Two words: breakfast burrito! YUM. A friend and I decided to meet here today for lunch. Neither of us had been before. We both ordered the potato breakfast burrito and loved it. Generous portions and fast, friendly service. What’s not to love? I took the other half of my meal home and heated it up for dinner. Thanks to all the previous Unilocalers who gave Mauricio’s good reviews and mentioned the breakfast burrito. It truly was delish. And a special shout-out to the folks who work there. Their smiles and friendly demeanor made a good meal even better.

My husband and I recently tried Mauricio’s for a late night craving of carne asada fries. These were delicious!!! Their carne asada is well seasoned and the fries were crispy and delicious. Probably the best carne asada fries I’ve had in a long time. Today I picked up a few carne asada tacos which were delicious also. I think we found our new favorite Mexican spot :).

I really like their carne asada fries and the girl who works at the cashier is so sweet. They have pretty decent portions and they even give you chips if you dine in! I came here a couple years ago when it was still Gallegos, and I remember liking the food here. Decided to refresh my memory and was still not disappointed. Turns out that nothing has really changed about it, only the name. I got my usual order of carne asada fries, and when I got it, it was still just as beautiful as I remembered. The fries were fresh and crispy, and the carne asada was marinated pretty well. The only thing is that it gets a bit dry because they don’t put as much guacamole or sour cream to cover all the fries when you mix them, but that can be easily fixed by going to the salsa bar for some salsa, along with limes to squeeze onto it. It also doesn’t taste as salty as other places, but that can be a good or bad thing, depending on whether or not you like it like that. If you want it saltier, they have salt right at the table for you to add in yourself. Everyone is very friendly and they seem to value every one of their customers. Definitely check this place out for good food and good service.

My job transferred me to the Kearny Mesa area and just around the block from this taco place. Granted I eaten at most of the taco shops on Clairemont Blvd I thought I give this place a try. First time was a breakfast burrito and let me tell you the breakfast burrito was very good. My favorite food is Al Pastor since I got hooked on it from Taco’s El Gordo so Al Pastor or Adobada is pretty much all I order whether it be a taco, combo or burrito. I ordered a couple of Al Pastor taco’s just to see if the food is good and for the price they were good. They are not TJ size or from a spit but also not greasy with a flavorful kick. Passed my test so I will explore the menu since I am close by.

Most delicious Mexican food in San Diego! The level of service is superb and everything is made fresh to order. I come here frequently and am a huge fan of their tacos, breakfast burritos, and enchiladas. I’ve tried many other nearby taco shops not none come close to Mauricio’s #2.

Had a burrito and carne asada fries. being that I am a Mexican the food was tasty and good amounts. The burrito was filled with good stuff and not short changed and same for the fries. Two people can eat those puppies. Definitely recommend.

I really have to say this is probably one of the best taco shops I’ve been to. I live in the El Cajon area and when I’m around Kearney Mesa this is the place to got to I really enjoy the Carnitas Fries, the Carnitas Nachos, Carnitas Burrito, Breakfast Burrito, and Enchiladas. Some of the things aren’t on the menu but I guarantee you they’re really good. Honestly the two cooks Obed and Belisario really know what they’re doing, also the cashier Leticia was very nice and friendly she will mostly always have a smile on her face. One thing I really liked about this place was the hard work and dedication the workers put into this place, one time I went into this place and I remember seeing the cashier Leticia scrubbing the floor and the two cooks Obed and Belisario cleaning the kitchen and really putting some effort into the cleaning. To be honest the only cashier that I really think does her job is Leticia, she’ll never let the customer leave without a full stomach and a smile on their face. I really like this place I know I’ll be here soon.

I took my kids here after soccer practice at the Y. The portions were large and the gall at the front was very nice. She brought out an extra plate for my daughter to eat off of. My son, who is 4, ate half of the carne asada with chips and guac. I will be coming back here :)

The new kids on the block… Actually maybe the new menudo?(Aging myself here) this spot replaced gallegos, and while I never went there, this maybe my new mexican food spot. I have always been a lolitas/cotixan person, but the heat had me wanting to try somewhere closer. Enter mauricios #2. They specialize in carnitas but I had the carne asada fries on this visit. To say it could give lolitas a run for their money is an understatement. Crisp fries, abundant toppings, mexican coke in the cooler, and great service. I’m sold. My only complaints are that none of their variety of salsas really impressed me, but their seasoning doesn’t really leave a need for it. Also the AC was out so eating in may not be the best choice on a hot day. To sum it up, if you don’t want to drive across Clairemont for the others, and also don’t want wait in line, this is a great choice!

Specials are nice. Food is good. I always call in and they are pretty fast. Parking for this shopping center is a nightmare at lunch. Breakfast burrito is a fav but I do like their tacos as well. Not too salty on the meat. They have free chips and salsa.

Some of the best burritos I’ve had… The California burrito in particular, is excellent. The meat is cooked and seasoned nicely. nice and crispy fries. Excellent portion sizes as well. It’s definitely a good value for the price. I also like even the simple things here, such as the bean and cheese burritos. The service here is fast and friendly. It’s a small, and pretty dated place, but it’s not so bad for a quick bite. The free chips and salsa are great as well. This place has definitely worked it’s way into my top 3 Mexican joints in the area!

This place is hands down my favorite mexican food restaurant. Their food is fairly priced and is delicious. I’m picky about my mexican food… it must taste authentic or it’s a no go. This place definitely gets the job done. They people are friendly and they make great food. I almost didn’t review them so that I can keep it all to myself, but sharing is caring, so there you have it. You won’t be disappointed. They are awesome. ’nuff said.

This place offers up perfect California burritos. The fries are crispy and the carne asada is flavorful. Previous reviewers have commented on there being too much sour cream used in the burrito. I wouldn’t mind if there was more. You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients. The dining area is clean and there’s a pretty good salsa bar with complimentary chips as well. The customer service is great. The people that work here are always smiling and seem to have bright attitudes. Nice neighborhood taco shop.

Never disappoints!!! I drive ALLLLLLLL the way from El Cajon City to Gallegos #2 about twice a month. I recommend EVERYTHING here, food is ALWAYS fresh, customer service is always professional and fast! My favorite part is the salsa bar(chunky salsa is the best!!!) & how the meat is cut thin, my biggest pet peeve at other taco shops is that the meat is always too big and thick to chew or they give you the fat, here that’s never the case! The manager Obed is really nice and the cashier Letty always has a smile on her face, thank you for never letting my family down Gallegos #2!!!

Ah, Gallegos #2! The quality of the food is just as good as the first and the customer service is even friendlier than it’s City Heights location. I do not care for their salsa bar since it’s on ice and it kind of takes away the freshness you usually get at the original location. Also, the Mexican fountain drinks aren’t as good. The place has a nice layout and the surrounding area is good. Of course, the value is amazing as well. Overall, I’m a pretty big fan of Gallego’s and their commitment to freshness. If you are in the area and are looking for some great mexican food, this is the place to go.

Among the most amazing California Burritos I’ve ever had! The fries, narrow cut and tender. The meat, medium cooked with a hint of pink in the middle of many slices. The sour cream: ACTUAL sour cream! Salsa: Very flavorful! When I received the burrito from the woman behind the counter, I immediately felt its weight and knew I was in for something good. IT’s the only thing I ate today of any substance, and I remain satiated. Even with guac added, it’s well under $ 7. And they had free chips and a great salsa bar!

High quality cuts of beef and authentic home made flavors(not too salty, high quality ingredients, traditional cooking methods) make this place stand out from the multitude of taco shops in the Clairemont /Kearny area. We had: *Big plate(2 rolled tacos, 1 beef taco, bean tostada): crunchy tacos, nice high quality shredded beef in the tacos, tasty beans. *Carne Asada burrito: juicy, tender, high quality beef; large size, fresh guacamole, pico de gallo salsa. *Caldo de res(beef soup): high quality beef is clearly evident here, really tender. Salsa bar with 5 types of freshly made salsas and complimentary spicy carrots and chips. Definitely coming back to try other menu items given the quality of the food above. It will be my new«go to» taco shop and Mexican food and worth driving past the nearby taco shops to go to Gallegos.

I’ve been to Gallegos a couple of times already, but I have definitely been lagging on writing reviews… maybe that’s why I’m not a Unilocal!Elite or even a candidate. It’s all good, I’m okay with Unilocal!mediocrity! Alright, on to the review. The place is in a little strip mall, but I think that it has the best green salsa… hands down. The make different varieties of salsa(Mild Red, Hot, Chunky Red, Chunky Green, and Green with avocado) of which the Chunky Green salsa I would use with the complimentary chips. I would go with the Green salsa with avocado with any food items there. As far as the food is concerned, the prices are pretty reasonable. I’ve had their Conga burrito(Carne Asada, Rice, Beans) and just their plain Bean & Cheese burrito. The portion size is large enough to fill my appetite and get me by for at least 3 – 4 hours. Carne asada was cooked wonderfully and I would definitely go back there again. If you are looking for a Mexican spot. If I could just go inside and nosh on the chips and salsa, I would cause it’s that good… well at least in the opinion of this Unilocaler!

It’s an ok place for what it serves. I had a pastor taco and a fish taco. Both were just fine. The fish taco had a nice crunch but was still soft. I don’t think I’ve had the fish part of the taco ever done to that degree of goodness. It did have a bit of a fishy taste which I still haven’t decided whether it was a good thing or not. The pastor taco was probably adobada, but the meat was seasoned well and rather tender. It was a pretty big taco considering what I am used to. Topped with a dollop of guacamole and onion/cilantro. Salsa bar was nice and clean, with an almost«great» selection of hot sauces. Id give this place 3.5 stars so far. Right off of the 163 at Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I will be back again to try some of their other stuff.

I tried there nachos with everything on it. It did have everything on it when it came out. I really liked that it had a lot of meat on it when I got near the bottom. A lot of places pack on the beans and give very little meat so its almost gone by the times your more than half way through it. The salsas are really good. I like they have a number system to tell you how hot it is. Service is friendly. Décor is almost like 80% of the taco shops I have been in before. It is rather plain but I am paying for food, not ambiance. I would definitely stop in here again.
