I had my first ukulele lesson today. I have never played a musical instrument in my life, in fact, I hated music class in school. Kev is very easy going and makes it fun. He threw a lot at me but reassured me that everything would be OK and that I would pick things up. He even told me I would be playing a Rolling Stones song by the end of my hour lesson. He was right even though it was VERY rough. I plan on taking the Ukulele 101 class and continue to learn more, as well as go to his meet ups. Get a ukulele at Hale Ukulele at one end of the building and take lessons from Kev at the other end of the building.

Not only is this a great studio to learn guitar and ukulele, it’s a very comfortable place to just hang out. The host/instructor, Kev, has a very laid back, patient, go with the flow personality that puts you at ease; he has a knack for teaching the lamest of pupils(me); and for making it fun at the same time. Before you know it, you’re actually strumming something on the ukulele that sounds familiar to not just you but to other people as well. «Quickstart» is a very appropriate name for Kev’s teaching style. Parking is never a problem, very competitive with the price of lessons(group and private), and he’s got such a cool aquarium with really cool fish and frogs and snails that’s very hypnotic. It’s several doors down from Hale Ukulele(Quickstart is on one end of the«strip mall» and Hale Ukulele is on the other end) across from a neighborhood park — but don’t blink, you might pass it. If you’re gun shy about taking lessons(guitar or ukulele), try Kev. Even if it’s only one lesson you take, you’re guaranteed to be playing something someone will recognize!
