3.5 stars for pretty standard mom and pop phở shop. Phở broth was a bit sweeter than I was used to but everything tasted delicious. The servings were large and meat was tender. The shop workers were kind and prompt. Extra bonus for a spotless bathroom!

My favorite little spot for Vietnamese food in Sports Arena/Point Loma area. Great prices, and good portions on all the dishes. Runs by a sweet lady and her daughter who is also very nice. The menu is a bit more limited but all the essential Vietnamese dishes are there such as phở, bun, rice dishes, even banh mi and all are great.

3.5 stars Was I initially scared off by the low ratings and not-so-good reviews? Yes, of course. But, we don’t have many phở options available in our area, especially if we’re dining later in the evening. So it was, one cold, winter’s night, that we walked through the front door of this teeny-tiny shop in search of some good phở(or, decent, at the very least). We were the only ones in the place when we walked in. I wasn’t too worried — it was almost 9pm, after all. But, at least it was clean and smelled good in there. The only two people working that night — who I’m assuming were the owners — were friendly and quick about taking our orders. I was actually a bit surprised by how small the menu is. I guess I’m just used to seeing the overwhelming options that places like Phở Ca Dao provide, but that’s not to say I couldn’t find anything to eat. I actually went with the Meatball Phở order, and my husband got their meat combo phở, which basically came with everything, including tripe. We also ordered egg rolls, of course, because duh. There are a few things that surprised me about our meal that evening. The first is that they kept the front door wide open, even though it was freezing that night.(YES, it does TOO get cold in San Diego!) She even made a comment about the weather, but never made a move to close the door. The second is that there was no background muzak or anything to fill the silence. While I don’t like being drowned out by bad tunes, I don’t particularly like hearing myself chew, either. We could hear the two of them talking(and laughing, which was sweet) with each other all night. I couldn’t understand a thing they were saying, of course, but it still felt like I was eavesdropping. Plus, when you can hear the water hitting the pots and pans when they’re cleaning up dishes in the back… well, the ambiance alters, you know? The third is that the egg rolls came out *after* our phở. It’s supposed to be an appetizer — a starter — but it came out last. Not a huge deal, but so different from what I’m accustomed to. And finally, the last surprising thing was that they never checked on us, not once, after the food was delivered. I sat there with an empty water glass for almost the entirety of the meal, and even when she came out to get the bowls and deliver the check(even with a polite request from me), the water was never refilled. Did I mention that we were still the only ones in the restaurant at that time? But, despite all that, I actually did like the food. My phở was the perfect size, and the broth was very flavorful. My husband loved his phở, as well, and couldn’t stop talking about how good he thought it was. The egg rolls were good — not spectacular, but still good. All in all, I think we would come back again. The proprietors were sweet and friendly, and the food came out quickly(cuz we were the only ones there, haha). Plus, the price was really reasonable. Just… they need to work on service a bit, and maybe invest in a small stereo for the dining area. We’ve seen so many restaurants come and go in this spot, so it must be a difficult to keep a business open here. I do hope they survive for a bit, and that they work out some of the kinks along the way.

Saw this place while I was driving through Point Loma and made a mental note to come back and try it. Made a special trip back to Point Loma again just to try out the place around 7:30pm. Mind you Unilocal indicated that they close at 9pm but when we got there it seemed like they were getting ready to close. I asked again what time they close and we were told they close at 8pm! The lady was nice enough and told us we have time. Concept: You can choose to «Build Your Own Phở» or choose from the«Specialties»(i.e. Phở Dac Biet, Phở Tai, etc.) I ordered Phở Dac Biet which was $ 8 and something change-a little more than what I’m used to paying elsewhere. Which I understood the pricing due to the area of business so I didn’t really mind. My friend build his own phở with a couple of choices of meat and steak on the side. I got my phở and it was huge! Then my he got his phở w/steak on the side and we were excited to dig in! He dug in and there was no meat in his bowl! Just noodles and soup… We notified the lady and her daughter. It seemed as though they’ve have acknowledged the mistake. We expected them to bring the meat over but we waited and waited… We were almost done eating and came to a conclusion that the meat was not coming… smh…As far as flavor of the phở, it was mediocre. We ordered a few other things there and they were ok… I had high hopes for this place but I was a tad disappointed… Won’t be back.

Little corner cheap and cheesy Vietnamese restaurant. First impression is not extraordinary. The lady running the restaurant cannot explain the dishes and the jasmine tea is just low quality bag tea. I ordered a Kung Pao beef with a soup and my friend ordered shrimp fried noddles. The soup is good but too salty The beef is a little bit overcooked and fade in spite of apparent spices. Same thong for the shrimps. The bill is low and it is an inexpensive restaurant but I m disappointed and do not plan to come back

I like this place, as an asian guy I do give this place some credit as a mom/pop place with decent noodle dishes etc. A little more home cooked vs chain/americanized asian food. place is clean, peiople friendly, good prices. Ill be coming back every now and then. I will say though sometimes I have gotten wrong orders on my take out etc, nothing big but hence minus 1 star

Phở Thyme is a new addition to the neighborhood. And of course, as a small Mom & Pop business and as a Vietnamese spot, I had really wanted to like it. I was getting work done on my car at a nearby mechanic and decided to grab some phở while I waited. Phở Tai(Beef Phở with thinly sliced rare steak) is my go-to gauge on Phở joints. There’s not much you can hide with it — so if your name has the word«Phở» in it, your Phở Tai should be on point. I arrived at about 11am and was the only patron in the small, but nice décor and clean restaurant. I was warmly greeted and had my pick of tables to choose from. Service was friendly and attentive. When my Phở Tai came out, I was rather surprised. The broth was really dark & oily and the Tai(the beef) suffered from some sever freezer burn on the edges. It left the edges of the meat really dark and absolutely unappetizing.(The pic I had posted couldn’t really capture it). Granted, there was a lot of Tai, I couldn’t find more than 2 – 3 slices that wasn’t freezer burned. Bummer. As for the rest of the bowl, it had a generous amount of Banh Phở(noodles) in the bowl but the broth was really salty. I was surprised of that since it was so early in the morning and usually the Phở stock is fresh at that time of day. The rest of the menu was quite extensive with various rice dishes, appetizers, vermicelli, and noodle dishes. Cost was fair although they do set their prices on how to «customize» your Phở bowl.(ie. meat balls, etc.) Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be back.

I am in love with the flavors and seasoning of their pork skewers! Everything I’ve tried, so far, is delicious and keeps me craving more. The service is truly excellent. I hope they continue to stay in business, despite the economy, for as long as possible.

New Phở spot in point loma. It said grand opening so decided to try out a new phở restaurant aside from our usual spot. Really nice girl that works in the front and service was good for the most part minus a few things. The phở was good large portions! Beef was very flavorful with lots of noodles! The price for a regular bowl of phở was 6.25 where you can build your own and add up to 3 variety of meats. Not so good stuff: Unfortunately they forgot my appetizer and the meat selections bc it was busy. Small restaurant maybe about ten tables. No grand opening specials I got charge 1.25 for nuoc beo. Most places don’t charge. Overall it tasted great people were friendly. There was also a TV with NFL network so I would say its more of a 3.5÷5 stars since its better than most spots in Point Loma they just need to be on point with their customers orders and maybe offer a grand opening special then we’re talking!

Fast & great service! They’re super generous with the meats, which is rare for most restaurants. Their spring rolls are really big too, and good enough for a meal! I got the Mi Xao(combination egg noodles) and the shaking beef. I like that the restaurant is really clean and the waiters actually speak English!

Since I’ve been to this are I’ve been looking to a GOOD phở place. Happy to say that this is the best in point loma. The flavor pops and the noodles and meat are spot on. Other places around here are ok but just taste cheap and rushed.

This is a new Vietnamese restaurant in Point Loma. They’re name touts phở, but they offer other noodle dishes too. I came in to try the phở, but ended up ordering the House Mi Xao(soft egg noodles with mixed meatsies and seafood) plus an order of spring rolls. I came in after 2 so it wasn’t busy at all. The service was fast and friendly. The spring rolls were pretty big and the ingredients within we’re jut right. The Mi Xao was good, but they used more oil than I like when it come to fried noodles. I probably wouldn’t order it again, but it made a good enough impression on me that I would definitely come back to try their phở some time. See you soon, Phở Thyme.
