Wow, these reviews are way too high for this place, which is located in a middle of an industrial park in Mira Mesa. I the two years since I work in this area, it appears the Kozy Korner has been ran by 3 different people. I was going to give 1 star, but the newest gal working the front counter was actaully really nice and tried to provide a nice lunch, but unfortunately the food was basically bland european style food in steam warmers… But I must say this was an improvement from the old lady and her snotty son that ran the place about 9 month ago. This place is a last resort when you don’t have time to drive to a real restaurant for a decent lunch…

Kozy Korner is my back-up plan for the weeks when I practically am living at work because of a deadline. It’s cheaper than Centerpark Café and feels less like a cafeteria. It’s also under new management, so it’s a little different, some of it good and some of it bad. Here is some of the good: –A while ago Kozy Korner raised their prices, but the new management has lowered them back to what they used to be. –They are grilling regularly during the week, I think they said 3 days a week. Yesterday I had a kabob, pita, humus and Mediterranean salad. They said they’ll be grilling fresh burgers, among other things. –Most everything is the same. You can still order an ATC on a french roll with no mayo(my favorite). You can still get potato salad and a drink for only $ 1.50 more. I really like their potato salad, it’s very creamy although I’m sure that’s not healthy for me. Since the new management has taken over, there are somethings that they don’t do well that I notice because the previous managers did do well. Here’s some of the bad: –When it comes to making sandwiches, they’re slower. I’m sure they’ll get better at it, but this is something they should be aware that they need to work on. –They need to use only ripe avocados in their sandwiches. I got sliced avocado which was not ripe, and so it was firm and didn’t have that buttery texture that is one of the reasons we Californians love avocado. If the avocado isn’t soft and squishy, it isn’t ripe. The previous managers would mash the avocado and apply it as a sort of spread. That’s another good test, if you can’t mash the avocado, it’s not ripe. –They need to wrap their sandwiches in paper and use something to keep the paper together before putting it in a to-go box. Otherwise, the sandwiches will roll around a bit in the to-go box and by the time you get back to work/home it’ll be in a bit of disarray. –When I ordered the kabob, it had 7 – 8 pieces of meat per kabob and you get two kabobs. That’s a pretty generous amount, the problem is that the kabob sticks are fairly long and so when the pieces get spaced apart pretty far, it makes it look like you are actually getting less. I would either fill the spaces with vegetables or mushrooms, or I would use smaller kabob sticks so that those pieces of meat look jam packed together, ready to just burst off the stick. So there you have it, some good and some bad, but the new management has been at this for a very short time so I’m pretty sure they’ll improve. Since they are pretty new, to be fair I’ll end with a couple more good things about the place: –They are being pretty generous to customers. Right now they have a promo where with every drink you get a free candy bar. They are also a very friendly bunch. –They are promoting Unilocal as a way to get feedback from customers. If you have any complaints or suggestions after your experience there, post them here and then give them another chance later to see if they heard you. In fact, that’s exactly why I’m writing this review. I love a good sandwich at a good price, but if they can’t get their avocados in a row I may just have to look elsewhere, or at least stop eating ATCs.
