Tried my first Kava last night. This place has great vibe. There was a DJ in the back and the hostess was very helpful and friendly. Cool place to kick back.

I am a kava drinker so I have particular expectations. The regular kava was not strong but you can add shots of kava. I prefer natural kava but if you must have it sweetened they can add guava nectar. The bartender tonight was very nice but they can’t make tea bc the tea kettle broke and they are out of coconut drinks so I just got a plain kava. There is a DJ set up. Interior is groovy and good décor although a bit small. I love kava wherever I can get it so don’t take my word for it try it as many places as you can and see for yourself.

This place is absolutely amazing! You walk in and can just feel the good vibes. It’s super relaxed environment, they do open mic nights Tuesday, ladies night Wednesday, and happy hour till 7! The kava is relaxing and peaceful, it just makes you feel good about life and let’s you breath after a busy day. No alcoholic content, and safe to drive after! What else can do all of that? I highly recommend giving this place a try! Be adventurous:)

Honestly… I have no idea what to say. But I feel compelled to say something. During our most recent trip to San Diego, our resident San Diego friend told us we had to try kava. Feeling adventurous, we said sure, why not. We walk into Mystic Water Kava Bar, and I feel like I’ve been transported to some strange land. There are giant(fake) trees, the lighting is dim, there are people playing music/singing(it was apparently also open mic night), couches to lounge on near the front, a bar in the middle. A girl was celebrating her 10th birthday there that night as well. Wait, a 10-year-old girl? At a bar? Where has our friend taken us? Turns out this place actually allows kids because kava is not alcohol. Alright. So what is kava? If you Google the term«kava,» you will get this: a narcotic sedative drink made in Polynesia from the crushed roots of a plant of the pepper family. Whoa there. Narcotic sedative? Of course, we looked this up only after having drunken the kava. The kava«tea’ that was served to us was described in the following way: it is made from the roots of a plant from Fiji and can have various effects on people. It makes some people feel super relaxed, it makes others more alert. The more you drink kava, the less it will take for the effects to take hold since your body becomes used to the kava and doesn’t need to break it down as much(aka, the first time you drink it, you’ll probably need 4 – 6 shots worth before you feel something). Oh, and it tastes like dirt. At least, that’s everything that our bartender(kava-tender?) told us. Okay. Let’s do this. It came, served in coconut shells. it was a thick mess of brown. We tried it. Gulped it down(Yes, it does indeed taste like dirt; actually reminds me of some Chinese herbal medicine. You know, the super sludgy and dirty kind.) Ate a pineapple slice to chase(which honestly did nothing for my taste buds). Drank another just for kicks. Waited for something magical to happen… but nothing ever did. In short, I’m not exactly sure what happened, but now I can say that I’ve tried kava.

A friend and I were curious about this«Kava» craze we had been hearing about so we popped into this place to check it out. WHATANAMBIANCE! This place feels like a pimped out cave. Faux tree branches criss cross the ceilings and the low lighting automatically kicks up the romance factor. I was there with a good friend so we obviously weren’t looking for that but it was a wonderful experience non the less. The bartender, Amanda, was freaking awesome! She made us feel at home and took the time to explain to us first timers the whole process. Kava is very much an acquired taste but it lives up to the hype. You should definitely be told to have a full tummy and NOALCOHOL whatsoever, at least your first time. I am not a big drinker and had one beer previous to getting there and I was extremely hung over the next day. It was an easy hang over to nurse and although I HATE drinking because of the after affects, I am ready for my next trip to the cave!!! They do yoga on Saturday at 11 and they are open til 4am!!! They even have games to play and have a live band most nights. This is the type of place you want to LIVE in. Visit once and you will be a regular, I promise!!!
