I won’t be back. For a restaurant who is capitalizing on its fame from a military movie you would think they would be more welcoming to our service people. The people sitting next to us asked if you offered a military discount. With a very minimal acknowledgement the waitress responded«no, we are in the high rent district».

After eating at Kansas City BBQ twice, I found it high time I left a review in hopes that others will avoid the same disappointment I’ve experienced. During my first dine in visit I was rubbed the wrong way when the waitress made a fake southern accent and stated«you’re not from around here is ya» after I asked for sweet tea. The quickest way to offend a patron is to mock them. The name is Kansas City Barbecue. I can assure you that any restaurant you go into in Missouri has sweet tea… It wasn’t an unreasonable request. –further more my ribs were cold and clearly heated up in a microwave. Now, to my second visit. I decided to try one more time with a takeout order during the weekend. I ordered the brisket plate and my friend had the pulled pork. Both of which were freezing cold, even though I came to get the order ten minutes BEFORE they said it was going to be ready. The meat was bland and had zero smoke flavor at all. The sauce tastes just like the Kraft brand BBQ sauce they give you in grade school. Honestly, this is on par with gas station prepackaged meals. I’m not being dramatic. I didn’t even finish it. After visiting twice it is evident this restaurant only survives off of its link to top gun… Truth be told, if you go inside, you won’t recognize anything. None of the inside is set up how it appeared in the movie. If you are a top gun buff just tour the midway and give your money to a museum and not a exploitative resultant serving dog food as barbecue. Gross, offensive, and overpriced.

The food is terrible! Seating inside is very cramped. Service was okay. Every one I talked to local said don’t go. The only reason to come here is if you love Top Gun.

Food was so so. Chili was good but the beef brisket sandwich was terrible. The service was very slow. Never came by to check on us so we needed to ask the hostess to help us. Would not eat here again. I’m usually not very picky but even I didn’t like this food.

We ordered beef brisket on bread, corn on the cob, onion rings, fries, Mac & Cheese, and lemonade. The brisket, corn, and rings were the right colors but were completely tasteless. I was not expecting 4-star flavor, but this was not anything you would want to eat. The corn was a dripping watery mess with no sweetness. My young daughter did not even like the mac and cheese. It looked kind of like a ball of congealed semi-heated mush. The fries were okay and the standard fountain lemonade was what you would expect. As for the service, it was not bad but not great. The server did not check back with us very often, but she did remove the mac and cheese from the bill upon request. Overall, I recommend you skip the place.

The food was not good at all. In fact it didn’t have any flavor. Even the sauce bland. The best thing was the soda. They have a new coke machine. Save your money if you want real bbq.

The whole premise here is that they were the bar where two scenes in Top Gun were filmed. True, like most red-blooded Americans, I too love Top Gun. However, resting your entire business on this is a little too much. It is in a stellar location and seems to be otherwise like a neighborhood bar neatly tucked away in a business district. It has it’s charm but pushes the Top Gun crap too far.

I heard back in it’s day this restaurant was very good. Is obvious now, that day has gone. Terrible service and even worse ribs. I ordered the $ 24 ribs and couldn’t finish them due to how hard and dry they were. I am currently still sitting here waiting to ask for my bill as I haven’t seen my waitress in about 30mins. If you’re a top gun fan, come get a drink then leave. Because the food does the name Kansas City BBQ a great injustice.

Sitio donde rodaron la escena de la moto en TopGun. Buen barbecue y buena terraza cerca del puerto en San Diego.

We’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time, we arrived and were promptly seated, our excitement stopped there. I had a Pepsi with the beef brisket plate corn on the cob with Mac and cheese, my husband had baby back pork ribs, Cole slaw, and mac and cheese and a blue moon. The best part of the meal were our drinks. Our waitress wore sunglasses the whole time. The brisket was really greasy and over sauced, the ribs were really dry. The corn on the cob was mushy, Cole slaw was terrible, mac and cheese was also really greasy. Won’t ever come again, they didn’t do anything terribly wrong they’re just not good. Not worth the hype.

I’ve never had the food here so this review is based solely on the environment and drinks. My boyfriend and I stopped in here one evening on our walk home for a beer. $ 4 for Guinness, coors, shock top etc served quickly and without attitude. The bartender and locals inside on the weekend evening were very nice and best of all, super relaxed. This is my kind of spot to grab a nice beer when you just need a break. Away from the downtown snootiness and attitudes you often find. The interior is decorated with tons of Top Gun memorabilia which makes it fun to sit and look around.

Awful! Half my family got good poisoning from here! They ate the brisket and got sick. And as for my meal, the pull pork, it was dry and had no flavor. I highly suggest going somewhere else! P. S. They don’t even have Dr. Pepper… The f**k

Good casual dining location. Good view from the patio and I was very impressed with the spare rib sandwich. Service was wonderful, and I really enjoyed my visit.

Amazing that this place can still exist after all these years just on the Top Gun connection. The food is atrocious! Really, how hard would it be to turn out even passable BBQ?

Took my friend to this place for his birthday and what a disappointment!!! To start off, as we walked in the server says«are you kidding me!» I don’t know if she was talking to the cook but it threw us off. We order red trolley beer and it didn’t taste anything like a red trolley plus the food was so disappointing. Never going back don’t recommend it

Chris the bartender is amazballs! Ask for the«dessert» menu… It’s worth it! also the BBQ is very good, too bad people just go there for the Top Gun movie stuff, it should be about the great people that work there, the service and the food!

It is all about expectations. If you are expecting competent barbecue, you will be disappointed. But if you want to drink with attentive, cheerful service, this is the place. I may be unfair to hope a place with this name to have decent barbecue. I knew this was San Diego. And being from Decatur(Atlanta) I set a pretty high bar for barbecue. Here I got mushy pork with a sweet non-spicy sauce that wasn’t much above ketchup. And onion rings that definitely we’re not made with Vidalias. Weirdly spicy. I will give them credit for fantastic potato salad, though. That was a pleasant surprise. But back to Earth. A nice place to grab a beer and relax. Expect that and you’ll be happy. If they dropped«barbecue» from their name I’d give them another star. But that sets up unrealistic expectations.

Divey BBQ joint ambience is spot on. But the food was just not good. Go for the«Top Gun» memories and booze but plan to have dinner elsewhere.
