I made mistakes during the call about some of my information due to misunderstandings I have had with other CU calls.
She seemed annoyed. She explained what the CU likes to see for an auto loan, and the requirements didn’t really match up for the car I had in mind. It is pretty hard to find a 2003 – 2004 year car that is under 75k miles. Prices will soar up at that kind of low mileage. Thanks but no thanks, I have had better experiences with other CU calls recently.

I have a mortgage loan with this credit union. It has been nothing but a pain since I got it. The employees are not trained properly and it’s mistake after mistake. They ended up reporting something to my credit when it was MFCU’s error. I was told it would be corrected and again I got a letter in the mail claiming a mistake I made… huh…it’s one thing after the other with this credit union and everyday I keep hoping this mortgage loan would get transferred to another institution. My advice to others reading this don’t join this credit union and look elsewhere. You need a credit union you can rely on and this one is not it

Maybe I’m biased, but I think Mission Fed is the BEST credit union in San Diego. I have my car loan through Mission Fed, we got a killer rate (2.25% for 6 years) and I took advantage of their Autoland car-​buying service where I got exactly what I wanted, with the tow package and upgrades, delivered to my local branch in 2 days. No haggling with car dealership people, no internet searching, just «Here is my budget, here is what I want, please deliver it ASAP» and POW! They do. Great customer service, great product lines, no hidden fees, no scary big-​bank tactics. Mission Fed is only in San Diego, so it is FUBU: For us, by us! Hahaha. If you’re not a credit union member, you should become one right now, and stop throwing your money down the toilet with the other guys. :)

After all the calls and writings, even a call to the PR, I am stuck with a FEE that was handed down to me. MFCU would blame it on the technology and member’s actions or member’s mistakes, to charge the FEE. Instead of working WITH their members and working FOR their members, they would let the members become pro-​active and take their own actions to resolve the issues, you have to ask for things that you don’t know or they will not explain them to you. MFCU used to be a very kind and friendly entity, helped their members is every issues, and I valued their services. Now it has evolved into some thing else and is not the MFCU that I used to know. Is this how MFCU want to make money and treating their members?

Bought a home in Sept 2007 and got a loan through MFCU. I thought it would be a great relationship since I have been banking with them for close to 20 years and I have been happy with my checking and savings.
I’m not convinced that the focus here is customer service. Payments are cumbersome and inconvenient for no apparent reason… e.g. if you don’t use the special envelope they provide in the monthly invoice sent to you, then the payment gets misrouted even though the correct address and department information are on the envelope (right address, wrong envelope). I pay my bills on-​line, saves me a stamp and having to write out a check… but that’s not possible with the mortgage… it seems like a quick fix on MFCU’s end but I guess since most members pay out of their existing MFCU accounts (electronic debit) there is no incentive to make the rest of us happy. (We have a joint WAMU account and a joint MFCU doesn’t work out, so that’s why the dilemma).
I recently asked for an escrow analysis and was told that the supplemental tax notice from the County of San Diego wasn’t official enough to warrant changing the assessed value to the purchase price of the loan (we bought the house for $ 70,000 less than the previously assessed value)…umm, isn’t it kind of obvious that taxes will be collected based on the Sept 2007 purchase price? i.e. the loan you funded and we’re paying on… I wouldn’t say we’re exactly asking you to take my word for it… you can figure it out too!!! But no, they want me to wait until the new notice comes out in mid-September…in the meantime we are way overpaying into the escrow account, which is frustrating and aggravating.
Their escrow analysis is based on bogus numbers and no one seems to care or have common sense.
You can do better in a mortgage company.
