RIP Jamaican Flavor aka Ready Veggie Lol. Two separate Unilocal listings for the same closed business. This is where I repeat what I just posted, but I’m not gonna copypasta it here. Be patient, my pet. A new business will be opening soon.

NOTE: You will have a much better experience here if you call and order your food ahead of time, everything is made FRESH and to order. then you won’t have to wait 15 – 30 minutes standing there with your mouth watering. This place is easily missed, its a very small little shop(corner of Rolando Blvd/University Ave) w/seating outside. I was helped by DJ and he was very pleasant. l decided to order the Veggie Wrap w/a side of plantains(which were to die for). The wrap was amazing! Great portion size STUFFEDFULL of veggies. The jerk sauce was just incredible and I wish he had put more in the wrap, but now i know to ask for extra next time. This place IS worth your time, they have amazingly fresh high quality vegetarian food(depending on what you order of c).

I had the worst customer service experience here… I never even got to taste the food. A friend/coworker and I were in the area, and we were short on time to grab some lunch. We happened to be there just as they were opening at 11am, so we went in. I first asked how long it would take to make an order, as we were short on time and on call by pager for work. The very friendly lady at the counter said, «Oh not long at all! You are the first customers of the day, it should only take 5 – 10 minutes.» Sounds good, so we place our order and the cook starts pulling stuff out from the fridge. «Oh no, don’t use that, that’s from yesterday, I just gave you a fresh batch of tofu, use that!» The cook looks at us, looks at the counter lady, rolls her eyes and says, «whatever.» She tosses yesterday’s tofu out and puts the fresh one on the grill. We decided to wait outside the door since it is a small place. About 5 minutes later another customer comes in to place an order. «Hey, what’s up my N*****!» shouts the cook. I guess he’s a regular, he places his order, chats with the cook for a minute, then comes outside to make a phone call. Another 5 – 7 minutes goes by, and we haven’t been called for our food. I give it a few more minutes, and once it is 15 minutes from our order time, I step back in to check on our order. The lady at the counter says, «Oh, I think she’s packing your order now.» I look over and the cook is putting the tofu into a wrap. But I point out that we had ordered tacos. The cook finishes wrapping the wrap, and calls to the man that had come in after us outside. As he comes in to grab his wrap, the counter lady asks her where our food is. The cook rolls her eyes again and says, «psshh! I’m making it!» as she tosses some more tofu onto the grill. The lady at the counter gives an awkward chuckle, and says it will be a few more minutes. Just then, our pagers go off, and we can’t wait anymore. We are able to get our money back and head out the door. «Uh, sorry! I hope you get your food next time.» yells the counter lady as the door closes. Well, after that experience, there won’t be a next time. I had been really excited to try this place, but obviously was terribly disappointed. I would say that I hope they’ve hired a new cook, but I doubt I will ever go back there to find out.

As a recent vegan convert, I’ve discovered that vegan take-out food is not easy to find. My boyfriend and I tried this place because of the excellent Unilocal reviews, and we were not disappointed. I got the ranch burger(minus the ranch) and plantains, and everything was incredibly delicious. Boyfriend got the jerk chicken plate(cause he’s not vegan), and couldn’t stop raving about it between bites. The inside of this place is very small(no seating), but there is seating outside, so we enjoyed a nice sunset and reggae music while our food was being prepared. You can really tell that a lot of effort and thought goes into each meal, and everything is crafted to order. We will definitely be returning!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the food here. My friend and I were a little turned off upon driving by — the«Ready Veggie» sign is quite small and isn’t readily visible so we were slightly confused by the Jamaican advertising lol. Upon entering, we weren’t greeted, so that turned us off further. Anyway, we decided what we want and we place our orders. I ordered the Kung Pao Bowl(which was fabulous… more on that later) with rice noodles. I was told it would take out 15 minutes… that’s fine. My boyfriend ordered the Gourmet Vegan Wrap(YUM). Half an hour passes and the food isn’t ready. At this point I’m starving and as cranky as a baby who needs his diaper changed. Bad combination. The food comes out finally and it is fantastic and instantly makes up for the long wait/awkward drive-by/awkward ordering. The Kung Pao Bowl with tofu was SOGOOD. Lots of flavor and tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce. The Gourmet Vegan Wrap was excellent and STUFFED full! The wrap came with a side of fries which were excellently seasoned. We did wait quite a while for the food, but it was made okay(to me) by the fact that it was all made fresh, on the spot. An older man came to the restaurant later(possibly the owner?) and he talked to us a bit. He was VERY kind and apologetic about the wait. He even let my boyfriend use the restroom, even though it is not normal available to customers! Isn’t that a violation of some law, btw? Anyway, the four-star review is only because of the long wait. Had the food not been so excellent, the rating would be lower, but it was a really pleasant surprise that turned an otherwise bad situation around!

All I can is… WOW! Not only was the food amazing, but the customer service was incredible. The cook offered to make me a meal catered to my liking and was very friendly. The only downfall is that it takes a bit of time to receive your food, but it’s because they make EVERYTHING in front of you. If you’re in a hurry and can’t wait for 20 minutes, I would suggest looking elsewhere. The food was incredible! While waiting, the owner let me sample one of their smoothies and it was to die for! I couldn’t believe it was all natural! I ordered their vegan wrap and jerk fries and was completely blown away. I’m not a fan of BBQ sauce, but their jerk sauce is one I would go back for. I wish they didn’t douse it in sauce, but that’s my personal preference. All in all, I would say you should check this joint out if you’re tired of the same typical vegan meals and want to add a spice of Jamaican influences into the mix

Jamaican with Vegetarian & Vegan options. This will be a regular spot for us for sure now. So glad Unilocal helped us discover it! First off you’re greeted by their«doorman» so polite, then you immediately see the cashier and cook. May be small in size but they are ginormous in flavor and value! No skimpy portions here. We had the Vegan wrap & Jerk fries, and Gyro & plantains. Delicious! My ginger beer complimented the flavors of the jerk sauce well. My wife’s plantains were a tasty desert for us to share. Outside seating is spacious and has umbrellas for shade. In summary: Friendly staff, Killer food!, good value. Will definitely be back again, and again!!!

You know when you go to a place for the first time and don’t know whether to seat yourself, wait to be seated, order up front or at your table and so on? You don’t have to worry about that here. As soon as I walked in we were greeted and offered a couple of options after confirming our preference(vegetarian vs. vegan). I had some kind of wrap and my companion had fries with the works. I liked the fries more because the sauce was spicier, however, fries are my guilty food so I couldn’t really enjoy them as much. I do love that the soy is organic! The reason I didn’t rate it higher is because it took kind of long for out food to arrive although there weren’t many people but the place is small so I understand. Also, there was a sign indicating there were no public restrooms and the food got pretty messy. We had to get water from our car and wash off the jerk sauce. In addition, the restaurant seating is not the best. With a little TLC, this place would draw a huge crowd.

Two words– Jamaican Heaven. Two more words– Vegetarian Heaven. If you’re a Jamaican Vegetarian– stop what you’re doing and drive here now! If you’re not… still stop what you’re doing and drive here now because this hidden San Diego gem has something for everyone, guaranteed! Jamaican Family Type Feel From the moment I walked in, the wonderful Jamaican owner Paul treated me like I was his long lost white daughter that he couldn’t wait to feed! He asked my name, and was so kind to give me all kinds of free samples so I could taste just how delicious his food was. This was a brilliant tactic, because I now want to come back and order one of everything on the menu. Vegetarians, Vegans and Veggies Oh My! I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life, and I grew up being very picky. I don’t think I’ve ever had a vegan patty with so much flavor, I was honestly blow away. Their famous«Jerk» sauce is killer amazing as well. Whatever you do, don’t leave this place without getting Jerk sauce on something… or everything. My Order I ordered the«Ultimate Vegan Wrap» which brought my taste buds to an unexplainable bliss. Paul was very accommodating and happily took off the ingredients I could not eat, which made me so happy. It came with a side of «Jerk Fries» which are made right in front of you, and get your mouth watering by the minute. I will absolutely be back, and if you want some rich food that’s FULL of Jamaican flavor, I’ll see you there too! «Taco Shots» with Jerk sauce are next on my list :) Tips Wait time– It does take a little while for them to make the food, so keep that in mind when you go. Every order is created upon request, so if there are a few people in front of you– bring something to do and make good use of your time instead of getting frustrated. Come with plenty of time to sit and enjoy the food, trust me it’s worth the wait. Seating– There are quite a few tables outside for you to enjoy your delicious lunch in the beautiful San Diego sun. Embrace it, bring friends! Wonderful music is projected from the speakers which brings a great Jamaican mood. Parking– Street parking, there was a lot of open spaces when I went, not a problem at all. NAPKINS!- I’m not usually a messy eater… but I some how managed to get Jerk sauce all the way down my arms, all over my shirt, and I haven’t even seen what my face looks like yet… By the looks of people passing by, I’m sure I must be a beautiful mess up there! Don’t wear white, bring napkins and you’ll really have a blast getting down and dirty with your food! Keep your phone close so you can take pictures of your friends when they’re covered in delicious jerk sauce :)

So glad about today’s rush hour traffic… it made me take University Ave. home, which always inspires me to pick up some good ethnic eats, especially on a day like today when it’s too hot to cook at home. On this occasion I discovered Ready Veggie! I loved my Jerk Chicken Wrap! and after than sampling of Janeen’s Original Green Smoothie, I’m definitely getting that next time. Great meeting you Paul, and thanks!

Ready Veggie has such fresh food and great service. I first had this food at the SDSU Farmers’ Market and feel in love with the taste and plethora of vegetarian options. Randy is so friendly and they take pride in their amazing food. I highly recommend.

I can’t say enough about Ready Veggie, the food, and the staff. The food is incredible, full of flavor, and sure to leave you feeling full. The Vegan menu is incredible and the house made Vegan burger patty is to die for. The fries are fresh cut and always crispy and seasoned to perfection. They also have Fried Plantains which are a must buy. The best part about the food is that it is covered in their mouth watering jerk sauce, that is also house made. I eat here twice a week and will frequent the restaurant when it opens, as well. The staff is also 5 Star worthy. They work hard to get your food out as fast as possible and they are incredibly friendly. They can make any combo of things that you would want, and owner Belinda is always open to suggestions. The smoothies are amazing too. 100% fruits and vegetables. How can you beat that?

They offer veggie burgers and fries seasoned with Jerk spices. The sauce is «hella saucy». I’ve been to this place several times now at the SDSU Farmer’s Market. Each time was with various levels of hunger. That is my litmus test. The 2nd and 3rd time were as good if not better.
