I’ve been here a couple of times during my undergrad and yesterday was my first time back since I graduated. My friends had been wanting to karaōke for awhile and we finally got around to it. For the record, I love bringing white people to NRB(what Koreans refer to as karaōke). They always bust out hilarious renditions of «classics» like Kid Rock’s Bawitdaba and Limp Bizkit’s Nookie. I die every time. J Music is not the place to go if you’re looking for a swanky NRB experience. Overpriced at $ 30/hr the only real reason to go here is because Min Sok Chon right next door is full or you feel like singing really late into the night. The music selection is ok, but not as current as you would probably like. For example, I wanted to sing Taylor Swift’s Trouble but was denied. Definitely BYOB. They serve Coors Light in cans if you ask for beer so don’t say I didn’t warn you. Water bottles, sodas, and basic refreshments like that are available but again, don’t expect too much. Rooms are kind of smelly and the tvs could use a serious face lift. I prefer NRB places in K-town and LA to the ones I’ve been to in SD thus far. Please let me know if you know of any awesome karaōke places to try in the SD area.

SONGSELECTION: for koreans: AWESOME for english: awful. finding the songs were hard. they were mixed in with the billions of korean songs. Only one book had a list of english songs in the back not mixed with korean songs, listed A-Z by title. No listings by artist. We did not know there was a search button on the remote; when we asked for assistance on how to use the remote(since it was in korean) they did not tell us about this option. EQUIPMENT: –quiet mic, you have to put your mouth really close to it –controller buttons really stiff, must press hard or multiple times –rooms/door do not keep sound in or even remotely muffle sound. Can hear everything said crystal clear as if door was open from hallway –TV’s were dinosaur age. Not flat screen –Music videos had RANDOMASIANPEOPLEDOINGRANDOMTHINGS. not at all related to selected song –songs themselves have incorrect beat/instrument/timing. Does not sound like the original songs PRICE: $ 30/HR… TOOEXPENSIVEFORWHATYOUGET. Even for an expensive place like San Diego there are way better places for less/same price. Good things: –open till 4am on certain days –bring your own food/drinks –bathroom smells nice??? Karaōke 101 allows you to bring your own food and drink. The rooms are infinitely nicer, the TV’s are way bigger and way nicer, the quality is good, and the equipment is up to date with a computer to search for your songs by every possible way of searching. Easy to use, fast, friendly, etc. Songs available in a variety of languages. 25 $/hr. I much prefer that place. I will never, ever come back if I can help it. Staff is friendly though.

Came here a couple nights ago for my birthday, with a group of 8. I made a reservation ahead of time and we got one of the largest rooms– it was good with 8, but could have held 10 if we needed to. No problem with us bringing in beer and pizza from elsewhere, which we dutifully cleaned up ourselves at the end of the night. Music selection is varied– they have tons of Korean stuff and a good selection of American pop music from various decades, but even had some popular very recent stuff, like«Some Nights» from Fun, though the books are out of date. The karaōke system is in Korean, so if you don’t speak or read it, check the pic on Unilocal for help, or ask the person on duty. It shows weird tropical scenes and Korean singers in the background, which is kind of funny. The staff speaks limited English themselves but are super nice and helpful. We were being pretty loud while singing and even chased some girls away to rooms further from us, but they never asked us to be quiet. For 8 of us in the large room, it was $ 250 for 5 and a half hours– about $ 30 a person, which I think is pretty reasonable considering the length of time and the good/unobtrusive service.

BYOB, bring your own booze, alcohol, drinks, food, snacks. The song selection is decent, and we sang the night away with a bottle of bourbon and a 6pack of Hite(keeping with the Korean theme)

This is a no frills place, not a lot of bells and whistles but did I mention YOUCANBRINGFOOD&DRINKS?! ANDIT’S OPENLATE! As good as it gets, second to having a full karaōke set up in your house where you can have tons of friends who bring food and alcohol over. It might be more lively next door at MinSokChon but when you can bring in all the alcohol and food you want here that starts to not seem so important… or not important at all. Heck, bring food over from MSC if you are dying for some tofu soup. p. s. if you want the most recent english songs you have to search for it using the controller, won’t be in the book

Jankeyoke. We dropped in there one extremely late night after everything was closed. No one was in there, it was dead, obviously very late, still business hours though. I was like«how about a late night special»?! This seemed to offend them… DE-NIED!!! They were open for another hour and 20 minutes, for some reason we decided to go for it. They booted us out after an hour on the dot and closed up shop 20 minutes early. Noicce… P. S. — Crappy(English) song selection compared to similar places.

Pretty decent song selections with a good few new English pop songs. The small rooms are tiny but I guess if cozy is what you’re going for then this is just right.

HEYHEYHEY!!! KARAOKETIME!!! If you love karaōke as much as I do without the creeps at the bar you gotta come to J Music studio! For $ 30 an hour you get a room with a couch and a disco ball and a TV and karaōke machine just for you and your friends which means BRINGYOUROWNBEERANDLETTHEFUNBEGIN! A few Hop Head Reds in and I think I finally learned Korean because I am mastering the remote like a pro! Their English music selection needs to improve a little bit more, but I’ll let it slide cause they gave us $ 10 off on our second hour.

This place deserves a 3.5 stars :) Same as many other karaōke places, your private room comes with 2 microphones, a LCDTV, a remote and a comfy couch. I came here with 7 other people on a Friday night. The 8 of us paid a total of $ 40 for an hour of karaōke fun. Each of us only pays $ 5. $ 5 on a Friday night is a steal deal! There is a huge selection of Korean and English Songs, along with a fair amount of Chinese and Japanese songs. The remote could be difficult to control especially when one is not familiar with the language. Because none of us in the group could read Koreans, we had to ask for assistance. The worker came into our room and taught us how to search, select as well as deleting songs from the system with his limited English speaking ability, but he was really enthusiastic and friendly. The sound quality is a OK. Most of the English lyrics are correct, but the background music videos can be ridiculous sometimes. For example, if you are singing a Backstreet Boys song, the background video might be playing a Korean man singing some sad songs lol Yet, at the end of each song, you would be given a score on how well you sing. How funny! As far as I know, this place does not offer free drinks or snacks; alcohols are also prohibited. + For its variety of songs + For your score at the end of each song + For the location(A lot safer than the other Karaōke place on Convoy) + For the friendliness of the server — 0.5 for the music videos that do not match the songs — 0.5 for not having food/drinks and the Korean speaking remote — 0.5 for someone puking in the ladies room

It’s just a traditional korean karaōke bar — nothing fancy or crazy just a nice little place to go to unwind with your own karaōke room. It was around $ 25/hour for 2 people at night, and they open til 4AM on Fri-Sat’s. That’s cool bc I can sing all night long. Insert Lionel Richie here. The selection of music was just all right. it had a few new ones. The menu might not be in English but it’s easy to figure out after a few times, and I like that you can search by artist or title using the keypad, rather than just flip through the books. I like to have both options actually. The sound was loud enough but the TVs felt a little older. I’m not picky though so as long as I can get my sing on, that rarely matters. The people who work there had very happy demeanors, so that made it pleasant.

I wish I had known that you could bring your own food and alcohol in here because we were so disappointed. They do have soju, but its straight from the bottle not mixed with anything. They gave us some orange Slice to chase/mix it with but it was gross to me. Too bad all of the other karaōke bars were full that night. We wanted to show our friend from Chicago a good time. This was the only place that had an available room. There is a wide song selection and the staff was very helpful. We had a broken mic and they replaced it right away. Next time I come here, I will be sure to bring my own food/drinks!

This place reminds me a lot of the karaoki rooms I use to party in when I was in Korea except they don’t serve alcoholic beverages but hey it’s cool cause it’s also BYOB so hell ya! I’ve had a great time every time I end up here and with the awesome hours like how can you not love it, great for after hour partying with your friends closes at 4 am. I know both times I’ve gotten kicked out a bit after 4 Lol! «This Guy» Approves and will be returning to torture my friends with my tone deaf of a voice. :-P

I went here last night with a party of 13. We were told it would be about 40 minutes the first time we came. When it approached 40 minutes the bald guy at the desk said it would be another 30 minutes. Bro, what are you basing this on? Then I set my charming and seductive friend to figure out the situation and he was told 5 minutes! Know your role, J Music Studio staff PLEASE. I first came to this place two years ago for my 19th birthday and do not remember it being so difficult to get a room, but maybe I had too much party juice. I was told that there were rooms for 10 available but one for 15 people weren’t available. After asking him over and over he eventually let us have the small room. He gave us this little lecture about not drinking alcohol in the room but drinking soda was fine. We snuck in booze anyway, alcohol just makes karaōke fun! We arrived at 11:15PM and left around 1:30AM. 2 Hours on a Friday night had cost us $ 110 so the pricing was not bad at all. Overall this is an easy place to come and sing with your friends, most of the time.

Karaōke in San Diego is very pricey, but nonetheless, it’s always fun. My friends and I usually sing the Korean songs and they have a very good selection, usually having the newest songs out. However, if you can’t read Korean or Japanese(and want to sing those songs), you’re screwed. They do have a wide variety of English songs and that’s good too. I would totally come here more often if the price wasn’t so high. $ 30/hr. When my friends and I really want to karaōke, we limit ourselves to one hour because that’s all we can afford.

The staff are nice. This place is open until late. The selection for English music is fair – amazing if you’re into Korean. Parking can be troublesome. This place is more fun if you BYOB. Yeah.

This was my first karaōke experience, so I was like a virgin, touched for the very first time. Congrats to J Music Studio for stealing my karaōke virginity. This is a nice place to go if you want to sing your little heart out like you da you da best. The workers here are super chill like ice ice baby and don’t care about you bringing in alcohol, so proudly show off what you got! No need to make yourself look shady by trying to hide it in your bag. When you sit down, take a shot. Or two or three or four until you feel that boom boom pow. They have a nice selection of songs, which they actually update from time to time, so just throw yo hands up in tha air and wave ‘em around like ya just don’t care! The random images that play on the screen during a song are superrrr hilarious. We were singing a really happy song, and an image of a sad girl crying her eyes out popped up. LOL. They also have tambourines, so if you’re too shy/embarrassed to sing(although I don’t know why you should be…), you can be boring and play with that. There are windows in the doors, so people who walk by can see everyone messing around because we’re not that innocent. We were belting out«Bohemian Rhapsody» at the top of our lungs when our door suddenly opened. Some random people stuck their heads in to laugh at us, but we didn’t care because we were having too much fun. Blame it on the a-a-a-a-alcohol.

It’s Monday evening. Do you know where your Asian children are? «I don’t know what he does to make you cry, but I’ll be there to make you smile…» Seeing as how their nohrehbang of choice was booked full on a Monday evening, our hero took his friend’s suggestion of J Music. He had been there once before with some Koreans, but his recollection of that experience was hazy(maybe due to all the cigarette smoke in the room) and clouded(by some sort of alcohol they sneaked in). «I don’t have a fancy car, to get to you I’d walk a thousand miles…» Parking, as usual, was a pain in the lot because it shares spots with Min Sok Chon and Korea House, which pull in a lot of customers. «I don’t care if he buys you nice things, does his gifts come from the heart?» With some Red Stripe beer in tow(one of which was already open), our karaōke-killer hero walked into J Music Studio where his Korean friends were waiting. Alcohol always loosens up the vocal chords. «I don’t know, but if you were my girl I’d make it so we’d never be apart…» Their selection of English songs is sporadic, but they sure have a lot of hits from the Backstreet Boys. It is very satisfying to belt out«All I Have To Give» to a synthesized soundtrack under the neon glow of a disco ball while your companions jingle the tambourine. PROS: — Fairly well soundproofed rooms where you don’t get too much noise from the outside or other rooms. — Not just one, but two tambourine style noise makers in each room. — A very clean and well-maintained nohrehbang. CONS: — It’s kind of odd how these«private» karaōke rooms have windows on them, so people can see you messing around and dancing inside when they walk by. — They don’t serve alcohol… so you’ll have to bring your own ;-) — On the pricier side for karaōke rooms in SD. An hour and a half during the weekdays runs about $ 35 for their smallest room.

It’s kinda funny that JMS is right next to another karaōke lounge. Never been to that one, but regardless, JMS gets points for the following. Easy to find; it’s right next to Spicy City! The room is kinda small, but it’s great for making a cozy experience with pals. Music selection is pretty good, but I was surprised that there were some songs I couldn’t find. There was no country! This is the only time I actually do country. BYOB, just make sure you clean up. Yeah, I said that BYOB.
