The Friends of Famosa Slough are a group of concerned citizens whose goal is to restore Famosa Slough as a natural wetlands preserve. They work hard to prevent the degradation of the slough, act as a community voice on restoration activities, are a valuable information source to public agencies, and take on assorted restoration projects. Friends of Famosa Slough is a

Very similar to the Montalvo Street Native Plant Garden, is the Mentone Street Native Plant Garden. In fact, they are one block apart from each other – where the two streets dead end along Famosa Slough. Mentone Street Native Plant Garden is somewhat smaller in size than her sister garden but it still fulfills the aim of the Friends group to restore degraded hillsides that border the area with a variety of drought-tolerant native plants. I enjoyed resting on a smal woodenl bench that overlooks the Gardens and the Slough. The view here on this day after some September rains was gorgeous!
The Friends of Famosa Slough acquired this land to restore and rehabilitate the Gardens by receiving some grant monies that paid for the property. For those of you who love nature and are appreciative of saving and maintaining native wetlands, a visit to the Mentone Street Native Plant Garden will be a
