The people who have posted about this palce are beyond ridiculous. Any self respecting person who has ever had an authentic cheesesteak in Philadelphia would recognize the quality at Philly Grill. First, the biggest factor is that they use Amoroso’s rolls. Any cheesesteak made without them is uncivilized. Second, they use real rib-eye steak. Complaints about the menu are baffling. If you want a deli, go to a deli. Food gems such as this place do one thing, and they do it extremely well. I will be a repeat customer and only hope that anyone who reads this will give it a shot instead of dismissing Philly Grill based on a few people’s whiney, irrational reviews.

The truth is simple. I got into a «food fight» regarding this place in 2010 with another Unilocaler. The place is out of business… Other places I mentioned are still in business. I will rest my case, my street creds and my authenticity! LOL! RIPPHILLYGRILL!

OK… I wish I could give this place six stars! It is not the fanciest place in town, but boy, do they know how to make a REAL Philly Cheesesteak! The guy who was working(the owner?) was super nice, too. He cooked for us and offered for us to eat there even though he was closing in 10 minutes. I grew up an hour north of Philadelphia and went to Pat’s whenever I went into the city. Been skimming through all of the so-called«Philly Cheesesteak» places in San Diego for years. Usually end up with some skinny-a** roll with a teasoon or so worth of meat. These guys use Amoroso rolls, have Cheese Wiz on the menu, and fill the roll with lots of meaty goodness. They even have birch beer… yum! Oh yea… the Chicken Cheesesteak is pretty darn good, too. Thank You… we will be back for sure! Now… the search for real East Coast pizza continues! BTW…I have to say something about some of the other reviews here… please don’t give a place a poor rating because it is not close enough to your house or because you let your Living Social coupon expire. Rate them based on their food and service. Also, if you’ve never had a real Philly Cheesesteak, don’t give a bad review because it was too greasy or too expensive. It is supposed to be greasy and you get what you pay for!

I love this place. My fiancé and I grab sandwiches on our way home all the time. He usually get the original and I love the BBQ and the French dip. The juice for the French dip is heavenly! And they give you just the right amount for a nine inch. The only reason I am giving this four stars is because today I ordered delivery because I was too sick to go out but I was hungry. It took them an hour to make my sandwich and delivery it. I live a block away. So while it is a great Philly, unless you want to wait forever I suggest you pick it up yourself.

Dank Living next door to some phillie guys for a few years taught me two things. What a real cheese steak tastes like in Phillidelphia and why no place worth getting one from will be open on October 29th for ma y more years. Hint. If theres no cheese wiz on the menu, your at a subway. Or might as well be. Run for your life. This joint has a supoib selection. Returning is in my near future.

I decided to explore take out options in North Park whilst feeling a little heart broken. I checked out the menu of Philly Grill, and saw greek salad and chicken philly subs — two of my favorites. In order to have my food delivered, I had to spend $ 20 pre-tax. Initially, I had the 12″ original combo(fries + drink) and a medium Greek salad but fell just short of $ 20. I upgraded to the large salad, added at 20% tip, and was good to go with a total of $ 30.88. Kind of pricey for fast food, but I had to take care of my broken heart and order delivery, which is never cheap. The food wasn’t bad. The philly was huge, had plenty of meat and tasted okay. The fries were okay, but kinda greasy. The greek salad was quite large and came with tons of dressing… which was more like the greek yogurt sauce I’ve had than any Greek vinaigrette or dressing that I’ve had. I finished a fraction of the large portions. There was absolutely nothing terrible about the food, but nothing great enough for me to suggest a trip there in the near future. Delivery was fast, and the service was friendly. I’d recommend it to others, depending on your tastes. It wasn’t my favorite, but others may enjoy it.

Growing up, my Philly Cheesesteak go-to was Voltero’s in Clairemont. Don’t get me wrong, I still love that spot but this is just so convenient! It’s right in my neighborhood! My sisters were both born in Philadelphia and my Mom and Dad had lived there for a few years before that, so they were always searching for a good spot to pick up a cheeseteak. Luckily they discovered that place in clairemont, but I can’t wait to bring them here! It is in a sorta-seedy part of North Park(just east of the bridge between Park and Florida, across the street from that divey gay bar and Fstreet) but who gives a crap?! I don’t. Their sandwiches are delicious. Tender meat, fluffy bread, flavorful peppers, onions, and who could forget the cheese?! MmMmmmmm… I don’t eat these things often because I want to live past 70, but every now and then I indulge in one of these beasts! Great prices and the staff is awesome too. Parking can be a challenge sometimes, but when isn’t it a challenge in this part of town?!

Still loving this place! I know I’ve done a review on this place before, but I HAD to get back on and do another review! This place is great! Good prices, authentic cheesesteaks, guick prep time and a friendly staff! I love it so much I took door hangers to pass out to my neighbors! I can’t get enough of this place! IFYOUBELIEVETHATREFERRALSISTHEBESTCOMPLIMENT(which I do), ASKHIMFORSOMEFLYERSANDPASSTHEMOUT! Let’s make sure they stick around!

Came here with a complimentary $ 10 Groupon and I am so excited I got to try this place out. In my hunt for the best Philadelphia Cheesesteak in the West Coast, this is the closest authentic cheesesteak shop that compares to the ones in Philadelphia. They use Amoroso rolls and cheese whiz, whats not to love :) I Ordered an Original Philly and cheese fries. It was delicious and hot off the grill. One thing they would better their cheesesteaks isif they could marinade/flavor their meat a little bit more. I felt it was a little dry, but that’s my only complaint.

My sig. other and I ordered the the mushroom philly with ribeye steak. It was so fresh, hot and yummy and the lady who made it even gave us extra meat since we were sharing 1. The meat wasn’t flavorful enough but it was still really good and their mushrooms were so juicy! We’ll definitely come again especially since they always have groupon/yelp deals :)

Unilocal clearly states that this business was still open until 8:30. We redeem our deal on Groupon and came here at 7:45pm. I called in to make my order in advance and notice that they were not picking up… UGHM… strange. Comments to the owners: PLEASEUPDATE your information online and on other social media you use. Unilocalers: call in before you come here. Who knows, this business run on their own time.

My friend and I came here Monday, 6÷4÷2012, to use up a certificate. I’m so glad we came here because this place is worth paying the full price! The place is a bit run down and is your typical hole-in-the-wall, but as some of us know: those are the best places! The staff is really friendly and don’t make you feel stupid for asking silly questions(like the guy who asked if he could get the peppers from the pepper bar… they just responded friendly manner). It was nice because it felt like you’re in a mom and pop store. So cozy! Notes: 1. Parking is very limited because you have to park on the street, but it seems like the parking in front of the store seems to be generally easy especially if you plan to take it to go. 2. The sandwiches came out HOT! It’s hard to resist inhaling this amazing food, but it’s best to try to hold off for a minute. Even though I burned myself and thought it was totally worth it… it was just that good! My friend and I shared two philly sandwiches: mushroom philly with provolone and mushroom garlic philly with swiss. I really loved the tender meat with the delicious cheese mixed with soft mushrooms and grilled onions placed in a nice soft roll. I really loved the provolone! The taste was a bit different than normal because it had a stronger taste than other places, but it complimented the rest of the sandwich perfectly. The garlic mushroom philly had quite a bit of roasted/grilled garlic on it that was tasty, but the mushroom philly with provolone was so delicious in comparison that I would probably order that one instead. Overall, I love how the food came out piping hot! So fresh and delicious! The people there are super friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to come back again to satisfy my craving for an awesome philly sandwich!

Now, I am not about to sit here and claim that Philly Grill has the«best cheese steaks in town» or anything, as I have only tried a handful. I will say, this is the only place that has gotten repeat business from me on the cheese steak front. I have never had an authentic Philly from PA, but I did order the original Philly, and got it with Cheese Whiz. I thought it was excellent. I have brought many friends to this spot, and they all enjoyed it as well. I am not much for adding peppers and whatnot, but some of my friends did, and they swear it makes it better. I also tried this place due to a Unilocal deal offer, and since then I have been back at least 10 times. Great advertising move… that just goes to show you, the food speaks for itself. Go, enjoy :)

Best cheesesteak in San Diego, hands down. I moved here from Ohio a couple of years ago, and I’ve been looking for a good cheesesteak ever since. Everyone raved about Gaglione Brothers, and even though it’s good, it just tasted so… commercial. Like a step up from any of the mall cheesesteak chains. What I was looking for was something that felt authentic and homemade, so when I saw a Groupon for Philly Grill, I decided to give it a try. I had the chicken philly, and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the cook using actual chicken(not those weird patties) to make it. It was definitely the best chicken cheesesteak I’ve had. My husband had the garlic mushroom cheesesteak, he raved over it, so I had to have a bite. It did not disappoint — all the flavors melded together really well. It may be considered a hole in the wall, but I’ve always been of the opinion that the best food comes from hole in the walls. As long as there’s an «A» on the window, I’m good. I’ll definitely be going back when another cheesesteak craving hits.

Bought a Groupon for this place because at the time it had 4 stars and literally it’s less than 2 blocks from my house. In fact, I ordered the food over the phone and picked it up as I was taking my pup on his afternoon walk. My groupon came with two 9 inch subs and fries. I ordered the Chicken BLT sub and the Mushroom and Garlic sub. Both we’re flavorful and meaty. I think I liked the Chicken BLT better. The fries we’re tasty but a little soggy by the time I got home. The bread the subs came in we’re also a little soggy and the sandwich itself was pretty oily. I probably could have laid a handprint on my table. Overall, it was MeeeeeH. It wasn’t great enough to be jumping up and down for but it wasn’t so bad that I wouldn’t go back to try the others. They had a variety of different subs. The classic hoagie was initially calling my name. Great service and generous on the portions. Neighborhood little shop thats walking distance from my place gives it a bonus!

Original Philly w/white American and onions and fries. They had Bubble Up soda and Tasty Kakes! The sandwich was tasty, plenty of meet and onions were nicely cooked/softened. My only complaint is the white american, lol. That sounds funny. I didn’t like the ‘fake’ cheese flavor, shoulda went with regular american or cheddar, maybe. Nice people but apparently calling your order in is more efficient. I waited about 15 minutes and could’ve done without that.

This place is A-OK! Got the 12″ Original with Onions and White American Cheese with fries. The sandwich was very tasty; tender meat, cheese was melted in nicely. The fries were not completely soggy, they were okay, i wish they would have been fried longer, but a single order is large enough to share between 2 people. Overall a good sandwich, they have peppers which you can top it with, which adds a nice touch of heat. The place is small and in a not so glamourous neighborhood and it’s all street parking. The price is right on par with other Cheese Steak places, so for me, I’ll just stick to the spots that are closer to me. It’s a good sandwich but not so much better(or cheeper) for me to drive past my normal spot to come here. If i lived in the area or if it was on my way to or from work i would definitely make a pit stop.
