My previous review expressed frustration that the cashiers constantly badger you about getting a GNC card. Obviously they get commission.
Today, same dude two years later, did the same exact thing. Except this time, when I told him I didn’t want a card, he asked for my phone number anyways. I get out to my car and I receive an automated text from GNC telling me I just signed up for their five stars reward program.
This kind of bullshit is not acceptable. He basically just got himself a commission and added me to their system without my permission. Fortunately I can ignore the text and not confirm it with a «Y». But there’s no option to say «N» either. Enough is enough. Manager of this store paying any attention?

Great experience. Talk with Eric he’s funny and well informed. Avoid going to the GNC by IKEA in Mission Valley… they are rude and the more expensive.

Can not believe it has taken me this long to write about the amazing service I get at the store. Every time I go in Eric is always there to help me out. He has an awesome memory so when I revisit the store he always ask how the products were working out for me since he knows I’m trying to bulk up. The great thing about Eric is he knows what he’s talking about and he’s not trying to just sell you something. Yes there’s other GNC’s but the reason I’ll keep going back to this one is because Eric and his manager give such a great experience in their store.

This is my favorite GNC in the san diego area. Plenty of parking, staff is friendly (especially Eric) and they always have my favorite isopure flavors and their prices are cheaper than other GNC locations. I also get coupons in the mail 25−30% off) and the hillcrest location accepts the coupons and other GNC’s (like the horton plaza location) do not.

Got helped by Eric tonight! Super helpful, was able to give me a lot of different options for exactly what I needed. Left the store feeling confident in my purchase. Thanks Eric!

They tell you anything for a sale. This has happened several times to me. They give you this big sales pitch only to go home to see it wasn’t at all what the sales guy said or it didn’t do what was promised. I h ate when this happens. Find someone reputable.

i was visiting my sister over the last week and while we were out in hillcrest, saw this hilarious sign spinner that alerted us to the local GNC which reminded me I wanted to get a few things. when i came in i was immediately happy because there was AC and i was basically sweating from how hot i was .I came in looking for some weight loss supplements as I recently had a baby and needed some help losing the extra weight. Since neither my sister or i knew what we were looking for we decided to ask for help and thank goodness we did because i was about to buy the wrong stuff. I am not sure of the guys name that helped me but he was tall and had longer ish hair.
He showed me some multi vitamins and other all natural supplements. he was extremely helpful and nice without being pushy. I wish i lived down here cuz i would definitely return.

Omg equals this GNC. Eric who works the register is super great and super helpful. Great advice and solutions to your issues. He evens has great tips for all you long haired surfers out there. Yay let’s go work out !!! Pump iron

I came to the hillcrest GNC for super food supplements and protein to put into my morning shakes. First went to Whole Foods across the street but the prices were horrible. I had a general idea but I didn’t know exactly which items I wanted to buy. The staff at GNC was very friendly and helpful with tons of knowledge. After showing me all the different superfood powders and different protein powders, I was able to make a solid purchase that fit my needs. The sales associate that helped me directly was a shorter asian guy, but well built and in shape which is nice for a change because it’s hard to take supplement or fitness advice from someone out of shape. The best thing about my experience is that I wasn’t fed a lot of BS. He was extremely patient and nice as I had lots of questions on the different proteins like the complex whey, whey isolate, casein, etc. I was able to get all my questions answered, and feel really good about my purchase. I definitely recommend them!

I’ve been going to this GNC for years now, and almost always have a great experience. The associates are usually helpful, honest, and give recommendations consistent with what I’ve learned from trainers and from my own research. However, I’ve also had two very poor experiences there, both because of the sales associate, Stan. In addition to being condescending and rude (for example, I asked a question to clarify something I’d asked him earlier, and his response was, «I already told you that.»), he pushed very hard, intimidatingly, to get my to buy the most expensive version of what I was looking for. I would assume that he’s working on commission, but rarely, even in stores where associates are known to work on commission, are they so pushy. After the second time dealing with him, I can say that even though this is the most conveniently located GNC for me, I will not be returning.

Worst experience ever. I usually go here to get my deal of the day with no problem what’s so ever. I went inside to get the deal of the day. The associate who helped me (I think he’s name is Stan) didn’t believe my deal of the day coupon (it was a screen shot of the coupon) because he said there was fraudulent coupons circulating. But when he entered the coupon code it worked. He still asked me to pull it up online. So I did. He then honored the coupon code and then asked if there was shipping and handling involved for the online orders. I said yes. So then he charges me shipping and handling for a product that was in the store. But when charges me the shipping and handling he said it wouldn’t be labeled as shipping in handling instead it would be labeled as «DP Food.» His explanation as to why he charged shipping and handling was because the coupon price that the product was selling for was under their profit margin, therefore he was loosing out on the sale, so he has to charge shipping. He said that by selling the product to me for 19.99 they would be loosing money (BTW shipping was only 1.99)
Complete Bull crap.
Long story short I left the store, probably won’t ever come back. I called corporate office and made a compliant. Corporate office agreed that their business practice was «inconsistent» and shipping should not be charged on a product that is in the store.
They’re sending me a bunch of coupons and I was able to order my item with no shipping and handling.
I personal felt that the associate who helped me was doing something shady. What if I bought my item with shipping and handling charged, and I had to return it but the receipt says «DP Food» instead of shipping and handling?
This is the local GNC in Hillcrest, I wonder how many other people this guy or the store has ripped off?

I have been coming here for supplements for 2 and a half years. I have always had a great experience and a few of them remember my name. They are warm and inviting and know what they are talking about.

This is the best GNC store around!!! I would not go anywhere else. The workers here know everything about every ingredient in all of their products. If you want to get huge, they have the supplements you can’t find anywhere else. If you want to get ripped, they have what you need to get shredded. They always hook you up with free samples and you definitely get your money’s worth when you shop here.

Stanley is awesome. Super helpful and knowledgable about supplements and their effects. The store is tucked away but thats always a plus because its rarely super packed.

Gotta get my amino acids on! So I normally go to the Vitamin Shoppe, but there isn’t one near me so I went to this GNC to get my amino acid supplement.
I was also looking for a good fat burner to use for days I do cardio.
The guy was very knowledgeable, and presented me with several options, and then made a suggested based on my routine and history. He was listening to me, and not just trying to make a sale.
This store is very small and their selection is nowhere near as good as it is at the Vitamin Shoppe, but when you are in a bind and need something quick, this is a great local spot to hit up.

If you run out of supplements and absolutely have to have them then I guess its not a bad place to go.
Other then that I have to be honest a say the prices are very very high. They do occasionally run some sales that knock down items by %50 but that is only if you buy another item at full price.
I had to wait outside one time for like 15 minutes because the guy inside was going to the bathroom or something and couldn’t leave the front unattended.
Like I said, if you absolutely have to have your supplements that day go for it. But if you can wait and buy them on line you will save a bundle.

I had a great experience here, especially after my GNC PB experience. The guy here was knowledgeable, and honest. He talked me out of buying amino acids, because the protein powder I was buying already has enough in it. Most salespeople would keep on tacking stuff on regardless of you really need it or not. I left feeling happy and the protein he suggested is super yummy and it wasn’t ridiculously expensive either.

Very knowledgeable staff. Incredibly helpful.
