I’m giving Mama’s Grill 3 stars based on the Grubbin’ Greek Pita I had today. It was decent, but I’m definitely not going to end up in some«12-step program» over their food. Pros: Toasted pita bread, sort of Panini-style tasted good. The«Secret spread», feta cheese, kalamata olives all tasted fine. Gyro meat: Pretty good & well-seasoned. Cons: Put more Gyro meat! For $ 8.35 including tax, with no side dishes, I would expect a smidgen more meat.

Don’t eat breakfast here unless you want a breakfast burrito with black avocados and your eggs over hard and spilling everywhere. Not worth the $ 8.

Not really a good place on all fronts. Had the gyro pita, pretty uneventful, but maybe my mistake ordering gyros at a sandwich shop. Service needs a lot of help. Stupid but I’ll put it out there, I ordered a chocolate chip cookie, got oatmeal raisin instead but didn’t realize till I took a bite. They refused to change it out. Really remarkable actually.

I am so bummed! I used to love this place, but the service has gone downhill. They changed the menu, and got rid of my favorite sandwich. I asked them if they would still make it for me since they still have the ingredients, and they refused(could be understandable since they didn’t know how to ring it up). I ended up picking the hot pastrami which was the most similar. When I got it back to the office, it was a cold roast beef sandwich. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back here(regardless of the fact that I have many rewards points saved up). Such a disappointment!

Driving around the area. hubster was craving a Rachel(Reuben with Slaw) and so we ended up at Mama’s Grill on Saturday. Apparently Unilocal is definitely doing this business well… it was funny to hear that we were among 3 other groups that were first time diners that came across this restaurant just through Unilocaling. Mama’s Grill is located in the parking lot east of the Ranch 99 on Clairemont Mesa(with Rubios in the same plaza). I’ve been in the plaza before but never thought to stop in to this location. It’s almost next door to Amore(my favorite Korean cosmetics shop). It’s cute. very mom and pop humble. There’s modest seating, a counter with chips and drinks lining either side, and the open kitchen. The guy at the counter was super nice and friendly. Hubster ordered his Rachel and I decided to try the Turkey Club with chipotle that everyone was raving about. The sandwiches are humble. and it looks something grandma/mom would make for you in the kitchen when you’ve got a sandwich hankering. They don’t skimp on the meat(especially in the Rachel. they were very generous on the pastrami). and the flavor combos are great. We both enjoyed the turkey club the most. something about the mayo with lettuce and chipotle sauce really made the sandwich flavorful. I do wish the bread was a little more exciting. but it does its job. The slaw in the Rachel is definitely homemade. but hubbie wasn’t a fan of the rough chop and carrots. He also had a hankering for more of the thousand island taste. We still scarfed both down and they were yum when paired with the pickle. Kind of wish they gave at least pickle for free but it was the giant Boar’s Head pickle($ 1.50). which makes this mama happy belly. This is the only sandwich shop I know in the immediate area, and I could definitely imagine coming back if I were around and hankering a fresh sandwich. Prices were reasonable. a little on the higher side. but nothing too exorbitant. Two sandwiches, drink, chip, and pickle will take you to about the $ 23 – 25 mark I believe. Overall not bad. A cute little shop that’s pretty tasty. overall about a 3.5 with a round-up for the nice service and for being a mom n’ pop.

Three stars because my boyfriend really liked his«Rad Rachel» sandwich. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Gouda. I can’t tell you whether or not it tasted good because literally the only thing I could taste was the gallon of mustard they put on my sandwich. It was oozing out of the sides, getting everywhere, and there were globs of it throughout my sandwich. Now, I love mustard, but when I order a sandwich that is supposed to have chipotle chicken and chipotle gouda on it, I want to taste the chipotle! I was very underwhelmed by this place, but I’ll probably swing by again and try something different.

I found this gem of a café with a friend and am thoroughly impressed. Even though it’s in a nondescript strip mall in Kearny Mesa(land of endless strip malls), it has some outdoor seating, which is a huge plus to me… and of course really killer sandwhiches. My friend ordered a salad that looked like a yummy bowl of healthy. I had to get a corned beef(yeah, not quite so healthy). It was way bigger than my mouth could handle, comical really as my friend and I laughed at my inability at first to take a bite, but I maneuvered that bad boy in spite of its giant proportions. Next time I’m saving half. I am pretty finicky when it comes to sandwhiches and this joint has got a good thing going. The menu is interesting and in no way bland. When I have chores to do on the mesa, I’m going to build this into my schedule(sorry In-N-Out). Excellent food and a much better substitute for fast food.

I hadn’t been here in a while, but so glad I thought to grab a sandwich today. I had the Gyro pita and it is simple yet amazing. The gyro meat is tender, juicy and flavorful. The pita is toasted, but soft on the inside. It’s stuffed with feta, tomato and red onion. I’ve never had a disappointing sandwich here.

I was not impressed by Mama’s Grill. I love a good sandwich. What I got during my visit yesterday was a decent sandwich at a premium price. I ordered the turkey club and it was a good sandwich. It had turkey, bacon and avocado on sour dough toast which is always tasty. It was light on meat and heavy on veggies. Although a tasty sandwich it wasn’t a good value. I also caught them on a bad day. They only had one employee working during lunch. He was hustling and doing his best. When I got to the counter to order, I found out he was covering for 2 people who hadn’t made it to work that day. Half way through my sandwich, a manager arrived to help the harried lone worker but by that time I had already endured a long wait on a hot day in an un-air conditioned restaurant. I don’t think I will go out of my way to visit again although they were decent.

So finding a great sandwich in San Diego is hit-or-miss…and today, I had a GREAT sandwich at Mama’s Grill, which is literally a door away from a Jersey Mike’s franchise(and they suck!!!) BoarsHead meats piled high from the Big Boy menu, I had the«Italian Surfer», which is Genoa Salami, Hot Cappicola, Mortadella, Black Forest Ham, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onions, Pepperoncini’s, Mayo & Italian Dressing on an Italian Sub Roll… I don’t like mortadella, so had them sub an extra slice of each meat… DEELISHH!!! The bread is PERFECT… chewy, but not a jaw breaker, not too thick… not too thin… great flavor, shredded lettuce, condiments just like the delis back east. MMMMM double up MMMMMMMMMM!!! This is a literal mom-n-pop joint, not much by way of ambiance, but if you want a great sandwich and an ice cold soda pop… you don’t need to go anywhere else. Parking lot is usually quite spacious, except during the week at peak lunch time, say 11:45 am-1:00 pm, other than that, you should be golden!

There are few times in my life where I go this is really good! Mamas Grill was one of them. Walkef in — had a brief idea of what to get(hot italian) the smaller one as I most definitely could not finish the full size one. I was floating happy once I got what I ordered. They gave quite the plentiful amount and I am still so full after. Though the price if more expensive than subways by 2 – 4 dollars, it is most definitely worth it. You get a kick of a sandwich. Their AC wasnt blasting, but the store was still cool enough for you to not sweat. And they nicely bring it to you at your table. Would totally recommend for anyone who is in need of a sandwich fix.

Everytime I eat sandwiches here I say the same thing. I want to marry the person who make this sandwich. so today I came in for Wednesday special, I got the Italian with salad. The hot italian was interesting, the feeling was a combination of different meat, Grill pork with skin, it gives the sandwich a crunch so delicious, it also has roast beef and sausage I think and a lot of cheese, I don’t know how many ingredients they put in there but my taste buds is loving it. I order a salad with Italian sauce and fell in love with it as well. even though there was a change in management I believe it is for the better. the staff was very very friendly and helpful. I will be coming back here for specials. their sandwiches make my day so much better.

Mamas Grill makes really good salads and sandwiches. I’ve ordered different sandwiches but my favorite is the turkey club sandwich with a side of chipotle sauce. This sandwich has turkey, bacon, peppercinis and avo! All of my favorites in one :) My co worker usually gets a chopped salad. The food is kinda pricy but worth it. Sign up on the five stars program for points and discounts. I earned a free sandwich on my next visit.

This place always makes tasty sandwiches. It is right by my job, so I signed up for fivestars for the first time there. The rewards and discounts they send alone keeps me coming back. So far I’ve had the Xtreme Chipotle chicken wrap, ragin Cajun, goofy Chipotle chicken gouda, and Buffalo Benny. ALL were great. I like that they aren’t skimpy with the ingredients. I hate going to sandwich places and it’s the size of a sandwich I can make at home. I’d definitely recommend this place and these sandwiches!

Just driving by and saw the place out of the corner of my eye. The bread and flavor of the seasoning on the sub is the best I’ve had in San Diego. So much better than subway or jersey mikes Will go out of my way to come back.

Unilocal nation you really let me down on this one. With such consistently high reviews, there may have been something going on behind the scenes today to account for my lack-luster meal, but at $ 8+ a sandwich, I’m not sure I’ll be back to find out. I ordered a chicken hummus wrap with no olives. It was meant to come with grilled chicken, hummus, red onions, pickles, and tomato. What I got was a pita half-hazardly stuffed with hummus and long strips of grilled chicken with exactly 2 pickle rounds(what do you call the cross section of a pickle?) in each half. The tomatoes and onions were largely diced and kind of thrown on top of the pita, because they were too big to actually be put inside. I’m not saying I don’t want lots of veggies, but when I order a pita, I expect that the ingredients are going to be inside of it, at least to begin with. The onion slices were long and skinny, and there was one huge chuck that didn’t get cut all the way through that really should have been about 5 slices.

HUGE sandwiches! Meaning it’s large and filing enough to share with someone unless you’re really hungry. I went to lunch with 5 male coworkers, 4 of those who ordered sandwiches, and 1 of those who actually finished their sandwich. It’s a bit pricey at about $ 7-$ 10 per sandwich but you do get your money’s worth because they are filling! They range from sandwiches, pitas, paninis, salad, and more. Sandwiches are tasty and they use different types of sauces. All piled high with meats and veggies!
