4.5… damn near a 5 Inspired by the«Best Filipino Restaurant in San Diego» I figured it was about time that I gave my review of this place. At first I was thrown off, because it shows this place as an Oriental store. Yes, they do have some grocery items here, but most people come here for the Filipino food. Flor’s is a turo-turo(point point) joint. For about $ 6($ 6.50 with pancit), you get your choice of two entrees and rice. And let me tell you people, 1 combo is probably enough to feed 2 – 3 people, depending on how big your appetite is. I love breakfast here. They have tapas(tapsilog), longonisa(longsilog), bangus, and fresh turon(fried plantain) every morning until about 10am or so. Last time my father in law was here, he started the day with some«chocolate soup,» and I’m not talking about chomparrodo people. Not a morning person, well they also have all of your Filipino favorites for lunch/dinner. There is no set menu, but on any given day you can expect to find adobo, pinakbet, kare kare, sinigang, sisig, lumpia, etc. In the mornings they’re typically cooking bbq, along with tupig(sp.). The place only stays open until 7pm, and it’s basically first come first serve, so if you happen to get there kinda late, and they’re out of something, chances are they’re done for the nite. They do cater events, so if you want a big pan of lumpia, turon, or whatever, just call ahead. My wife and I love this place because it’s about 5 minutes from us. Even if it wasn’t, we would be hitting this place up. Cheap, filling combos, and some of the best Filipino food I’ve had in San Diego(for real, my mom was digging their kare kare) you gotta check this joint out. Insiders tip– you pretty much leave this place smelling of Filipino food, so if you’re wondering whether to shower before or after you visit this place– wait til after. Enjoy!
