I have seen a lot of shrinks. Since I was began treatment for depression in 1996, I’ve seen 16 different MD psychiatrists(both inpatient and outpatient), most of which I would not recommend at all, some of which I would recommend in specific circumstances, and 3 that I would recommend without hesitation. Dr Lardon is someone I can recommend unequivocally… with a footnote.(Is that a contradiction?) Dr Lardon’s knowledge of psychopharmacology is first-rate. For those of us who have«been there, done that» with every psych med coming and going(and a few experimental ones), Dr Lardon is both comfortable and appropriate in filling the role of our primary psychiatric practitioner. He is well connected within his field(and in other medical circles as well), and has an extensive and impressive background of training with some of the biggest names in psychiatry. If there is a medical intervention for a psychiatric illness, Dr Lardon will know about it(or at least know someone who does). His knowledge in other fields of medicine seems to be well beyond what most other psychiatrists are familiar with as well. But as we all know, what a psychiatrist knows is only a portion of getting the right fit. At least as important — possibly more so – is whether a relationship of trust and rapport can be established, which depends on the personality and motivation of both the client and the provider. While Dr Lardon is a compassionate man who truly wishes to help his patients to the best of his abilities, he is a no-nonsense kind of guy who calls it how he sees it, and doesn’t beat around the bush. For some patients, this may come off as overbearing, unfriendly, or perhaps even aggressive. But for those who appreciate this kind of approach, it is a welcome breath of fresh air in a field where providers too commonly walk on eggshells to avoid offending or distancing patients. Personally, I prefer Dr Lardon’s approach. It allows me to be more open and assertive myself, which is key for the best care possible. So for those of you who also prefer this approach, I can completely recommend Dr Lardon. For those who don’t, I don’t want to give the impression that he is insensitive, condescending, or offensive. I only mean that he is compassionate but not coddling. Whether that is a good fit for you depends on your own preferences. Dr Lardon’s office staff is a pleasure to work with. They always greet me by name when I arrive and are friendly but not overly sweet. The wait, both in terms of making an appointment as well as waiting room time, are both minimal. I’ve never had a problem making an appointment, and I usually wait no more than 5 minutes past my appointment time. Additionally, Dr Lardon makes himself available by email for issues that may arise between appointments. Potential clients should take note, however, that Dr Lardon ACCEPTSNOINSURANCE. However, the staff are happy to provide you with a receipt that can be used to make a claim to your insurance yourself. My insurance does not reimbursement for my visits, but despite that, I have been a patient since 2013 and have reason to stop seeing Dr Lardon. I believe his base rate is $ 100 per 15-minute session, but be sure to check with the staff when you call for an appointment. A final note: Dr Lardon is a great psychiatrist, but is probably better suited to patients moving from another provider than for those seeking treatment for the first time. He really shines with complex and chronic cases. While I’m sure he is competent with those who are new to psychiatry as well, I believe those who have seen the limit of other shrinks’ capabilities will benefit the most from seeing Dr Lardon.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Michael Lardon for over 10 years now. He is absolutely incredible. Not only is he a brilliant and world-renowned psychiatrist, he is extremely compassionate and truly cares about what’s best for his patients. He’s an accomplished best selling author and he works with famous athletes and professionals all around the world, yet he still maintains his practice in San Diego where he treats his patients with the utmost care and professionalism. His entire staff are all very friendly as well. It is difficult for me to put into words how much I adore this man both as a doctor and a human being. If you’re looking for the best psychiatrist, whether for yourself, your child, your spouse, a friend, or anyone else, send them to Dr. Michael Lardon. He saved my life.
