on a visit to the zoo saw poppy’s and saw they have funnel cake which i love! warning-do not get your funnel cake here-it is absolutely the worst i have ever had and i am a funnel cake lover. we got the plain and it was greasy, taste like grease and had about a pound of powered sugar poured over it-horrible-i would not recommed this place to anyone as the funnel cake was horrible can you imagine how the other food is? stay away-plenty of other choices.

Surprisingly solid zoo fare with all sandwiches arriving hot with crispy fries. Thumbs up on the burger and chicken sandwiches. The price on these is not bad but the over $ 5 softdrink is what wacks off a star.

There are a ton of restaurants scattered throughout the Zoo, but I prefer Poppy’s. It’s quite small, has a limited menu, but… I’ve never encountered a wait, all the tables offer shade and there is plenty of room for strollers and kids to run around. Located just outside of the Children’s Zoo, it offers«little people» themed seating with little chairs and tables for kids. I personally believe the kids menu options are really what kids love(chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, etc) and the service is pretty quick. I usually order the kids menu($ 7.99), but opted for the adult cheeseburger($ 8.99) which comes with fries as I already had my drink in a refill-able souvenir mug :)

Poppy’s Patio is unpalatable! Either feed me junk food that’s yummy, or feed me healthy food that’s tasty. But don’t feed me junk food that tastes gross! Don’t order the chicken strips for $ 8.49 at Poppy’s Patio in the zoo. Gross! It tastes gross, and the texture is poor. It comes with fries that are at least edible. Iced tea is good. Kids cheeseburger looked very basic but ok, and my granddaughter ate it, but I didn’t taste it. The Swirl ice cream cone is ok, and is an enjoyable treat. The only thing that saves Poppy’s patio from a 1 star review is that the ice cream and the iced tea are pretty good, and my granddaughter ate the cheeseburger. Poppy’s Patio is right next to the children’s zoo in the San Diego zoo. If you want yummier food in the zoo, either eat at Alberts restaurant in the zoo, or bring your own food.

Poppy’s Patio is that place you stop when just about to go into the Children’s Zoo. Although they sell burgers etc., the forte of this place are their swirl desserts. These include ice cream funnel cakes, chocolate and vanilla swirl cones, and a new Oreo sundae, which I sample today. Whenever I go to the San Diego zoo, I stop at Poppy’s Patio. The cooked food here is uniformly mediocre, but since that’s not why I’m stopping, I really don’t care. My Oreo sundae was surprisingly tasty. A little bit like a Mcflurry, the softserve chocolate ice cream seem to go particularly well with the crunchy Oreo cookie bits. I devoured the whole thing in just a matter of minutes. Very satisfying for an afternoon treat!
