Riptide is a young club, so it has all the advantages and disadvantages that you’d expect. Less uptight and pushy than the bigger, more established clubs and a nice group of committed families. Their location at Liberty Station is also a plus, though for some reason they don’t set up full size soccer goals or scrimmage at practices, so even though they have strong coaches and teach great passing skills, the only time the kids see goals and chalked fields is at games, so they often suffer on set pieces, through balls, runs and crosses … things they don’t really practice. Definitely a club moving in the right direction and worth checking out. One word of caution, they tend to only have one team at every age group, so make sure they have enough players at your child’s age level, and ask what division they’ll be playing in. Depending on your child’s age, they could be playing anything from Presidio AA-C to SDDA. And with only one team, there’s no place to move up if your child has the skills for another level(or if he/she needs to build skills at a less competitive level). But if they have a strong team at your age level, Riptide is a great option in Point Loma.

Sorry to say not what the club used to be. Ripofftide now. Signed son up to play last Fall with clear expectations(expressed in email) about a season followed by a January tournament. Our son committed to making soccer his priority, over baseball, during the Spring. Ripofftide decided not to play a tournament. That meant no games after the middle of November even though we’d paid through March. No refund. Ripofftide insisted that training was value for our money. Training for what? They had no games scheduled. Basically, our 13 year old has more integrity than Ripofftide does.

Love the club… Like the concept, they have only being going a short time so does have to iron out a few wrinkles… my kids do both club and rec league, and after being extremely disappointed with another local club was relieved to find a club not just after your money and actually have coaches that understand the game and had played at a reasonable level. Team play is certainly fostered here and they want you to enjoy the game, parents are also involved. They did great in their first year.
