I’ve worked in Point Loma over a year now and this was my first Mexican restaurant. At first I read the reviews and was going to order the shrimp and loma tacos but when I arrived, I saw that they had flautas. Flautas are my all time favorite dish and not many places have it, not even restaurants. The are like rolled tacos except they are deep fried and bigger in diameter. So I had to order the flautas and those are usually hit or miss. Some places make it skinny like rolled tacos, oily, or too thick and too much meat. Well, this place is just perfect! Nicely crisp and fluffy, filled with fresh chicken not old meat. It was topped with the usual lettuce, tomato, cheese. At the time of ordering, she asked if I wanted sour cream and guacamole or both. I told her only guacamole. Then she asked if I wanted red or green sauce versus getting it your self. There is no sauce bar. I will for sure return to try the tacos.

not friendly. They don’t let you eat inside. Too many places in the area to bother with this place.

Really good chile relent burritos. Smells great inside. Authentic Mexican food. Not big on décor, but I always get it to go and eat someplace pretty nearby on Shelter island. It used to be the Purple Place, now it’s yellow and orange. You can’t miss it! Call your order in and it’s a quick pick up. Must Bueno!

Went in for lunch. Had the Loma Tacos(carne asada, shrimp, bacon, and cheese) with rice and beans. Good size portion and great flavor. All for about $ 10 with a drink. Never had a bad meal here.

We had shrimp tacos and the loma taco — contains shrimp, carne asada, and bacon. WOW that was amazing, best taco I’ve ever had. The service was very friendly. I don’t know if they’ve recently stepped up their game or what but our experience did not match the negative reviews I’ve seen on this place. It’s a dive, and I can vouch that they have great tacos. I’m interested to try their breakfast menu.

California burritos are a good size for its price. It was good and the salsas are okay too. However, since we all know, customer service is what makes a business run. The employees were rude and zero patience to tourists and visitors. Needs to improve being friendly and respectful to customers.

Yesterday I ate at Loma Bonita for the second time within a couple months as the food is pretty darn good and I ordered a wet mixed burrito and to my surprise, I watched the cook throw a pile of sliced bell peppers and onions onto the grill and yes, they ended up in my burrito with a light coating of beans and shredded beef in whats becoming very common in taco shops throughout San Diego county. Also, with whats also becoming the norm in a lot of taco shops is that you are getting more flour tortilla wrapped around and around than beans or beef and its a shame that its getting harder and harder to get a decent mixed burrito in this county as they cut the ingredients that you would expect and also continue to raise the prices. I did give them one star for a great red sauce and one for friendly service but I probably wont be coming back soon, well maybe for tacos, we’ll see.

My wife and I have been eating here for over three years. I cannot say that we have had anything but wonderful food here. My wife gets potato tacos being that she is a vegetarian. She claims there is no other place that can make them better. I enjoy their chicken California and have even conquered their ultimate burrito which is basically a giant version of the California burrito.

The food is great, and inexpensive. I stop in once a month or so and the Carne asada burrito really hits the spot. The Pollo asado burrito is also very tasty. It is a small take out place with some seating inside and outside but definitely not a sit down restaurant. Wiyh that beong said, I would definitely recommend!

Second burrito I have had from here and both were delicious! The breakfast burrito is outstanding, every thing is spread evenly, the cheese is thoroughly melted and the potatoes are really creamy. I have also had a Pollo asada burrito that was pretty good, I love that their hot sauce is actually spicy. Overall great taco shop.

Honestly, this review is only for their burritos, especially the super giant one(or whatever it is called). I have had multiple steak burritos from this place, and they are the best! As I recall, their regular sized and the super giant burritos have the same stuff inside(including sour cream and guacamole), but the super giant one is just humongous! Total deliciousness and for a low cost. A must visit if you are in the area and want a good burrito. They have a small parking lot and a couple small tables inside. I have always taken my food to go.

I was looking for a quick place to get food to go, so I can eat it while I go fishing at the nearby fishing pier. Aside from going to my regular spot to grab a sandwich, I felt like having a breakfast burrito. As I entered the parking lot to get my sandwich, I looked across the way and saw this Mexican restaurant. Yes! I can finally fulfill my breakfast burrito craving. They have a private parking lot and seating inside and outside patio. I ordered a Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito and a Jamaica drink to go. They have a list of different kinds of breakfast burritos. The wait was not too long, since there were a couple of orders before mine, then more people started to arrive after I placed my order. Now I know where to go if I want quick Mexican food to go. I plan to stop by again and try other items on their menu to dine there, when not in a hurry to eat and run.

I had the California Burrito. The tortilla was good. Everything else very bland. Just go to MXN down the road for a better burrito.

Sub-par mexican food. As a self proclaimed«California burrito connoisseur,» this is one of the worse ive had in San Diego. Carne asada was chewy and sauces were watered down. Also the meat wasn’t seasoned at all. Bathrooms were pretty disgusting and hard to get to. It is truly a miracle that this place had an A health rating. Only thing I can salvage is that the woman who took my order was very kind.

Well, as of Aug 31, 2013, Loma Bonita was CLOSEDBYTHEHEALTHDEPT due to a «Vermin Infestation» and is still closed today on the 7th of September. Yummy! That means the very same counter tops where your beloved burritos were lovingly folded recently were being simultaneously used for rat races or roach olympics during nightime hours. People, I’ve worked & managed enough restaurants to know, that if you’re closed by the health dept for this reason, that you KNEW you had a problem before hand but chose to do nothing about it. I had already given this place a low rating, but gross salsa & less than avg food selections AND risking your health? This is the epitomy of a 1 star rating of «Eek! Me Thinks not!»

Stopped in for a quick bite before heading to Kellogg Beach to walk the pup. Tried some standards — the cheese quesadilla, bean and cheese burrito, and chips and guac, and they were ok, but not that great. Have definitely had better from other little taco shops. The guacamole was very strange — didn’t taste like avocado at all and appeared to be dyed a very unnatural St. Patrick’s Day green. Might like it better if you stop in after hitting the local bars. On a positive note, the shop was cute, service was friendly, and they have a front and back patio that are dog friendly.

My favorite place for Mexican food in the Point Loma /Sports Arena Area. I eat here or get food to go on an almost weekly basis. There is a large selection of dishes. My go to dish is the chicken enchiladas combo(no beans). The chicken is cut into chunks not strips. It is tender and never has a dried out taste. Very delicious. There is a little parking lot with about 6 – 7 spaces not including 2 handicapped spaces, so you can usually get a spot. The places is clean, the people are friendly, and the prices are good. It is not as well known as MXN(formerly Santanas) and others places in the area because it is not on a main street, but it is many times better.

I didn’t have the greatest impression of Loma Bonita for the longest time. I bike past it to work on a daily basis, thought the bright colors and slightly off the beaten path location might lead to great food, and then was sorely disappointed when I tried it. In most cases, I’ve found that Loma Bonita tries to follow the quantity, not quality route. Their burritos are gigantic. Possibly twice as large as other taco shops in the area(Los Primos, Adalbertos). But I found the standard go-to’s to be lackluster at best. So how did they get 3 stars? I discovered the Home Burrito. After a chance encounter at a random taco shop in Clairemont Mesa with a chorizo/bean/carne asada burrito, I hadn’t been able to find this combination since. Until I found the Home Burrito at Loma Bonita. It isn’t quite as good as the one I tried in Clairemont, but it’s good nonetheless. It’s a favorite for either breakfast or lunch. It’s still massively sized, but it’s very much more edible than their other foods. Until other local joints start serving this, I’ll keep coming back to Loma Bonita. It doesn’t hurt that it’s on the way to work also. It should be mentioned that I’m not a fan of their salsas. The red is a little too burnt tasting to me, the green is a little bland. The red pairs OK with the Home Burrito, but it’s not ideal. The service is friendly here, and the food is cooked and served quickly. They also have a decently sized patio on the side, and a generous parking lot.

Location: This place is located on the corner and is easy to find. It’s small and there’s plenty of parking. Seating is located both inside and outside. Food: The menu choices are endless. I couldn’t make up my mind by I knew I was getting jamaica for my drink. I ended up ordering beef flautas which were to die for. The chili sauce given when you pick up your order is also amazing!!! My co-workers all ordered burritos and they were all massive! The prices are cheap but you get so much food!!! And I must say it reminds me of the dishes my aunts and grandma used to make while I was growing up. Atmosphere: It is a tiny restaurant so don’t be surprised if you can hear other people’s conversations as well as walk near other tables. But other than that, it’s homey and friendly. Negatives: The bathrooms are located in the back in which you have to walk through the front desk and through the kitchen. It wasn’t bad but it as just a bit weird. Overall: Location is convenient, lots of parking, service is super quick, owners/workers are all nice, and wide menu options. It’s definitely a spot that you must try!!!
