Don’t use this repair shop!!! This shop is not honest at all! The owner always tried to tell customers how honest he is, he always tried to pretend he is honest. The fact is he isn’t. His trick is posting the common maintenance (like oil change) or repair services (brake replacement) very competitive, makes you feel his shop’s prices are cheap. When you have real repairs especially internal repairs, he would RIP-​YOU-​OFF, BITE you BIG, ADD other items you cannot see or check. He pretended to only charge you $ 30 labor, but he would charge you the prices of the parts double ~ four times of actual part prices sold in the retail stores. If you don’t believe, try it and compare the part price in the receipt from G-​WIN to Amazon, parts retailers such as Autozone, or even the dealers, you can find out his tricks. Furthermore, the quality of this shop is not professional. Look at other 1 and 2 stars ratings of this shop at Unilocal,all those comments are very true. I used this shop a few times, I am totally disappointed. Recently I have a major repair for my car, I looked for and tried another shop, I am much happier with another shop’s service, quality, and most important is the much more HONEST than G-​WIN. MY honest advice is AVOID USING G-​WIN TO REPAIR YOUR CAR!

Brought my jeep there to fix my power window. They charged me $ 200, and replaced every part to the power window. Later I found it could be fixed with a $ 40 aftermarket part (another story). When I got home, I found the power door lock on the door which the window was fixed would no longer work. I brought it back, and they claimed that it was broken when I brought it in. Interesting they didnt tell me that when they gave me the oral quote. But furthermore, they claimed they told me it was broken. (so why didnt they provide an estimate to fix it?) The real kicker was they had slipped this into the bill, in small handwriting, saying the door lock was broken prior. I had to lock valuable things in the car, so I knew it wasnt broken when I brought them the car. I fixed it myself. When I took the panel off, I found the door lock control rod was bent. This happens when somebody takes the panel off without supporting it. Impossible to do this without taking the door panel off. I bent the rod back, and fixed it myself in 15 minutes. Its not often that I come across such bald faced liars as these people. I have yet to come across an honest auto repair shop.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. These guys are lying. I went in to get the brakes and rotor fix but they say my caliper is bad. I told him how is it bad and he just said «its bad» and that’s it. I said ok do the work and save me the caliper so I can see it. When I went to pick up the car, I asked about the caliper and they said they threw it away. I told them I wanted to see it. They told me already dispose of it. I went ahead and pay the $ 400 for fixing the calipers, brakes, and rotor. Later that evening I took a look at the caliper and I am absolutely sure that its the original one! It has the Honda part number on it and it looks like someone just wipe it up.

Short Description about this place: liar, trickster, rude and shameless
My window got stuck (half way to the end), then I made an appoint and drove there. After inspection (35 dollar), they asked 325 dollar to fix that problem with replacement of almost every important component below the window, and I had to leave my car there till tomorrow. When I refused because needed to go somewhere else to meet friends, I realized the window had been totally put down into the door! I ask them to move my window up, at least recover to the previous situation when I arrived. Their answer was NO! NO! NO ! Either I left my car there and paid for the 325 dollar or I drove away leaving the window totally open (for thieves??). Their excuse was the strings got stuck there and even if they turned up the window it would fall down, and their suggestion to me, if I wanted to leave, was to use some board to cover the window! What’s the hell was that and how did they turned the window down? They made the problem worse and then charge me the highest price !? And even did not want to recover the situation back before inspection !? I left there and drove to another auto repair. This other place charged me 75 dollar to do an inspection and turned the window up, and the more interesting part was: in total, if I did not have a sunk window, this other repair place would only charge me about 190 dollar in total, including inspection, regulation of the regular, replacement of a window motor, which still worked although not powerful, to fix the whole problem! I totally do not recommend anyone to go to this place to fix your car! You will get things worse and more complicated! And if you insist, read the previous 1 star Unilocal comments for this place, those are not kidding!

Most honest car repair shop in San Diego. Been bringing my cars here since 2005, never had any doubt about their recommendations.

These guys are the most honest people I know in this industry. I always bring my toyota prius for oil change here. They’re 30 – 40 $ cheaper than anywhere else I’ve got my car before. I just changed my synthetic oil and filter, did tire rotation and tire pressure check and reset the maintenance alarm light for $ 48! This would cost me over $ 100 in a dealership plus they always asked me to repair or change something unnecessary. Once I asked them to change my break pads and after checking it they said it’s fine and does not need to be changed although I gave them the permission to change it and they didn’t even charged me for that. This has never happened to me. As the first time customer you may find them not very attractive people but it’s just because they are from another country and it’s a culture difference. Now I talk and laugh with them all the time. Perfect pricing. I’ll never go back to the dealers. Highly recommended.

No hassle/​No frills type of place.
Went to get a smog check. They were fast and efficient. Total came out to $ 28.24 for the inspection and a certificate. Can’t beat that.

These guys are amazing! They do a good job and are very honest about everything. I always have a great experience when I come here to get our cars fixed. They have amazing prices and they do a clean job. Would highly recommend this mechanic shop to anyone!

i used this for my car repair and oil change for 10 years. the oil change is cheap. the service is great. most importantly, they are honest. i highly recommend it. i have not use any other stores ever since i used this one. so, please give it a try.

Very inexpensive oil change. Definitely recommend making an appointment though.
Prices are really good and I trust them not to lie to me and I’m glad they don’t try and sell me other services. He just makes recommendations and is not pushy.

I’m totally disappointed with their service. I’ve been there for a couple time. Firstly, I saw the rate 4 stars by Unilocal and they offer a great deal $ 12.99 for oil changing. They worked on my car quickly and I was so impressed. Then I just noticed that they didn’t give me a sticker which inform me the mileage number I should change motor oil next time. The second time I went there for oil changing again and I told them about the mileage sticker that they might have forgotten for the first service. They said it’s ok and they would complete it this time, but they didn’t do it again.
Moreover, after 2 weeks I got their oil changing service, my car got worse. The engine had a weird noise while I was driving. I took my car to a reliable mechanic. The result was no oil and completely dry. The mechanic mentioned that it seemed I’ve never change oil for a long time, even I just did it 2 weeks ago at G win. (I never drove long distance, just short commute for home to school 3 days a week) I was so shocked that I had been driving with this risky situation. Thanks god that nothing had happened to me. It was so terrible that those guys have done their sloppy job for my car. Don’t go there ! Even it’s so cheap, it ‘s not worth it

Great place for quick & efficient service. No BS from mechanics trying to squeeze you for $$. Prices are very good & they use quality parts. Not the most personable guys out there but for the price you can’t beat it.

I have to give them a 1-​star rating based on my two visits here.
1) First visit was in 2012, for a smog check. Even though I had an appointment, I had to wait for ~ 3 hours. Granted, it was on a weekend, but I think it should have been better because I had an appointment.
2) Next visit was in 2013, also for a smog check. I had an appointment for 12:30 pm on a Saturday. I called them twice to confirm the appointment. When I got there, though, the guy at the reception told me that I had to come back on Monday because the current backlog would not let them get to my car before closing time. That was disappointing, since I had driven over 10 miles to get to their facility.
Also, the first time I was there, I noticed that they were not too gentle with my car. Tools banging randomly on the body of the car. Front desk staff are curt and cold.

Bad experiences with G Win
1. Cheap oil change but you get what you pay and even worse
Last time they forgot to tight the skid plate for my car after oil change at $ 12.99+tax and it got loosen and scratching on the ground which is quite dangerous on high way. When I asked them to fix my patchy skid plate they just tied with some nylon cable ties and showed they did a favor for me to fix it (Express Tire made such a mistake as well earlier but they replaced a new skid plate for me).
2. Fixed the same problem twice
They fixed my water tanks by replacing it twice with a year so I got charged twice. They just explained that I’m not lucky at the tank meaning the tank quality is not good. Now there’s some water leakage again after about 1 year.
3. Fix one problem and introduced another
They fixed the engine oil gasket leakage by replacing the gaskets and what I get is 1) the oil burn smell even after 1.5 years; 2) the engine somehow consume the engine oil obviously faster — I have to refill some engine oil like one bottle b/​w oil changes for 1k miles this never happened before their fix. They just explained this is because the car is old.
4. Bad attitude and wasting your time
I went for my appointment of 4:30pm for oil change but 10 minutes late than schedule due to traffic. I called on the way to the shop and they said it’s okay to be there before 5pm. When I arrived I finished the paperwork and started waiting but at about 5:55pm they told me the worker somehow didn’t do the work and asked me to come back next day. What a waste!
5. The employee skill set is low
They changed the front brakes for me but (like the other review shows) they didn’t set the brake fluid pressure right so the brakes were always engages and the car won’t run fast. When I asked them to check they told me this is normal and you just need to keep driving. Yes, after driving for a while the friction grounded the brakes down and the car runs okay.

I’ve been going to the team at G. Win since ’92 (they’ve probably serviced 8 of our cars over the years…)
They use the cheapest oil change in town (seriously, haven’t changed their price in all the years I’ve been there) to lure you in and then wow you with their honest/​candid service.
Yes, the staff’s English is sometimes hard to understand (especially over the phone when they’re busy) but they’ve never been anything but honest and friendly.
Beware, they’re pretty busy and I usually have to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance unless it’s an emergency, in which case I just have the car towed there and come by the next day. I don’t think they’re the cheapest shop in town either (other than their oil change that is…) but I cannot stress enough how honest and forthright they are in everything that they do… no deceptions here!
Probably the only drawback again is their busyness… I’m pretty sure these folks are part of a church/​similar organization that keeps them super crowded as well.
G. Win will always be me mechanic of choice so long as I’m in SD and so shall it be for my family as well.

I used to take my old car here all the time since their price was very competitive and they are very honest. However, the quality is so so. But for an old car, i don’t care that much. A few folks from our company were their regular customers. We gave them a nick name — Cheap-​And-​Do.
I have not used them since I have moved. Recently, i called them for a quote for brake job. I was quoted $ 149 per Axel. I remember it was $ 79 before. So I did not make an appointment.
After read all the reviews on Unilocal,it seem they have jacked up the price. Do think it worth me drive all the over.

Cons: Bad customer service, tend to lie.
Hard to communicate with those guys. Especially by phone, almost impossible to understand them.
When you go there, they don’t smile, don’t try to be polite. They just look at you as you are a complete idiot.
They are lying all the time. Once i asked to change oil and asked about synthetic one. After they changed it they told me to come back to change it again in 3.000 miles. WTF?! It’s suppose to be 5 – 7 I told them, and the guy at the counter said: «yeah, but we don’t know, we don’t give warranty» and BS like it.
Recently i got check engine warning. So, I went there, they did computer check and found out that my catalytic converter need to be changed.
Ok! How much? $ 1600! WTF!!! Why is this so expensive? When the cost of the converter is only $ 300. And He answered me that we don’t work with not original parts.
I told him that it’s not his F+ing business, and the converter is certified in California.
But he refused to do anything!

Took my car in to get an oil change and to get brake pads and rotors put on. I brought my own rotors and pads. Apparently, this doesn’t sit well with the guys at G Win. They charged me $ 50 to put the brakes on but constantly reminded me «NO WARRANTY!!» and made me sign something that said «NO WARRANTY AT ALL». Well, this is probably why — They didn’t bleed my brake fluid when they put my brakes on. My brakes are spongy and almost go to the floor (a typical sign of air in the brake line).
They obviously wanted to remind me no warranty because they didn’t want to do all the work.
Then, with the oil change, I didn’t get the customary fluid top-​off and tire pressure check/​fill-​up.
This place is cheap (probably cheapest around) but I definitely feel like some corners were cut.

I have a friend who is a San Diego Native and their family has been coming here for years, so I trust her recommendation. Now I get my oil change done here routinely, they have competitive pricing (less than $ 15).
Try to book an appointment, otherwise, It can take anywhere from ½ hour to 1 hour, they get pretty busy.
