucks with free wi-fi I can walk to at this new spot, so I’m not complaining. Just making a shallow observation. Anyhoo, the staff at School of Rock are super cool and friendly and my daughter has really taken to her instructor, Araby. She’s only done one lesson but when she walked out she was all smiles and squealed in the car on the way home about how much fun she had. That to me is worth 100 Unilocal stars.
